  1. I did some extensive Trip Advisor research before booking this and felt fairly confident this is the hotel I would get. It gets good reviews and is close to subway stops AND is guaranteed for 4 guests! The best rate on their site is $379 for this stay!!
  2. Oh, and it also lists a 4.5/5 Trip Advisor rating with 80+ reviews...the latest in August 08.
  3. September 3-5, 4 adults. 3 Star Hotel in Midtown South for $188. Fitness, Business, Restaurant, Hi-Speed Internet. Any thoughts?
  4. I'm not one of the experts, but that hotel came up for my dates (3 days before yours) so I took a stab at it. I think it actually might be the Paramount. This hotel used to come up as a 3 star and according to the $225 listing for your dates, it has 920+ Trip Advisor reviews with the latest being in August (which the Paramount does). The Crowne Plaza only has 295 reviews. Hope this helps!
  5. First bid of $40 rejected. Added free rebid and bid $45.
  6. Amenities: Breakfast, Fitness, Pool, Laundry I'm pleased. Free hot breakfast and very close to 2 T Stations with parking facilities. I just bid up to $60 on Priceline for this area with no results.
  7. Thanks for all your opinions. We're 4 adults and will be in the city from Sep 3-6. I was thinking of risking it anyway as I'm not keen on paying 200-300 for a room on HOTWIRE, but I guess that's still cheaper than 2 priceline rooms...
  8. I apologize if this is addressed somewhere else, but I heard somewhere that there are some possible hotels in every zone in NYC that simply do not have double rooms. I understand I'm not guaranteed a double with any hotel on Priceline, but is it extra risky to bid for 1 room in NYC? Thanks for your help!
  9. I started at $75 and used multiple rebids for both Union Square East and West. I could have split my bid and saved a little money, but we really wanted to stay in the same hotel all 3 nights.
  10. Not especially excited about this one, just wanted a cheap stay on the way back from Yosemite.
  11. Your Offer Price: $50.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 1 Subtotal: $50.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $14.81 Total Charges: $64.81 Started bidding in Airport zone at $35 for a 3*. Added approximately $3 per rebid. Was offered a $13 counteroffer at $45. Increased my bid by $1 increments until $50 was accepted. Thanks again for all the help on this site! I have started using the SavingsBarn link for my bidding now. :)
  12. This was my first bid in the 2* range after trying up to $45 for a 3*. Your Offer Price: $30.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 1 Subtotal: $30.00 Taxes and Service Fees: $11.96 Total Charges: $41.96
  13. Bidding for 3* 10/18 - 10/20 Having already placed these rejected bids: Crystal City (CC): 60 CC + Convention Center/Capitol Hill (CCCH): 65 CC + Dupont/Woodley Park (DWP): 70 CC + White House/Downtown (WHDT): 75 CC + WHDT + CCCH: 80 CC + CCCH + DWP: 85 CC + DWP + WHDT: 90 We tried again with an increased limit and won: Crystal City+ Springfield: 100 Crystal City + Springfield + White House/Downtown: 110 Crystal City + Springfield + Convention Center: 120 Taxes/Fees: 42.80 Total: 282.80 Read on for my pity party.....I guess I just want to make myself feel better for these higher than usual prices! :) This is the series of bids that we won with (finally) after bidding almost every possible option for a 2.5* - 4* in Arlington, Crystal City, DC downtown areas, Maryland suburbs and even BWI Airport! We bid as much as $160 for a downtown hotel, and up to $90 in the Maryland suburbs (before we decided that the hassle of transportation into town would probably outweigh any savings in those zones). I will say that I did extensive research for those dates and ONLY 2 known priceline hotels (2.5* - 4*) in ANY of the downtown DC zones had availability for both nights, 2 Arlington hotels, and 2 Crystal City hotels, with prices through the roof! The cheapest hotwire rooms for our dates were $190. Needless to say we upped our budget for this trip, but both of our hotels have great reviews, and are very convenient to everything we wanted! Thanks again for all your help.
