Bid $125 which was refused - they countered with an offer to increase my bid by $21 to $146. I declined and went back and added Northwest (which does not have any 5-star properties) and increased my bid by $10 and won the hotel I set out for. (Westin/Starwood website is showing €220 as entry level price for same date). Used BB PRICELINE link to initiate bid.

Last time I stayed here( which was a week ago with a purchase through Hotwire) they upgraded me to a junior suite. I'm planning on requesting the same room on this next visit.

I've had great luck using PRICELINE over the years. I totally disagree with you about "I suspect hotels give the smallest rooms with no views to guests booking via an opaque booking website like" since I regularly contact the hotel that I've booked through PRICELINE to arrange for various requests and have always been more than pleased with the room I've received. That being said, perhaps I'm more than accepting since I regularly win rooms in NYC for $75 to $90 in 4 or 5 star properties.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I have the Maritime Hotel booked as back-up. And you are correct, many hotels are requiring a 3-night minimum for this date. Also many hotels are currently sold-out that entire weekend. I'm hoping some of those reservations are dreamers and they'll be canceling on Thursday the 27th so as to avoid no-show penalty, which would them potentially open up a bunch of last minute rooms. (I guess I can be a dreamer too!)

Never really got an answer to this question. Does anyone have any historical experience for this date? I've been looking at prices (HOTWIRE) for the past month and have tried several times PRICELINE bidding (using BB link) w/o success. Looking for CPS/Chelsea/D-FD/ESB/KH/MSG/ME/MW/TS-TD...trying for 3* with max bid of $150. Does anyone have any thoughts on if this might actually happen for me bidding on the 26th or 27th? Right now I'm holding a res (through hotel website) for $250 at a Chelsea property. thanks!

I've been bidding max of $200 for 3*, CPS/CH/DFD/ESB/HK/MSG/ME/MW/TS - all have been rejected. Need only that one night 12/29

Have been bidding for a few weeks now for 12/29, one night, NYC (most areas except UES UWS and wall st)- my high bid is $200 - all rejects. looking for 3* or higher. Any thoughts on how i might do if i simply wait until a day or two after Christmas to do this? Any thoughts/experience with last minute inventory for this date? Thanks in advance!

I have only good things to say about the New Yorker Hotel. I had a corner room, paid about $100/nt on PRICELINE, it was impressive.

I had a great stay at this hotel back in August of this year. I loved the room and amenities and would stay here again without question!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but this hotel is a real crapper. I had problems booking a room in NYC last December, 2008, around the same period that you are staying in NYC, and ended up with this hotel. Upon checking-in and being taken up to my room, I immediately tried to check-out and arrange a refund. No such luck. Repeated emails to Priceline were useless. This place is like the old Hotel Taft or the Abby Victoria...both of which were torn down, as this place should be. Sorry.
