  1. Well, it is the Aston Maui Lu, but I will spend more...

Is there a particular part of Maui you want to stay in or are you open to any? I personally would avoid the Aston Lu, its a very dated property with semi poor reviews. Have you checked vrbo.com in the Kihei area for a backup, there are some condos that are close to your price range. Keep in mind that if your budget is all in at $150/nt, you'll need to factor in a resort fee for just about anything you win on Priceline for Maui.

  2. Thanks for the info on waiting till the last minute to get your successful bid last year. Sounds like you are saying that they accepted your $120 on your first bid. I haven't stayed in the Makena Resort, but it seems to get good reviews, especially after their recent remodel. From reading about it, it now seems on par with at least a 4 star. It just seems that its a very quiet secluded place, but that goes for most of Wailea anyway.

  3. I'm going to be staying in Maui just a few days before you and have been monitoring Wailea and haven't seen low winning bids come through in a long time. A couple years ago you would frequently find the Marriott go for under $100, but that was mostly during off peak times. Mid to late March is peak tourist time on Maui, so I'm anticipating having difficulty getting a resort for under $150/nt. I've tried recently like you with no success and will probably hold off and try again in February and possibly use the 3.5 Makena Resort as a backup or grab a condo on HOTWIRE.

  4. I've been looking at staying here in March, but would only do so if I could get a priceline win for under $130. Did you think about trying to book directly with them, they are running a promo for $199 during that period that comes with no resort fee ($25) and daily breakfast buffet for two ($60). This basically reduces their daily rate down under $120. http://www.makenaresortmaui.com/Accommodations/Packages-Offers.asp?LangID=25&action=saved&xid=7#Fallinto12

  5. Just out of curiosity, would you be willing to stay in a 3.5 in Wailea/Makena? The Makena Beach Resort has newly remodeled rooms that are easily on par with a 4 star and I've seen it go recently for as low as $130/nt on priceline. Here is their current site promotion for the period you are looking, http://www.makenaresortmaui.com/Accommodations/Packages-Offers.asp#HolidayPromo Its just a thought since it appears the resorts seems to be booked out for your period.

  6. Needed one night off the strip for Sat July 18 and got the Fiesta in Henderson for $42. The strip pricing for this weekend was double the usual so decided to stay off the strip close to friends. Fiesta is a Station casino so its decent and fun. It's probably closer to a 2.5 rating, but for the price I was happy. Only thing that was annoying is that they charged an $11/day resort/service fee. I wouldn't mind paying this for a 5 star on the strip, but not for an average hotel off the strip.

  7. Yeah I was considering the South Point at that rate. I'm mainly going for the NBA summer league at UNLV, which is just east of the strip, so I figured a hotel east of the strip should be close to the University. I've mostly used Priceline in the past, so I'm unfamiliar if Hotwire's rates stay consistent up until the arrival date or if they drop as it gets closer to the arrival if the property still has plenty of room. Maybe I'll just take a chance on this 3 star and see what property it is. Have you ever been able to identify it based on the tripadvisor rating and number of reviews? I tried and I can't seem to find a property that matches what hotwire lists.
