  1. :) Went through the link to PRICELINE through www.savingsbarn.com Very tough.........I'd been trying for a few days to get a 4* hotel either in South Beach, Miami Beach or Miami Airport for around $100/nt. Not a chance. After trying various bids, waiting a day, bidding, waiting........my final bids went as follows; Bid $130 - Miami Airport (Rejected) Bid $140 - added Dadeland (Rejected) Bid $150 - added North Miami (Rejected) Bid $160 - added Miami Lakes - ACCEPTED Got the Intercontinental at $160. Best rate on the Intercontinental website for the same night was $180/nt. This ranks as the worst deal I've ever made on Priceline - a savings of only a little over 10%. Oh well.....I guess they all can't be winners. Perhaps I bid too early. Most of the time I bid on hotels is a few days before the stay, but I needed to get a hotel for the night and didn't want to be left out. Maybe it was the time of year, but I know others have gotten this hotel MUCH cheaper.
  2. I needed a hotel at the airport as I have an early morning flight out of Logan on Dec. 15th. Went through the www.savingsbarn.com link to PRICELINE. Selected the Logan Airport Revere location, chose 4* and tried a $60 bid. The bid was declined with an offer to accept at $74. I declined and re-opened my browser. Went through www.savingsbarn.com again, and this time Chose 4* and added the South Boston Zone (which has no 4* hotels). I added $4 to my bid and this time was accepted!! Lowest rate on the Hilton website was $159/nt......a savings of approximately 60%!! I'm very pleased and the Hilton Logan Airport is attached to the airport. I'm thrilled. :) Your Offer Price: $64.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 1 Subtotal: $64.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $15.80 Total Charges*: $79.80
  3. Went through the savingsbarn.com link to PRICELINE. I saw that the Beloit Inn was the only 3* hotel listed for this city, and The Beloit Inn was exactly the hotel I was looking for. Regular rate for this time on Priceline was $109/nt. I saw other special rates as low as $89/nt on the Beloit Inn website. I decided to lowball it a bit, but maybe not enough. My bid was accepted the first time. Your Offer Price: $45.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 2 Subtotal: $90.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $20.06 Total Charges*: $110.06 Regardless, a really wonderful deal at a good hotel in Beloit. Excellent!! :)
  4. Wanted two rooms in downtown Montreal. Had the following bid progression 1) Montreal 4* - Bid $60 - REJECTED 2) Added Dorval Airport Area - Bid $65 - REJECTED 3) Added Laval - Bid - $68 - **ACCEPTED**!! Your Offer Price: $68.00 (US dollars) Number of Rooms: 2 Number of Nights: 2 Subtotal: $272.00 (US dollars) Taxes & Service Fees: $57.04 (US dollars) Total Charges: $329.04 (US dollars With conversion to CAD $$, the rate including taxes and fees was around CAD $93.00 per night. On Sheraton's web site, the rate was CAD $159.00/nt plus tax. GREAT SAVINGS!!! :)
  5. Bid $15 for an Economy in Detroit for August 23rd for two days. Rejected, but was given an offer back of $24 with the opportunity to re-bid. I entered a re-bid of $17. Rejected. I then added a Compact car and raised the offer to $19. Accepted.
  6. I had been looking to go to New York, and wanted a 4* property in MTW or MTE. Problem was that for the weekend I was looking for, all the 4* hotels that typically are Priceline hotels, all were in the $300+ regular rate. I had a feeling I would come up empty handed. So thinking I wouldn't get it, I threw down a $120 bid for a 4* in MTW. I got it on the first bid! Yikes...could I have bid lower?? Got the New York Hilton, which I got on Priceline a few weeks ago for $150/nt. Did much better this time. Just checked the Hilton web site and the rates are down a bit, but the cheapest rate is still at $259/nt. So looks like I saved well over 50%!! I'm very pleased and the Hilton New York is a great hotel. I'm all set for a super weekend in NYC!! Your Offer Price: $120.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 3 Subtotal: $360.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $70.04 Total Charges: $430.04 :)
  7. First bid of $15 for a full size vehicle at DTW was accepted with National.
  8. Really had nothing to go on here so I thought I'd lowball it since most hotels in the area were going for over CAD $100 for the night. Bid - $35 - ACCEPTED! :) Comfort Inn web site shows as CAD $108 plus tax for the night. Still enjoyed a savings of approximately 60% after taxes and service fee added $35.00 (US dollars) Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 1 Subtotal: $35.00 (US dollars) Taxes & Service Fees: $11.29 (US dollars) Total Charges: $46.29 (US dollars)
  9. Got the New York Hilton (3 Rooms) for $150. Here's how it came to be (4 Stars in All requests); BID 1 - MTE - $125 - Rejected BID 2 - MTE & UES - $130 - Rejected BID 3 - MTE, UES & UWS - $136 - Rejected BID 4 - MTE, UES, UWS, MTW - $141 - Rejected Tried again: BID 1 - MTE - $145 - Rejected BID 2 - MTE & MTW - $150 - ACCEPTED Rate on the Hilton Web Site is $219 plus tax per night.....savings of approximately $60 per room (3 rooms) per night. Not bad. Not the best savings I've ever seen on Priceline, but still.....$60 dollars X 3 rooms X 2 nights = a total savings over the rack rate of approximately $360 for the two night stay. Your Offer Price: $150.00 Number of Rooms: 3 Number of Nights: 2 Subtotal: $900.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $166.86 Total Charges: $1,066.86
  10. Had been looking for the Hilton Times Square (MTW) for several days. I needed two rooms. Tried a booking strategy of starting with MTW for 4* and then rebidding in UES and UWS which do not have 4* properties. Nothing worked. Waited a few days and tried again starting at higher base amounts. My last try had me go as high as $145 for MTW with no luck. A few days later, I tried again starting at MTW 4* at $135. Nothing Wanting to close this off and get a hotel, I added MTE and increased my bid 1$ thinking that I might get the Hyatt. My bid was accepted at $136. I probably could have got the Hyatt slightly cheaper maybe - 10 bucks or so cheaper but.....who cares. I did well. Hotel is now showing best rate as over $300, so how can I complain! BID 4* MTW - $135 Offer refused BID 4* MTW & MTE - $136 - Offer Accepted My Offer Price: $136.00 per room Number of Rooms: 2 Number of Nights: 1 Subtotal: $272.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $54.62 Total Charges: $326.62
  11. I am now here at the Novi Doubletree, and I must say............the place is a dump. Doubletree should be ashamed, as should Hilton....as should Priceline! This hotel is NOT a 3*. Even calling it 2* would be a stretch. This hotel was a 3* hotel...................in 1974. Even a $60, I feel ripped off.
