  1. I tried bidding up to $230 in the Soho-Tribeca area but wasn't able to get a room. I ended up going for a PRICELINE EXPRESS deal which was a 4* in same area and from the information on this site, I knew what i was getting into. Not a great deal but not bad considering this particular weekend seems to be pretty expensive.
  2. I noticed that HOTWIRE had the same hotel (judging by the amenities) for $134. I started my bid at $60 because of all the re-bid zones and ended up at $115 with two tries left (going by $5 each time.) Posted rates are over $179/night so I'm very happy with the deal. I used the BiddingHelper.com link at the top.
  3. The following amenities were listed for this property: Fitness Center Pool(s) Restaurant(s) Business Center High-Speed Internet Access Accessible for the blind Accessible for the deaf Free Internet Accessible path of travel In-room accessibility Accessible bathroom Handicapped parking Roll-in shower
  4. Thanks Janisa. I tried up to $185 without success so I went with a deal on Travelzoo instead. I think if I had broken up the dates then I would have been more successful but since I'm going from Thursday to Monday, I would have had to break it into three since Friday and Saturday night are the more expensive nights.
  5. I'm just curious as to what other amounts were tried and whether I can find the same or equivalent property at a lower price. I'm aware of the risks involved with Priceline as I've used it many times before.
  6. Janisa, I'm looking to book a stay for Feb 2nd to Feb 6th and the Dream hotel looks pretty good at $160. What value did you start your bidding at? Thanks.
  7. I failed to mention that I did indeed use the PRICELINE link to book my hotel. Thanks.
  8. I failed to mention that I did indeed use the PRICELINE link to book my hotel. Thanks.
  9. Tried for a week to get a lower rate in the area but ended up with the Hotel Concorde Saint-Lazare for $195 for the dates of 6/14/10-6/16/10. Posted rates are around $300 so a decent deal.
  10. Was trying to get any hotel in Paris, started out in the Latin Quarter with a bid of $110 and was rejected. Re-bid with Champs Elysees and got the Le Meridien Etoile for $120 a night for the dates of 6/12/10 and 6/14/10. It was about a 50% discount on the posted rates so very satisfied.
  11. So I finally was able to book my hotels in Paris. Did as suggested and broke my bid down to Saturday and Sunday and another for Monday and Tuesday. I got Saturday and Sunday on my second bid at $120 for the Le Meridien Etoile in the Champs Elysees area. I then spent the next week trying to get the Monday and Tuesday there as well but ended up at the Hotel Concorde Saint-Lazare for $195 a night. I'll re-post my winning bids in separate threads.
  12. I checked a couple of hotels and it does appear the 12th and 13th are actually cheaper than the 14th and 15th. That seems strange as the weekends are typically more expensive than the weekdays. I think I'll try a few more bids tonight up to $150 and if they don't go through then I'll split the two dates. Has anyone had any success with hotels in Nice? We're spending the second half of our trip there so that's the next search. Thanks for the help!
  13. I'm having a tough time finding a hotel in Paris for Saturday 06/12/10 to Wednesday 06/16/10. I saw that a member got the Marriott Rive Gauche hotel for the few days right before the 12th for $120. I tried for the same area with bids from $115 to $135 without any success. Is this because I have a Saturday and Sunday in my bid? Am I better off separating the bids and doing one for Sunday to Wednesday and then one just for Saturday?
  14. I just won the Hyatt Regency in Montreal on 08/31/09 for $60 USD before taxes.
  15. Just won 2 nights at the Marriott in Ottawa (Downtown) for $73 USD per night before taxes. Dates are for 08/28/09 - 08/30/09. Started the bid at $70 and got rejected. Added Glouster as a free re-bid zone and won at $73.
  16. Well I took your advice and split my bids, and now I am half way there. I got the 4* Grand Hyatt for $105 for Sunday night and Monday night (05/17/09-05/19/09). Now all I need to do is get a hotel for the Saturday night. So far I've gone as high as $145 for the MTW, MTE, and TS areas with no luck. Fortunately, I have some more room to go up since I am paying much less for the Sunday and Monday night than originally thought. I'm going to try to focus on the MTE area and hopefully get the Grand Hyatt again for $160 or less. Wish me luck! Thanks again for the help.
  17. I do not have a specific preference to the MTE area but would like to stay somewhere central. MTW and TS are probably more expensive so I figured that MTE area would be the best. There also isn't much data regarding the other areas, with respect to winning bids, so I am not sure what hotels would be available. Would I have a better chance at finding a hotel by including MTW and TS areas as well? Splitting is an option but since I am there for such a short trip I would rather not have to move around the city. It's an option that I might entertain if I cannot get anything within the next couple of days.
  18. Can anyone offer any suggestions? I am trying to get a 4 star hotel for the weekend of 05/16/09 to 05/19/09 in the MTE area. Using the calender of wins and all of my re-bidding options I have submitted bids from $100, all the way to $140. There are no wins over this amount in the calender so I was wondering if the prices have gone up or perhaps they have stopped accepting bids. Does this happen very often? Should I wait a few days and start the bidding process over or should I keep bidding higher? Thanks for the help.