  14. Bid 3* 10/20-22: White House/Downtown (WHDT): 70 Convention Center/Capitol Hill (CCCH):70 Dupont /Woodley Park (DWP): 70 DWP + WHDT: 80 WHDT + CCCH: 85 WHDT + CCCH + DWP: 90, Accepted Taxes/Fees: 33.82 Total Charges: 213.82 Thanks for the help!
  15. All of the following bids were just rejected for 2.5* October 19 - 22 :) Crystal City (CC): 60 CC + Convention Center/Capitol Hill (CCCH): 65 CC + Dupont/Woodley Park (DWP): 70 CC + White House/Downtown (WHDT): 75 CC + WHDT + CCCH: 80 CC + CCCH + DWP: 85 CC + DWP + WHDT: 90 As you can see, I was targeting Crystal City with this assault, but to no avail! I suppose I'll try a similar approach with the Arlington and perhaps Silver Spring zones, but I'm not too optimistic. Perhaps we'll change our destination as it seems we've chosen a bad week. :)
  16. Thanks for the advice! I think I'm going to add Crystal City and Arlington to my bidding options. I also read that Silver Spring is a good place to stay because of access to the metro. Would you agree, Travelguy? I REALLY appreciate it!
  17. After more research, we also decided that we'd be wasting bids at $70 or less. We used your strategy, but started at $75 and went to $90. No luck in any of these areas. Are there other areas we could try that would still put us close to transportation into the city? Any help is appreciated!
  18. Price and location are most important. We are willing to stay in other areas as long as they have good access to the metro and downtown. Thanks for your help!
  19. Sorry for not following up. We did not end up going to NYC on this trip, but have postponed it until Summer '06.
  20. My husband and I found a great flight price, and are planning to go on these dates if we can get a good hotel deal as well! We would like a 2.5* or 3* hotel for these dates. We are willing to split our stay if necessary. This would be our first trip to DC, so we need to stay in a zone with good metro access. We prefer Dupont Circle, Convention/Capitol Hill, or White House/Downtown. We would like to keep it at $70 or below if possible. Any suggestions?
  21. Radisson Hotel First bid accepted. Should have tried a lower one! :)
  22. Needing more advice on our summer NY trip: We've actually decided to change our dates to May 28 - June 2 for the NYC part of our trip and are thinking of renting a car and driving across the state to see Niagara Falls June 2 - 4 as it doesn't cost any more for us to split our air ticket from mem to ewr and then from buffalo back to mem. After reading so much great stuff about the famous Hyatt in Jersey City and the low priceline rate possibilities for it, I was wondering what you think of our chances of getting the Hyatt (OR another 3* Jersey City property ) for $60 or less for those dates. Hotwire has the 3.5* property believed to be the Hyatt for $108 for those dates already, but the Hyatt website says $274, so I figure it will be awhile before they release any really low prices to Priceline. (I already tried a $38 bid just for fun). Any insights into a plan would be helpful! Oh, and if anyone knows of any scenice routes between jersey city and niagara falls, let me know! We'd like to take in as much scenery of New York State as we can during that drive. Thanks a lot!
  23. My first bid was $35 for 3* Memphis (East). It was rejected, so I added Memphis (Cordova) and bid $37, which was accepted. And I do consider this practice for NY! :) Speaking of that...could I ask a question? We've actually decided to change our dates to May 28 - June 2 for the NYC part of our trip and are thinking of renting a car and driving across the state to see Niagara Falls June 2 - 4 as it doesn't cost any more for us to split our air ticket from mem to ewr and then from buffalo back to mem....after reading so much great stuff about the famous Hyatt in Jersey City and the low priceline rate possibilities for it, I was wondering what you think of our chances of getting the Hyatt (OR another 3* Jersey City property :) ) for $60 or less for those dates.