  12. This was a quick one. Couldn't find much to reference to on here for Novi. Prices seemed pretty high, and with only re-bid zone (Livonia), I went in heavy......probably too much, but still got a good deal. Bid $60 dollars and won on the first bid. Doubletree Novi. Bid Accepted - $60.00 Taxes & Fees - $14.56 TOTAL - $74.56 Best rate on the hotel's web site was 119.00 for the night, so I still did pretty good. I am reading some very so-so reviews of this hotel on line indicating that it shouldn't be rated as a 3* property any longer. Oh well.....I'll find out real soon.
  13. Was looking for a 3* property in the MSP, MofA area. My bidding strategy was as follows; 1) Started at $40 and selected Airport - Mall of America Vicinity area - Offer Rejected 2) Re-Bid at $45 and added Burnsville area (no 3* in Burnsville) - Offer Rejected 3) Re-Bid at $50 and added Coon Rapids area (no 3* in Coon Rapids) - Offer Rejected 4) Re-Bid at $55 and added Fridley area (no 3* in Fridley) - Offer Rejected 5) Re-Bid at $65 and added Maplewood area (no 3* in Maplewood) - OFFER ACCEPTED! Rate - $65.00 Taxes and Service Fee - $15.51 TOTAL - $80.51 Park Plaza Web Site - Best Rate for May 3rd, 1 nt. - $139.00!! :) :) :o
  14. Bid $30 first time selecting Pittsburgh (Airport PIT) area. Won on first try. Didn't expect Country Inn & Suites. Am a bit nervous. Hope its not a fleabag! Oh well....for $30 what do I expect!! :)
  15. Bid $60 for LAX Airport - Rejected Offered to confirm my booking for an additional $18 dollars. I refused and added the Los Angeles Airport (LAX) Culver City area which has no 4* hotels. This time bid $68 - Accepted. Sheraton was an excellent hotel and the regular rate at the hotel that night was $119/nt. :)
  16. Thanks...yes I am in NY right now and enjoying my stay - hotel has great location. This was booked at 330PM on the afternoon of Friday, August 5th - so basically only a few hours prior to the time I actually checked in. I assume in this case the last minute booking helped get a good deal, however, I notice that someone who booked on August 2nd, got the sister hotel to the one I'm in (The New York Hilton) at $120 a night for the same nights. I'm happy with this location and the price cannot be beat. Thanks to that person however, because without this web site and that post, I would never have had a clue where to start or even if it were possible!
  17. Opening bid of $120 MTW 4* - rejected 2nd bid - $120 - added UMT - rejected 3rd bid - $130 - added MTE - ACCEPTED! Got the Hilton Times Square at 130/nt for the weekend. Lowest rate after winning on the Hilton.com web site for this hotel was $289/nt. :)
  18. First bid - USD $39.00 (rejected) 2nd bid - USD $42.00 (rejected) 3rd bid - USD $45.00 (rejected) No more areas - waited 72 hours Re-bid - USD $50.00 (CAD $62.00) - **ACCEPTED** Checked the rate at the www.novotel.com web site. Cheapest rate was CAD $124.50/nt. plus tax. Got it for 50% off.
  19. First bid - Economy - $11 - rejected Give second chance - Bid $12 - rejected Given chance to change car type - changed to compact - Bid $13 - Accepted
  20. The Hyatt Regency Scottsdale is a wonderful resort, but........be aware - we were originally put in a room right above the lobby near the front of the hotel. The people and noise were very loud, and there is a VERY loud Mexican band that plays every night until 2AM. It was like they were in my room. I never complain but the next morning I asked that I be moved to another room. Without blinking they moved me to an upgraded room at the other end of the property. Nice and quiet and an outdoor patio for sunning. All for $90??!! Too good to be true - and many thanks to this web site for helping to make it possible.
  21. Got the Hyatt Regency in Scottsdale (4*) for $90. Bid 1 - $75 - rejected Bid 2 - $80 - rejected Bid 3 - $85 - rejected Bid 4 - $90 Success! Checked the rate after winning the bid at the Hyatt.com web site. Cheapest rate was $380!!
  22. Thank you. So......can I assume what you're saying is that although Priceline makes a suggestion, the price could actually be much higher (or many times lower) that their suggested price? Again.......$130 would be the biggest bargain of the century during this time. Priceline usually suggests inflated prices don't they? I've never seen a suggested price well below what the going rate is? So I'm guessing that if I went in and bid $130 or less during this time, I would most certainly be rejected?
  23. Hi: Can anyone help. Does anyone know what the 5* hotel for Cancun on Priceline might be? I'm very puzzled because I'm looking for the 12th of March for 6 nights. Priceline is suggesting $130 a night for a 5* hotel. This seems insane, considering that all the quality hotels for that time period are all well over $200 a night. $130 would actually be a steal. Can anyone advise?? Thanks!
