  1. I would like the cheapest possible price for any car size. I checked the cash reward again and it is $4 per day up to $20 valid on standard card and larger. I checked my husband's my rewards and noted that he also has the $20 offer as well as a $30 hotel offer (which would require 3 nights stay so it wouldn't have worked for my recent 2 hotel bids of 2 nights stay) Thanks Verga
  2. I am reposting this post - previously posted in car rental but I think this is where I should have posted it. This is my first time to bid for a car rental so I am not too sure of the bidding strategy. I tried $11 for an economy, $12 for a compact and $13 for a mid-size - all failed. I'll try again tomorrow. Please let me know if I should start with mid-size first at $13 and $12 to economy and compact or should I raise my price? My son has a $20 cash award for car rental - $5 per day valid on standard or larger. His flight is arriving at 10:40 pm while ours arrive at 6:20 PM (a 4 hour difference). Is there anyway my husband can use my son's $20 cash award or does my son has to book the car...which means we have to wait for him to arrive before we can rent the car. I used our PRICELINE link to make my bid. How can we access the $20 cash award with your pice.line link? Thanks for your assistance. Verga
  3. After my bid of $75, I was asked to add $22. Instead, I added Mountain View and bid $80 - SUCCESS!!! Yeay!! She got Sheraton Palo Alto Hotel at $80 - the hotel she most wanted and also where most of the event participants are staying!! $109 is the rate offered to the event participants and $119 is the price listed at Priceline and Expedia. $80 is-not much of a discount, but still very good!!! I used the PRICELINE links provided. Thank you for your assistance, thereuare.
  4. Thanks for your suggestion, Colfax. I asked my daughter to check it out and see which hotel would suit her needs. Meanwhile, we'll keep bidding for 3.5* and 4* up to $90 maybe $100. I asked her to check out the Stanford guest house available to guests with university related activities - $109 per night all in.
  5. I bid as per the suggested strategy: up to $70 for 3.5* hotel - all failed up to $80 for 4* hotel - all failed So should I wait....or increase my bid for 3.5* hotel? Thanks Verga
  6. I think I got it but to be sure....here is the strategy I am going to use today - Select 3.5* Palo Alto... Bid $55, if rejected add re-bid zone1 (Mountain View) Bid $60, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE Select 3.5* Palo Alto and re-bid zone2 (San Jose South) Bid $65, if rejected add re-bid zone1 (Mountain View) Bid $70, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE Select 4* Palo Alto + re-bid zone4 (Milpitas) (ie- one of the zones which is a re-bid zone at the 4* level but NOT at the 3.5* level) Bid $73, if rejected add re-bid zone1 (Mountain View) Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone2 (San Jose South) Bid $78, if rejected add re-bid zone3 (Newark) Bid $80
  7. I tried your strategy and PRICELINE links and won it at $51. We got the Little America Flagstaff. It has some great reviews at tripadvisor so we are looking forward to our stay there. Please edit heading to reflect the successful bid price. Thanks for all your assistance, thereuare.
  8. She will need a hotel for those 2 nights at whatever price but hopefully below $100...whether it is a 4* or 3.5* - no preference in hotel other than it must be close to the university at the lowest possible rate. We will continue to bid until she gets a hotel. If using Hotwire is better, please let us know. Thanks again for all your help.
  9. Target hotel - Palo Alto only. I made the following bids with no success: 3.5* Palo Alto at $45 - failed added Mountain view at $50 - failed added San Jose South at $52 failed so...I will try again tomorrow. Do you think I should start at 4* first from $60 up to a max of $70 (5 bids total - 3 bids noted above plus Milpitas and Newark) and if no success, the will try 3.5* from $52 to $60 (3 bids total)? I used your PRICELINE link for my bids.
  10. My daughter has to book a hotel room in Palo Alto (near Stanford University) for 2 nights (May 14-16) to attend events at the university. She has no vehicle so she has to stay near the university otherwise she would be cabbing back to her hotel. She is eyeing the 3.5* Sheraton Palo Alto Hotel which is listed at $119 at Priceline. How high should she bid to secure a hotel in Palo Alto? Thanks, Verga
  11. I tried 3* again and my bid for Flagstaff was $44 and added Sedona at $46 - both rejected. I used your PRICELINE link to bid. I prefer 3* if possible and up to $51 + taxes. I would love to stay at the new Marriott Courtyard but of course there is no guarantee that I'll get it. Right now, Ramada has a 40% sale that ends tomorrow (includes Ramada West Grand Canyon Area (2.5*) . I am thinking of reserving 2 nights at $47.40 per night ($52.36 all in) as my back-up.
  12. My bid was for 3* at both Flagstaff and Sedona. The last winning bid in the same area was $51 + taxes (Radisson). I was hoping to get something lower than that price.
