  1. Good point, lightrules. The extra parking fees are part of why I was thinking that even a small savings below the $251 would be nice! Although it looked to me like the parking was $16 (self-park) or $20 (valet) per day, not $30 (http://maui.hyatt.com/en/hotel/our-hotel/parking.html) -- I suppose with tax that it will end up costing a bit more. Did you mean the resort fee? That was included in the $660 final cost. Wherever you end up staying, I'm sure you will have a wonderful time!
  2. Thanks! I thought it would probably be the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa , which looks lovely. I booked it this morning and am sure we will have a wonderful time! With a room cost of $251 per night, taxes of $98, and the resort fee total of $60, the final cost is $660, which Priceline reports is a 23% savings. Thanks again for the advice!
  3. Hi there, With the help of this board, I have successfully bid a couple times the past, though it's been awhile. Now I am trying to secure a 4* in the Kaanapali - Lahaina area of Maui for two nights, January 26 & 27. There is a PRICELINE EXPRESS Deal for this period that is $251/night that looks good, but I thought I'd try to save a little more money if possible. I started trying to bid last night using the two rebidding zones (Kahului & Kihei). I started at $185 and went up to $190 and $200 with the rebids. I then closed out the Internet, reopened, and went back to Priceline. I was able to submit bids ($210, $215, and $220) but each time got the message that the "bid could not be accepted for $X at this time" message -- so it seems like it was letting me bid again without waiting the delay period, right? Or perhaps I misunderstand the system and that message appears if someone is trying to bid before the wait time is up. Tonight I picked up where I left off and am up to $245 and nothing has been accepted. My questions are: -Is it possible that NYOP does not have a price lower than the Express deal? -Any advice on strategy? Thanks much. PS. I have been clicking the board's links.
  4. Hey all, Wanted to share my most recent bidding experience. I'm going to Monterey on Saturday for one night. Ultimately, my bid of $83 for the night was accepted by the Hyatt Regency Monterey Hotel and Spa. Here is the bid history: Monterey 4* - $70 Monterey + Marina 4* - $75 Monterey + Marina + Pacific Grove 4* - $80 Monterey + Marina + Pacific Grove + Salinas 4* - $83 - accepted I had one more re-bid. In retrospect, perhaps I should have bid up more slowly, but I was eager to secure a place tonight. I think I only would have saved a few $ so I'm okay with it. Glad to see that the Hyatt Regency has free self-parking. With tax, it came out to $100, which was right in my budget :) Thanks!
  5. I followed that strategy exactly and with my...6th re-bid I landed the Marriott San Diego Gaslamp Quarter (listed as a 4*) for $75 per night. Thanks to everyone for the help! I obviously could not have done it without this board. We will be right near Petco Park. Valet parking is $30/night, which is more than most of the hotels I checked out in the area, so I'm especially glad to have not gone to my maximum price! So, to copy the proper format: 4* San Diego (Downtown-Harbor Island) Marriott San Diego Gaslamp Quarter - $75
  6. Woo-hoo, I'm sort of learning! I would like the least expensive 3.5* or higher in Downtown Harbor-Island or Coastal zone.
  7. Thanks for the help! I can't say how much I appreciate the assistance. Eight re-bid options for 3.5*: -El Cajon -Escondido -La Mesa -Miramar -National City -Point Loma -San Yssidro -Sorrento Mesa It also seems like there are four options for rebidding for exclusively a 4* because these zones do not list 4* properties (if I am figuring this out correctly): -Del Mar -Mission Valley -North County Coastal -Rancho Bernardo I could also try rebidding with the eight areas listed above for a 4*, correct?
  8. Follow-up after reading the Re-bidding Tips for the 4th or 5th time... So I searched on Priceline's retail part of the site in different areas of San Diego by looking only in a specific area and viewing the hotels by star rating. In the very least, the Mission Valley area and North County Inland seem to only go up to 3.5*. So I can start bidding for a 4* in the Downtown Harbor and Coastal. If I am still unsuccessful, I would then add Mission Valley as an acceptable area but keep only bidding for 4*. That way, I can bid again. My question: does the Bidding part of the site draw from the exact same list of hotels? Is it possible that there could be other properties on the list that are rated at 4*? I'm sorry to be so bothersome! Everything is so clearly laid out in the posts here, I feel like I should be understanding this much better.
  9. Thanks for the replies. I have read that Re-Bidding tips and am still a bit confused. The idea is that I can add another area that doesn't have 4* hotels in order to re-bid before the 24 hours is up? Still not completely clear on it. I don't know why I am having so much trouble understanding this! :) I am willing to accept both the Coast and Downtown-Harbor Island. Since there are more options in the Downtown-Harbor Island area, I suppose it's better to start there. I would like to get the least expensive 3.5* or better for my trip. Would it make more sense to start bidding for a 4* in the Downtown area and then add the Coast with a slightly higher bid. If that gets rejected again, add the 3.5* and drop the price a bit? Or maybe I should then start over with a new bid and start with the 3.5* in Downtown and if that is rejected add the Coast and up my bid? That way I could get two bids for the 3.5*?
  10. Priceline/Hotwire newbie here, hoping to get some advice if possible! I am going to San Diego 8/13-8/16. I have been trying to follow the results posted on this forum and have been reading the tips posted here. Today I started the bidding process (exciting!) but wasn't successful. I started with a bid for a 4* hotel in the San Diego Coastal area for $70. That was rejected so I added the San Diego & Harbor Island area and raised my bid to $75. Again, rejected. I then added the 3.5* level and put in a bid of $70. Again, rejected. I guess I shouldn't have bid so low in the beginning. When the 24 hours are up, I'll bid higher. Any suggestions for how much to bid? I've read the tips on how to bid a few times through and must admit I'm still feeling rather clueless. I am hoping to not spend more than about $85 per night. I appreciate any help that can be given!
