  1. i would most likely try to bid higher than that being that october is really expensive in vegas.
  2. Got it on my third bid first bid was 52$ and got the increase by 15$ to have another chance which i obviously declined. try 53$ the second time and 55 $ got me the win. Once again, i used your PRICELINE link to make my purchase.
  3. Gatineau man, i think that there is 1* hotel in the sherbrooke are having lived there for 5 years. i wouldn't risk betting for one if i were you. Moreover, while PRICELINE retail page might not have a 1* star listing, it doesn't mean that they don't have one in their name their own price page.
  4. i don't think they would overbook kicking priceline customer out as priceline customer already paid in full for the room. i've been using priceline to get hotel room for a convention an even though both hotel were fully booked when i came in, i always received a room without incident.
  5. got the mariott residence inn for 47$ on my second bid. Previous bid was 45$. Was bidding for 2 1/2* but got a 3*, sure won't complain about that!!! i used your PRICELINE link for my purchase
  6. Well selecting more than one room could lead to higher price as some hotels would want more customers paying rack rate than priceline rate. Just an educated guess though.
  7. you can always call later as well to have somebody else answer the phone. You can also become a kimpton in touch member, which usually lead to them being a little more generous towards you. For example, when you're an in touch member, you receive free wi-fi internet in your room, a rarity for 4 * hotel (the free part at least).
  8. you can continue to bid as long as there is zones and star level that fits your criteria. Just be really careful when re-bidding and read the FAQ carefully. Going down a star level when changing zones is especially dangerous as it usually open up the possibilities of winning an hotel in a zone that you do not want.
  9. Just made this bid and won the downtown sheraton for 65$. i was quite surprised to get it at this price given how far in advance i am and that august is still considered high touristy season. can't say i'm disappointed though. used your PRICELINE link to make my purchase
  10. i wouldn't recommend walking outside at night alone in the area. it's pretty far off from all the action. As you have, a car, i don't think it will be an issue but just so you know.
  11. personnaly, i consider the stratosphere a step down from the imperial palace, but if you're happy with it. You should know that the stratosphere is far away from pretty much everything and the area around it is pretty seedy.
  12. I'm pretty sure that fee for booking a room is a flat fee as well as the taxes. So you're percentage that you see only depends on the amount that you bid. If you bid 300$ for a room, the total fee percentage would be most likely closer to the taxes of the region you're bidding in.
  13. thre is a huge convention that i am attending happening this week-end. i won a 3* in NMA zone for 120$. that should give you an idea of the range to bid and even that might not be enough as the cheapest room on HOTWIRE for what could be considered ''Downtown'' is showing at 239$. So if you can move your date, i think i would as the week-end after seems to go a lot cheaper. If you can't, be prepared to pay what is usually the rack rate for chicago and even a little bit more than that.
  14. I think i might be able to help you with your plans for ottawa as i've been residing there for a year and a half now. I,ll just need some more information though. Are you-meeting people all over town or only from the government? are you also interested in any attractions while you're there? Are you going to use PRICELINE or HOTWIRE to book your hotel? What is your budget per night for your stay?
  15. did you try calling the resort yourself ans ask them? They probably know more than people on this board. From what i've heard, everytime you book a resort, resort fee are an extra that you'Re going to have to pay once you're there. It usually varies between 15 to 25$ per night.
  16. there's a 3.5* in the NMA region on HOTWIRE showing up at 79$, might be worth a look. And if you'Re willing to go to around 100$ before taxes, then you might not have that much problem as rates on HOTWIRE for your zone seems to be around that range for a 4* hotel.
  17. as far as i can see on priceline, the hotwire zone would be included in their downtown denver zone. now, that zone extends all the way to the greater downtown area area of hotwire. So if you're ocnfortable getting an hotel in those two zones, then you can use both site. otherwise, stick with HOTWIRE.
  18. just be careful with the insurance as i don't think it's a cancellation insurance per se, as it has several conditions. it can cancel your reservations only if they deem your reason good enough to cancel. so, let's say you change your mind about the hotel and want to cancel it afterwards, priceline will most likely not refund you unless it's for something like a medical emergency for example. I'm not completely sure on this but i'm certain other members of the board will be able to help a little more with this.
  19. they have different promo codes at smartervegas.com. maybe it could help you find an hotel at an acceptable price in your dates.
  20. if there is good avaibality, i don't see why you shouldn't be able to do bidding for an hotel room the same day. i heard people making bidding in the hotel parking lot before coming in!!!
  21. looked at the Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins for those dates. There is a huge convention going on at the same time (which i'm attending) and all room are fully booked. Just to give you an example, i paid my room 120$ a night for 3 star in NMA. As this moment, hotwire is showing a 3 star in NMA water tower for 139$/night for your date. i would highly doubt you will be able to get an hotel room in the zones you want for less than 100$
  22. PRICELINE crashed on me once saying that it was unable to reach the website. It was on their own end though and they gave me bonus money for a car rental for my inconvenience.
  23. i once got a change fee also since i mistakedly book an hotel for the wrong date ( i booked 1 month earlier that i was really going to go). I explained the situation to the agent and by being very polite (an i'm ashamed to say this but i made up a story as well), they changed it to a nominal fee of 25$. So there is always a way to negociate with them. Remember to be polite and that they want to have returning customers, so satisfying them is paramount.
  24. Just to tell you that i successfully bid on 4* hotel monaco (chicago loop) oct 21-23 for 100$/night I used your PRICELINE link for my bidding
