  5. I am planning to go to DC for a pleasure sight-seeing trip in early October. I would appreciate any suggestions on where to bid in the DC metro area that would provide the best value but also be in a safe area and close to the subway system. We are not planning to rent a car and would like to use the subway system to get around (don't know if that is realistic--I haven't been to DC since Nixon was in office). Any help would be appreciated.

  9. I finally landed a resort from Oct 14-22. I started a low-ball bid of $75 at Wailea; added Lahaina and bid $85, added Kihei and bid $90. All these were refused. I then added the airport region (I forget the name) and bid $95 which was accepted by the Marriott Resort at Wailea I did use the PRICELINE link on this forum. Many thanks to all who posted their results on BB. Room Cost (avg. per room, per night): $95.00 (USD) Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 8 Room Subtotal: $760.00 (USD) Taxes and Fees: $115.92 (USD) Total Room Cost: $875.92 (USD)
  10. I have had airline tickets to Maui on Oct 14th for about a month now. So that has given me some time to make some low-ball bids. Having seen the lowest price over the summer to be $93 I started at $85 and inched up to as high as $97 with no success. Recently I noticed someone won the Wailea Marriott for $75 so now I have been starting there and gone up in $5 increments by rebidding the other three zones (2 of which do not have resorts). I still have some time to inch my way up from there since I won't be arriving for over two weeks. Where does October fit in as far as "peak" or "slow" season in Maui is concerned? Does anyone know?
  11. If you stay under a $120 bid, the liklihood (from information available on this site) is that you can rebid the Lahaina(sp?) zone too. I have not seen a resort go for less than $120 in that zone. They usually go for $140-$150. Correct me if I am wrong.
  12. That is by far the lowest price I have seen that resort go for. Did you bid just days before your trip? I have been bidding in the mid 90's for a mid-October stay, but still no luck.
  13. Does anyone have any insight into the PL counter-offer; specifically when you bid and the bid is rejected, but PL makes a counteroffer? For example: You bid $65. PL rejects your offer, but says encourages you to increase your bid $17 to "win" a hotel. I have never gone for this. I always feel that I must be close to what they will take (slightly above $65 in this case) so they are trying to maximize their profit by trying to get me to bite on a price that is well above their winning threshold. Any thoughts?
  14. Got a convertible on my first try at $25. Used PRICELINE link on this forum. Total Rental Days: 8 days Subtotal: $200.00 Taxes and Fees: $76.40 Total Charges: $276.40 Lowest Published Price: $471.74
  15. I am sorry. The actual dates of this hotel are Nov 24-26. I did not see how I could edit my post. :)
  16. Seeing on this forum that this hotel was reserved at $50 on the first try, I thought I would try $45. Got it on first try as well. 2 nights: $90 + $17.95 taxes and fees Total $107.95
