  1. ok; had a fine stay at the hilton, night of 9/24 points to note: + got a room on the 10th floor, tower 1 + got two double beds, as requested + did NOT get the impression at all that being a priceliner was a disadvantage + clean, well appointed room, 4* rating is justified hilton via priceline recommended. other points: + neighborhood to the south/west is a bit dodgy, esp from a "family perspective", e.g. urban blight, XXX clubs, loitering, etc. + going east, its an easy walk to Powell St/Union Sq. & BART thanks for the help.
  2. hmm... must be something to do with the specific dates of your trip. i just booked one night (this weekend) @ hilton (4* USW) for $90. not much help, i realize, but hopefully a data point for your consideration.
  3. thanks for all the help & suggestions! ok - so here's how it went down ... i used the usual zone tricks to lowball $70 for a 4* hotel in USE and work my way up. eventually got my offer of $90 accepted at the hilton (USW) for 1 night (friday, sep 24 - we will catch the lion king show at the orpheum, stay overnight and then head back to the south bay on saturday, sep 25). the best rate available from the hilton was $169. from hotwire there was a 4* in USW for $113, which sounds like the hilton then called the hotel and requested 2 dbl beds in the room - they have taken the request, but as everyone pointed out, there are no guarantees. i'll probably hedge my bets and carry a sleeping bag with me 8-).
  4. so priceline says that all rooms will accomodate 2 adults comfortably, ie "1 double 1 king 1 queen 2 doubles 2 twins" we will be travelling with our kids (two teenagers) and would prefer 2 beds, ideally doubles. in your experience, have you ever gotten bookings with a single bed? is the hotel flexible in dealing with this? in a more general sense, do hotels have allocations of "less desirable" rooms for priceliners? i assume this would also be a consideration for two people travelling together who are not, er ... "bed compatible". EdJ
