  1. Thanks, Romelle- I had searched but just thought it was interesting to see so few considering what a popular spot Victoria is.
  2. Just started looking at a possible overnight to Victoria end of this month and am surprised to see so little activity for Victoria. I am curious if anyone has an idea why.
  3. I have been bidding off and on for a 4*, starting very low $60-90, realizing the Rose Festival is in full swing starting Friday. Considering there are 10 4* hotels listed, I figured I might get lucky. Might have if I had hung in there but I tend to get a bit nervous as the vacation nears. So- changed my bid to 3.5* this morning and immediately got the Marriott for $80. I am satisfied and very much looking forward to our one night in Portland as we head to the coast.
  4. Stayed at the Bedford Courtyard by Marriott 4/28/12 after getting it on a 3* $55 bid. I was a little apprehensive since it is an older property right on the Airport Freeway (which is in the midst of major construction). We were pleasantly surprised. The front desk staff was helpful (provided a king room, no problem) and cheerful. The room was clean and roomy with an in-room fridge. The bathroom was a little dated but clean and the shower was tall and water pressure was good. I was amazed at how dark the room stayed in the morning and that we didn't hear much highway noise. Not our preferred Hyatt Suites (Hurst) for a bid in this area but we were quite content and will be happy to stay there again.
  5. After trying several different bids for downtown Fort Worth and not getting anything for $80 or less (our limit), went with our regular back-up plan which is Hurst-Euless-Bedford. Why Priceline attaches this to Dallas is anyone's guess. Hoping for our favorite Hyatt Place in Hurst, I bid $55 and got the Courtyard in Bedford. It's not a bad place either so am quite happy. Our event is at Cowboy Stadium so it is a straight shot down 157. I used the PRICELINE link here on betterbidding. I will post a review next week.
  6. I have been bidding off and on for the past month or two, just seeing what might slip through the cracks. Been trying anything from $60-80. Finally today, upped my bid to $85, 4*, Downtown-Pike Place and voila! Got the Edgewater. We will be close to Safeco for a Tuesday ballgame and Pier 67 and the market for plenty of seafood. We haven't been to Seattle in a long time so are quite excited to be right where we wanted to be for hotel.
  7. Got this great property (have stayed there before- hard to beat the location)on the first bid- $60!Has several bars/restaurants and a heated outdoor pool. Plus checkout is at noon so plenty of time to enjoy our stay. Used the betterbidding link to PRICELINE.
  8. When we lived in the area, we watched this Holiday Inn go through many changes, including a total refurb. So it was with some concern that I got this hotel for my $40 Priceline bid. We had Game 2 ACLS Ranger/Tampa Bay tickets and bid the day before. Arrived right at 3PM check in and it was obvious that the hotel was full of Texas AM/Arkansas fans (game that day) as well as many Dallas Cowboy fans (Sunday game). Check in was very smooth- only glitch was we had to take a smoking room (hadn't done that in many a year). Turned out not to really bother us- DH said he had to turn his pillow over during the night because he started smelling the smoke-that was about it. Could smell a slightly smoky aroma in the 3rd floor hallway the next morning but not awful, just there. Hotel is a typical Holiday Inn except they actually have a restaurant/bar but no free breakfast. Not a big deal for us since we are mainly about coffee in the room but could be a problem for folks with kids. Construction on Hwy 183 (Airport Fwy) is massive and on-going but we know the area so getting on Hwy 157/Industrial Blvd (straight shot to Arlington) was not too difficult. Despite being jammed packed with sports fans, it was fairly quiet. Nice king bed, very basic bathroom with older shower/tub and small sink area in the same bathroom. It had also been awhile since I stayed in a room that didn't automatically have a microwave- we didn't need on, there are rooms in the hotel that have them- but again, folks with kids could be surprised. This would not be my first choice in the area- the refurb didn't chage the actually size/design of the rooms but it was plesant enough for last minute accomodations.
