  2. I decided to go with HOTWIRE in the end. Got a 3.5 star suite in Old Town for $94 a night at the Sheraton Suites for the entire dates I wanted. Has a door between the bedroom and the living area which sealed the deal, as the person I am staying with on this trip is the worlds worst snorer and this morning I found her sleeping in the bath complete with pillows and mattress after I yelled at her this morning for the umpteenth time. :) Good to see a hotwire deal, thought priceline was the way to go 95% of the time. You can move this thread to the Hotwire forum or I will make new post in 12 hours. BTW I used the HOTWIRE link through Better Bidding. Cheers!
  3. I need some help. Visiting DC for tourism a few days from now. I have been bidding for days using rebid zones, reducing the dates and upping my rates but have no luck getting anything at all, just heaps of rejections. That 'you're hotel is in the bag' thing is really pissing me off right about now. I have tried up to $110 for 4 star Capital, Georgetown, Whitehouse. Foggy no luck. I have tried up to $95 for a 3.5 star including Crystal City, no luck. I can't try again until tomorrow and might have to try 3 star now but can't today because I used springfield as a re-bid zone and it has a 3 star. How high will I probably have to go to get a 4 star in the middle of the action or a 3.5 in crystal city? I think I have left it too late :) Is Arlington an OK place to stay if travelling each day to the DC area to visit the sites? At the moment I am at the Westin in Jersey City, been here for 2 weeks as a base for Manhattan travel and it's been awesome. Thanks
  4. Aussie tourist currently staying at the Trump in Vegas thanks to betterbidding. Just booked a night in LAX as I can't make my Qantas connect to NYC unless I fly out of vegas one day earlier. Happy with another bargain 4 star for one night, looking forward to starting my 2 weeks at the Westin Jersey City, also thanks to betterbidding! Cheers
  5. I've haven't been to the Westin or New York but I'm booked in for 2 weeks in May there. From Penn it looks like it's either the PATH or a taxi (or minibus in your case?) Anyway, PATH seems like the best option for transport, that's why I chose the Westin. With 6 people you are better off with a metrocard then a PATH smart-link card, as you get a 15% discount on loading it, and you can scan through up to four people on each card. In Manhattan up to three children 44 inches tall and under ride for free on subways and local buses when accompanied by a fare paying adult. On the PATH Children age 5 and under ride PATH free. Fake it with the six year old. PATH www.panynj.gov/path/index.html(Port Authority Trans-Hudson) is a subway type system connecting Newark and various points on the New Jersey shore of the Hudson River with New York City. Two lines pass under the Hudson and enter the city, one terminating at a temporary World Trade Center site station in downtown, the other at 33rd Street in midtown. The 33rd Street Station was once connected underground to Penn Station, but now, presumably due to security concerns, the underground passage is closed and you must walk a block west on the surface of 33rd. Also check out some free hours for museums, gardens and zoos here: http://www.newyorkology.com/archives/2009/..._hours_at_m.php
  6. $120 was the bid price, so I think it's without tax. I actually need a room with two beds, and the description doesn't say that, so hopefully the suite has a sofa bed.
  7. Not a bad price for a Friday and Saturday night. What do you think? Shame about the resort fee on top, but it's nice not having a casino IMHO.
  8. You could get the Hyatt but seeming I got the Westin chances are good you will too? I need a room with 2 Queen beds and I think I will be accomodated because I'm staying for 2 weeks, maybe first night it won't happen if we're extremely unlucky but I'm sure it will be OK. They wouldn't want guests annoying them three times a day asking when our room will be ready, which is what I'll be doing if we don't get 2 Queens. According to my research the trip from JFK will take quite a while but not a lot of walking: http://www.hopstop.com?action=route&ro...2aff80bdb18x0af For daily travel to Manhattan and beyond the PATH system which is 24 hours is the best way to go. I 'virtually' walked from the PATH station to the hotel on google maps and it seems easy enough distance with one bag of luggage even in the evening. It's literally a 3 minute walk from the station so even at night when I'm doing it I think we will be ok as long as I don't wave my iphone or laptop around. If you get the Westin I can meet you at the station when you arrive beacuse I'll be a pro on the transport system by the 28th of May :) I was planning on taking the subway to the Westin but for the $15 per person for the shuttle and the PATH and Subway that day, might as well pay the $60 (hopefully) or so dollars for a taxi direct there from JFK. Note that the drivers at JFK don't have to take you New Jersey and it's not on the meter, it's an agreed rate. I will also purchase a weekly unlimited metropass at JFK for $23.50 giving unlimited transport on trains (maybe buses too?). Then because we'll be going to Manhattan everyday, I will also get a PATH SmartLink weekly unlimited pass for $18 (plus $5 for the physical card I think). Gary I'd like to talk further, I'm on Skype my username is Zan5hin.
  9. Hey Gary, Check out my post in this forum, I just won on Priceline for $85 a night including all of the time you are there. I reckon you can't go past this deal. I also wouldn't mind checking out the baseball (I saw your other thread) because I'm all up for NY experiences. Also would love going to an NBA game at the garden - and the person I'm staying with has zero interest in sports so send me a message and maybe we can organise something together? Let me know if you end up staying there or somewhere else, we can meet up and discuss who is going to win the Ashes this year. Both our sides seem like are having a bad time at the moment so it's definitely up for grabs. Also, I saw this on TV the other week - some major league baseball star named Manny Ramirez trying to learn to play cricket, absolutely hilarious, especially when he goes to run to first base!!!! Of course I have as much idea who he is as most Americans would know Ponting or Warnie. Cheers Mate
  10. Hi, New user to this site, and very happy with the information provided, I was able to book the Westin for over 2 weeks for the bargain rate of $85 a night for my first ever trip to New York (I'm in Melbourne, Australia). This is cheaper then most 1 bedroom shared places on Craigslist. $80/night bid not successful $85/night bid successful Definitely a case of "it pays to do your research" - on Hotwire they wanted $112 a night and on the Westin website over $200! With the transportation option I believe I found the best bargain in town - and this after grabbing a special at the MGM Grand in Vegas (direct site) for $60 / night including 2 person buffet daily. This is on top of the Qantas return flights MEL-LAX-JFK for AU$930 (US$650). It's definitely the right time to travel! Do I have to do something else to make this show up on the Calendar of Wins or is that done by the Admins? Also how do I go about now requesting a Non-Smoking room with two Queen beds? Will I get hotel email details from Priceline or do I find the number and call up, or do I wait until check-in? Cheers
