  1. Answered one unanswered message and used the PRICELINE link - now the median is at 193$ (was at 300+ in between). Thanks for your advise!
  2. Hi all, looking at PL (and HW) for some time and have fallback options booked through Quikbook. We prefer to stay downtown (been to 3 Thompson hotels except 60 Thom) and now i saw a median of 144$ at PL for 4*. Given that 3 hotels in Soho and 5 in Wall St are above 200, most above 250 i was wondering if there's a mistake and it should be 244$? Mistake or not, would that influence my bidding chances? In other words, is there some built-in mistake that allows me to get more for less? Or could they have so many other hotels not listed to bring down median price and I get something very differrent? Thanks and HNY everyone! FLockster
  3. Aaron, thereuare, thanks for your replies, info re PL wins really helps! WE reconsider bidding for ESB or CPS areas, trying to avoid MT. Or stick with Thompson LES for 180 which we got through Quikbook. Yes, it would be for the same thread as my recent Howire question. Wasn't sure where to put it, as i thought it's more general. For further PL bids, definitely use BB links. Cheers Flockster
  4. Merry X-mas everyone! I'm going on a 6-day-trip to NYC with my wife in early Jan. Secured a quikbook offer very early and now try to find a bargain in Lower Manhattan. Unfortunately, PL groups SoHo wit Wall Street and I was wondering, if and how I could search all winning hotels - in particluar I'm interested if 60 Thompson, Soho Grand or Tribeca Grand were ever won, because I mainly see the Hilon Millennium and sometimes the Gild Hall. If so, what were the strategies? I assume, bids have to be higher, but can you make sure, you don't jutst overpay for the Millenium Hilton??? Any hints anyone? Thanks and happy holiday, Flockster
  5. Hi all, may I request your help in identifying a 4*-hotel in Downtown-Soho. It has 4.5 of 5 at Tripadvisor (unfortunately, doesn't state number of reviews) and lists following amenities: Suite A guestroom designed for an extended stay and/or that more spacious than the average hotel room. Suites typically offer residential-style furnishings, as well as separate living and sleeping areas; some also offer kitchenettes. Complimentary Breakfast <amenity names only please... not descriptions> Fitness Center Guests have access to exercise equipment; an additional charge may apply. Restaurant(s) Property offers at least one restaurant on the premises; hours and days of operation may vary. Business Center Guests have access to business equipment and services; an additional charge may apply. Laundry Facilities <amenity names only please... not descriptions> High-speed Internet Access Guestrooms are equipped with high-speed Internet access; an extra charge may apply. Could this be a Clubquarters or Embassy Suites, although at Priceline they're listed as 3.5* only? I try to avoid them and was hoping for a Soho / Tribeca Grand... Thanks for your help - and have a great holiday season! Florian
  6. There are two major conferences, Academy of Management and American Marketing Association, both drawing 1000s of attendees... in fact, Fairmont is one of the conference hotels and the conference rate is 195 (as single), 205 (as double). Congrats on your result! Flockster
  7. What is wrong with the Westgate? Just got it for 70$/ night (see Priceline San Diego Westgate Hotel) Probably wouldn't do another bid, but like to know for curiosity... Thanks, Flockster
  8. 70 $, The Westgate Hotel, tried yesterday at 60 reject, waited 24 hrs 70$ immediate accept. It works for me, but just saw glenninflorida is trying to avoid it...so I'd like to know what's wrong with it.
  9. Thanks again, I know they use different zones - that's where the original problem was, not being sure to get Soho, beacuse of the grouping with Wallstreet... But didn't know, it was independent from the "retail" version... Do you know, how they come up with the "$ Best Deal" designation?
  10. Thanks for this, but don't I get the whole information by selecting Matrix view of the results for my travel dates?!?
  11. Thanks! I think I understand the re-bidding; was rather wondering, how safe zones like Brooklyn, LI, the airports are to re-bid for a 4*. There are no properties listed as 4*, but they might find something at, say, JFK, and then you're stuck. Do you know of cases, when PL finds you hotels that are not listed in the fixed price section? Thanks again, Flockster
  12. Just started a new round for the above dates at $100, and then, adding Chelsea $110 - still no luck. does anyone know, if Brooklyn, Bronx, or LI really have no 4*, then I could add one of them as a second dummy... Also starting to seriously contemplate UWS (and MTE)... Thanks, Flockster
  13. Hi all, I've searched both PL itself and this board, but couldn't find an explanation of what "$ Best deal" would indicate when selecting the star level at PL. Any idea appreciated. To give a concrete example, for my travel date, NYC, 06/03-06/07, Downtown/Soho 4* has a median of $332 and 3,5* has one of $317. Yet, 3,5* is indicated as "Best deal"... And to follow-up the question, how do I get my bid right to match the "best deal"?!? Thanks, Flockster
  14. No problems with German Visa (Citibank) or Mastercard (Barclaycard) using Delaware as state and then full address, adding Germany after my city...
  15. Sorry, it was April 19-20, 2009 - I had put it, but modified the entry...
  16. successful at 100$, June 1-3, 2008, don't remember regular rate and tries great rate for London, last year and good hotel, ideally located, 5 min walk to tube
  17. successful with 80$ at first bid, but don't remember regular rate back then; now it's 169 and i think it was mor ein the range of 199. it's a really good hotel, esp. at this rate, but a bit far off, if you like to walk the city... flockster
  18. Hi all, I'm new to this forum, so this is my first request for help. I do know something and have successfully bid on priceline before knowing about this forum last week only. So my question is: We (my wife and I) are going to NYC from June 3-6 and like to stay in Soho/Tribeca/LES area. There are some 4* on Priceline with good enough reviews (Soho Grand, Tribeca Grand, 60 Thompson) which you can book directly and I'd be happy with. However, naming your own price Soho is clubbed with Downtown/ Financial District which adds the Millenium Hilton, one I'd tend to avoid... Would you have any idea, how I can make sure to land in Soho? "Regular" rates start at 284 (Soho: 60 Thompson) and 289 (Hilton). Hope that's all the information you need to help me. Thanks Flockster PS: I forgot to tell that I just made the first, unsuccessful bid, with 80$ (Soho only)