  13. I am trying to secure a hotel in Flagstaff for May 12-14, 2010 (visiting Grand Canyon). Using your PRICELINE link, I bid $42 for Flagstaff and increased to $44 for Sedona - no luck. I will try again tomorrow. What is a reasonable amount to bid for that period? Thanks, Verga
  14. Right now, Roosevelt Hotel is showing a twitter special of $149/night. Sep 2 - 8, 2010 is available. You may wish to consider booking this hotel (secured with a credit card) as your back-up hotel until something better comes up. Cancellation policy: All reservations must be canceled by 4:00 PM at least 1 day prior to arrival date, in order to avoid a no show charge equal to 1 night's room rate, and applicable taxes. Promo rate - SWEET https://www.reservations-page.com/C00268/H0...e.ashx?pc=SWEET
  15. I don't know if this is the right place to post or not...and if not, please delete my post. The Roosevelt Hotel (NYC) has a facebook special TODAY only at $149/night. Rate code is FACEB. I was able to book 2 rooms from Sep 3 - 6, 2010, one room at 149/night rate and the other room at $159/night. I tried your dates - May 20 - 24 and the $149/night is available. The rate is not available if you try May 19 -24, 2010. "Book our special $149 rate and enjoy Spring in NYC. http://bit.ly/aslX7j (Based on Availability)" On dates that *are* available, the prices are: Cozy Queen - Comfortable: $149/night Superior King - Inviting: $159/night Deluxe King - Luxurious: $169/night Rooms with two double beds are also available at slightly higher prices. Please hurry because the special can be pulled at any time.
  16. I bid $80 this morning for a 3.5* Philadelphia university area hotel and was accepted on my first bid. I got Hilton Inn at Penn. My successful bid last time on Nov 29/09 for a Philadelphia university area hotel (Sheraton) was $100 so I thought an $80 bid would be a good start. Did I bid too high on my first bid? Expedia, Orbitz and Priceline's rate for Hilton Inn at Penn is $224 I used your PRICELINE link to bid.
  17. I forgot that I was supposed to start my bid at $80. So, I started at $70, $75, $80, $92 (Oops - I remembered and increased my bid) and finally $100 (success). I used your PRICELINE link. Please edit the heading to show $100 at Sheraton University City Hotel. Hilton Inn at Penn would have been closer to the campus.
  18. My daughter said up to $100. I tried to convince her to stay D/T as it would be cheaper but she prefers the campus for convenience as her purpose is really to visit the campus. I am going to start bidding again in another 4 hours. I thought I could get a 3.5* hotel in the university area for $90 since the Priceline website said that $90 was the last successful bid for that area (maybe different date). I have 5 free bids as follows: University area Trevose Glouchester City Line Cherry Hill I was thinking of starting at $80 and end up at $100 with $5 increment. Any suggestions with my bidding strategy? Any other permutation formula that I am not aware of?
  19. I was bidding for a 3.5* hotel for my daughter who wants the university area only. I started at $70 with $5 incremental increase up to $90. No success. Used your PRICELINE link. I will try again tomorrow.
  20. I used your PRICELINE link and bid for a 3.5* hotel for my sister starting at $41 with a $2 increment increase up to $51. Based on tripadvisor reviews, we very are pleased with this hotel.
  21. My nephew did book with lastminutetravel and got the Congress Plaza for $159 + taxes. This afternoon, I checked lastmintuetravel for Nov30-Dec 2 and there was a 4* hotel at $112. I told my nephew to switch booking and luckily, lastminutetravel agreed to waive the $25 cancellation fee as he is re-booking vs. canceling. He got the Crown Plaza - The Metro and he opted to have 2 beds at an additional $44 so the total per night before taxes is $156. I hope Crowne Plaza The Metro is a much better hotel.
  22. That is what I told my nephew because the tripadvisor shows poor review on that hotel. I'll pass along your comments and hope they haven't booked it yet.
  23. My nephew didn't even bother IDing the hotel - he just booked it because $99 was better than what they were bidding at Priceline. I passed along your suggestion of requesting a South face rooom with a river view. They are leaning towards booking a 3* hotel with lastminutetravel for Nov 30 to Dec 2 at $159 per night. They think it is the Congress Plaza as it has the same amenities. Thanks for all your help. Verga
  24. We earlier talked about breaking his stay in 2 segments of 2 nights each - Nov 28-Nov30 and Nov 30-Dec 2. He tried lastminutetravel.com and he noted that he can get a 3.5* hotel downtown for $134 for Nov 28-Nov30. So, with that in mind and using your PRICELINE link, my nephew tried $140 and $145 for a 3.5 star hotel for 4 days, Nov 28 to Dec 2, but no success. He tried Nov 30 to Dec 2 (2 nights) at $140 and $145 -also no success. He later checked Hotwire for Nov 28 to Nov 30 (2 nights) and saw $99 for a 4* hotel. With that price, he just booked it and got The Westin Chicago River North which he is very happy about. I am sorry but he forgot to use your HOTWIRE link. He thought I only gave him your PRICELINE link. He is now looking for 2 nights, Nov 30 - Dec 2. Should I close this thread and open up a new one for Nov 30-Dec 2?
  25. My nephew decided to bid himself using your PRICELINE link. He tried 4* at $130 and $135 for Nov 28 - Dec 2 and was not successful. Unfortunately he closed his browser so I don't think he can bid again for 3*