  9. Needed a last minute deal since we had tickets to Game 2 of the ALDS Rangers/Tampa Bay play offs. Logged on Friday afternoon, bid $40 for Dallas (Hurst - Euless - Bedford)- always hoping to get the Hyatt Place in Hurst as we have before. Ah, well, luck ran out- got the refurbished Holiday Inn Bedford but who can complain for last minute, $40 first bid! I'll post a review. Room Cost (avg. per room, per night): $40.00 (USD) Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Guests Per Room: 2 Number of Nights: 1 Room Subtotal: $40.00 (USD) Taxes and Fees: $12.84 (USD) Total Room Cost: $52.84 (USD)
  10. Originally, we were bidding on Priceline for a Round Rock 3* but eventually got this hotel (actually in Pflugerville) for $54 a night on Hotwire. Close enough! It is a refurb Quality Inn and on the highway so I was immediately a little concerned. Turned out to be fine. The rooms are nicely done with a separate living/mini-kitchen area and a typcial HIE bathroom (good shower/tub) with sink out in the bedroom area. Bed was quite comfortable, plenty of pillows, blanket, not comforter. The location is a typical busy I-35/feeder road intersection- there's a chicken/BBQ place doing lots of business next door but we didn't get a chance to try it. The morning breakfast was actually quite good as those things go- pre-cooked cheese omlettes, sausage, grave, biscuits, cereal, bread goods, etc. Check in/check out was smooth and friendly. DH loved the larger screen TV's in both living and bedroom areas. My only real complaints were how loud the cleaning/maintenance staff was out in the hallways before 9AM (I wasn't asleep but if I had been trying to sleep, it would have been difficult) and the old AC unit that cycles off and on all night- very noisy! Overall, I wouldn't pick this area or hotel just because there are better locations/newer hotels but I wouldn't have a problem staying there again if I needed to.
  11. Bid $40 for the Hurst-Euless-Bedford area (HEB)- got it for $40 first bid. I had always gotten the Hyatt Suites in Hurst when bidding 3 star in this area but knew several hotels had been added recently. We had tickets to the Texas Rangers playoff game so were ready to take whatever we got. Holdiay Inn Bedford was OK for location, really busy with Texas A&M and Dallas Cowboy fans all over the place. Room Cost (avg. per room, per night): $40.00 (USD) Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Guests Per Room: 2 Number of Nights: 1 Room Subtotal: $40.00 (USD) Taxes and Fees: $12.84 (USD) Total Room Cost: $52.84 (USD Check in: October 1, 2011 3PM Check out: October 2, 2011 12 noon
  12. The dates were Sept 29- Oct 1. The amenities were complimentary breakfast, fitness center, pool, laundry facility and close to tennis.
  13. Had been trying for a couple of weeks to get as good a deal on Priceline as we had before in Round Rock but no go. Had also been watching Hotwire fluctuate from $52-$56 for a 3*. Finally just took it at $54. Little farther south than I would prefer but you just never know. I'll post a review when we get back
  14. That's quite a good deal, especially for ACL. Congrats and have fun!
  15. We got this hotel on our first bid- $45. Considering everything in Georgetown was booked for Red Poppy Days, Round Rock was a bargain and close enough. It was cool to have a relaxing bar in a Holiday Inn. The room was fairly standard HI- never enough light for me but perfectly comfortable for a one night stay. If we were staying longer, we would have gone to the pool- no time. The area around the hotel has several restaurants- one locally owned cafe across the street; a Chuys and Cracker Barrel within walking distance. Close to the highway but set back from the access road so that road noise is not a problem. All of the staff were helpful and up-beat. We would stay there again.
  16. Just got the downtown Houston Hyatt for $75, 9/9/10. First time I bid $60 then it gave me a one-time option to bid $75 (without having to wait 24 hours)- then I got it. Hadn't ever seen that happen before. Will post a review when I get back.
  17. Another one to consider, although it seems very out of the way, is the Hyatt Place listed under Dallas (Hurst-Euless-Bedford) in Hurst. I used to live near there and stayed twice recently, last time with a $35 bid. If you scroll through the recent posts, you will find it with several replies indicating people are getting it consistently for $35. It is around 11 miles away and can easily be reached by cab. We actually used a car service in June and that worked out really well. The suggestion to stay in Dallas is also a good one since most of the hotels in the Arlington-Grand Prarie area will be booked by now for the concert. Good luck!
  18. What a great deal! I just made a reservation at the $35 rate. We stayed here last month and really like this hotel. I had never had the nerve to use Priceline before but will do so more often in future.
