  1. Just a little tip on the Sheraton at Fisherman's Wharf. Not being familiar with San Fran, I learned a lot. Basically, Fisherman's Wharf kinda blows, in my estimation. It's a really wretched area. Very tacky. Reminds me of Niagara Falls. While the location is convenient along the waterfront, I think we would have done better bidding strictly in, say, Financial district, which is right near Chinatown. For instance, a friend used priceline and got the Hilton in the Financial District. We visited him. Awesome views of the Coit Tower, etc. and right next door to City Lights bookstore (practically), Nanking restaurant, Chinatown, etc. The Sheraton is just a four floor hotel surrounding a rather lame swimming pool that wasn't even open. The air conditioning was loud and the walls are thin as paper. I'm surprised it's considered a 4-star.
  2. Bid $70 (USE) for 4*, rejected, then.... Added Civic Center, bid $72, rejected, then... Added FW, bid $76, SUCCESS: Sheraton Fisherman's Wharf 2500 Mason Street San Francisco, California 94133 415-362-5500
  3. Ended up staying at a friend's beach house on the Gulf, since I didn't want to make the drive all the way from Panama city to the wedding.
  4. Ended up staying in Evanston by making conventional reservations. It's a long ride on the El, but what are you going to do?
  5. I'm looking for tips regarding an upcoming weekend in San Francisco. I'm looking for a room, preferably in a 4-star, from March 25, a Saturday, checking out on Monday, March 27. I'm not very familiar with San Fran, so I'm looking for tips on what zone to bid in. I've heard good things about the Wharf, and SOuth of Market. Just wondering what y'all think. We'd like to be in an area that's relatively central, has decent nightlife and restaurants, etc. Thanks for any help.
  6. The city is absolutely one hundred percent full on those dates, from the best I can determine. At least downtown, anyway. Priceline and Hotwire are both coming up with nothing, and individual calls to random hotels within a five mile radius of downtown are all booked. They need to build more hotels there.
  7. Been trying to get a hotel in Chicago for Thursday, Oct. 13 to Sunday, Oct. 16. Was looking for NMA or Mag Mile/Loop. Bid $100 for 4*, rejected, and added another zone Bid $120, added another zone Bid $140 added another zone Bid $160, added Boutique hotels Bid $180, still rejected. I know the Bears are home that weekend which isn't making this easier. I'm going to try again with three stars, but can't do it now because I don't want a three-star in some of the zones I picked. So how many days do I have to wait? Any tips would be appreciated. Should I try for Hotwire? Thank you.
  8. Just looking for a little guidance. Looking to bid on a three-day stay in Chicago in mid October, and was hoping for a four-star near the action. Which zone is better -- the North Michigan Ave/River North zone or the Millennium, Loop and Grant Park zone? I guess when I say 'action' I mean good restaurants, nightlife, shopping, bars, etc. Any advice is appreciated.
  9. Thanks very much for the tips. It's a big help. We may bite the bullet and get a beach rental closer to Inlet Beach, which is where the wedding is. Thanks again.
  10. I have a wedding to go to in late August about 15 miles west of Panama City. I was wondering what hotels Priceline offers in Panama city Beach, and what kind of bids have been successful. Or if there any other suggestions on bidding around there... Thank you.
  11. Started out at $117 in MTE alone. Got rejected. Went up in roughly $5 and $6 increments, adding Upper East, then Upper West, then MTS, then MTW. Finally came through for $141 when I had checked every area but downtown/Soho. With taxes, it's about $338.
  12. Was trying for a four-star in MTE, MTW or south of Central Park. Came back accepted on first bid. With taxes, it's around $180. Never stayed at the Waldorf before, but their lobby's pretty nice. LOL.
  13. Was looking for a 4* hotel in downtown/Vanderbilt section for the second weekend in February. I bid in $5 increments using the other zones, up to $75. Kept getting rejected, so I lowered my standards and went for a 3 star hotel in Downtown/Vanderbilt. From looking at other successful bids, I started at $35 and got it! In retrospect, should have started lower and utilized the other zones where there are no three-star hotels. Oh well. Still a great deal. With taxes, the two-night total comes to $87.95. This site rules.
  14. Hi -- I'm a newbie and think this site is awesome. I'm wondering if I can get some advice from some veterans. I've put in two bids for a 4-star in South Beach -- $85 and $95 -- for Oct. 9 and 10 (a Saturday and Sunday night). Both have been rejected. I'm wondering if it would be best to wait, or to keep upping my bid. Or if there's any other advice anyone can give me. For instance, I could expand my bids to include other four-star areas -- I'm only familiar with South Beach. Thanks!
