  1. I'm a bit late with this as I booked and stayed here a few weeks ago so I don't think the price is relevant (it was $68), but the identification is new. Amenities: breakfast, fitness, pool. It's a plain motel, but acceptable. You can get it cheaper on Priceline. I used the HOTWIRE search box here to start the booking.
  2. Believe it or not, I actually wanted this hotel (because it is close to where I need to be), though the other 4* hotels in Westminster would have been ok. The NH website has a nonrefundable rate averaging 85.63 pounds for these three nights, plus VAT, or about $145/night all in. PRICELINE's regular site has it at $208/night all in. I bid $80 and received a counteroffer of $22 more. Waited a day and bid $85 and was successful. I used the PRICELINE applet at the top of page here to start my bid. BTW. This hotel appears twice in the London hotels list under variant names. The one here is correct.
  3. Note this is now 3.5* (formerly 3*). Amenities: Fitness, Business, Internet, Restaurant So, now indistinguishable from the Sheraton Heathrow, which is what I thought I was going to get. Crucially, this is not on one of the free bus routes: you have to use the slow, expensive, infrequent "Hoppa" H1. Booked through your HOTWIRE link.
  4. Amenities: Shuttle, Fitness, Pool, Restaurant, Business Started the bid through your HOTWIRE link.

This has become the Hilton Garden Inn.
  6. In the interests of research I booked all 3 downtown St Paul Hotels. PAUL-RIVERFRONT 11 East Kellogg Boulevard Saint Paul, Minnesota 55101 (651) 292-1900
  7. In the interests of research I booked all 3 downtown St Paul Hotels. I used the HOTWIRE applet at the top of your page. 2.5*, facilities: pool restaurant laundry internet $94 plus $17.39 tax and fees Best Western Kelly Inn 161 St. Anthony Avenue Saint Paul, Minnesota 55103 (651) 227-8711 The 3.5* (Crowne Plaza) and 3* (Holiday Inn Rivercenter) were available for $142 and $123 on this night, so my research didn't penalize me.
  8. Bid $100 and got a counteroffer of $113. Ignored it and bid $103 and got Le Meridien as expected. Bid through savingsbarn.com

  10. Must be something going on in DC this week...very few options under $300 at the conventional sites. I needed the nights of 13, 14 March 2006, either on the Metro or fairly near downtown. I unsuccessfully bid up to $151 for both nights on 4* in all DC zones a few days previously. When the 72 hours were up, I decided to split the 2 days, try 4*, then 3*. I started with 14 March since the conventional sites indicated this was the more difficult night. I bid up to $151 on 4* in all DC zones for 14 March 06, and then at 3* in Dupont Circle, Convention Center, Arlington, Crystal City, and was finally accepted in Georgetown at the M Street Hotel (formerly Wyndham, now Marriott) --as it was my final bid, I raised it to $153. I'm aware this isn't an optimal bidding strategy (should start a new bid for each zone), but I would have been content with any of these zones (though I bid them in the order of my preference, based on the known worst hotels in each zone). I was invited to extend the bid for extra days but, suspecting I'd gone a bit higher than necessary, I started a new bid for 13 March at $123 in Georgetown and was again accepted at the M Street Hotel. Interestingly, my backup was a conference rate of $250 at the same hotel, and the lowest rate on their web site is $299. I'm well satisfied with the outcome but I suspect I overbid by a few dollars on both days.
  11. Rates are very high in DC this week and many properties are sold out. I needed 3 nights but was unsucessful so split it into 3 separate 1-day bids. Bidding on Convention Center, Downtown, Dupont Circle, I was rejected at $100, but got the Omni at $120. I tried to extend the bid with an additional day (you get the link to do this by going to "help" and using the query "extend") but was rejected. Next day, I started a new bid for 3/30 and got the Omni again for $120 (I guess they added some availability overnight) and was again unsuccessful trying to extend the bid with an additional day. I started a new bid for 3/31 and got the Mayflower at $100. I'm well satisfied with the outcome.
  12. Hotwire has a 4* in Rio Grande-Humacao for $112. The amenities identify it as the El Conquistador. So I switched to Priceline and bid $90 for a resort and got it. Taxes etc. are $19.20 and I gather the hotel also imposes a resort fee of $12 or so.
  13. Check out Asia Wotif is good for last-minute (well, within 10 days) bookings.
  14. Le Meridien Apollo Couldn't get full period 15-20 at 4* for $101 so split into 3 days and 2. Got this for the last 2 days and Renaissance at the same amount for the first 3. Published rates were about $150 here and $220 at Renaissance.
  15. Tried 5* at $105 and got counteroffer of $142. Declined and bid 4* at $101 and got this.
  16. $35 bid produced $44 counteroffer; declined and got this at $40. This hotel only recently became a Doubletree; formerly it was simply the International Plaza.
  17. Rejected at $43, got this at $45. It's available from spg.com at $79.
