  2. Thanks, I did read and re read the info and still couldn't quite grasp the concept.

It finally made sense and it really is simple. I give you guys and gals alot of

credit for the patience you show in trying to explain this! Thank you!

So here is what I did, I'm trying for two rooms for three nights (12/20-23)

    4*MTW $117 reject

    MTW + UES $120 reject

Now I'm going to try this

    4* MTW + Brooklyn $130

    4* MTW + Chelsea $135

    4* MTW + Long Island $140

I can always try MTE but I won't go above $112

If that doesn't work, I'll bag the trip (it will be close to $1000) and we'll go skiing instead.

  4. Stayed at NY Helmsley after bidding on PL. Called the hotel to request double beds, was told they would put the request in but couldn't guarantee because of booking through a third party.

Called the day before arrival and the request had been noted and we were very happy that they put us in a room with a double bed. We were told that we would be in a 'standard room' not

a recently renovated 'city room'...well, no problem for us, the room was really nice, it was large with a beautiful view of the city. We are so happy we got the Helmsley, the staff was fantastic

and the location really worked well for us.

  5. Well, hotwire did respond, with a stock answer about their policy with regard to handicap rooms only they don't address the issue at all. My cousin tried to cancel his reservation to bid on hotwire (knowing that they had handicapped rooms available but they wouldn't let him cancel so he was stuck paying the $110 per night. Thanks to all who tried to help.

  6. No, he doesn't have to stay a particular hotel, just one that has an accessible room. We are all traveling from across the country our uncle's funeral outside of Philadelphia. Ft Washington PA, my cousin is flying in tonight and staying five nights. He already has a room reserved direct with the Holiday Inn. When I checked their website they still have an available handicap room for the week. I think I'm going to advise him to see if he can negotiate with the manager tomorrow morning (his flight arrives after midnight tonight). I'm not handicapped so this never crossed my mind, I know that you can't be sure of getting a non smoking room or the desired number of beds but this is alittle more serious. He might not even be able to make it in through the doorway or more importantly the bathroom.

  7. Thanks, I just called hotwire, the representative said all sales are final with no guarantees, I asked a couple of times if this also included not being able to get a handicap room

and she was insistent that 'all bookings are final'. Kind of a shame and I wonder if anyone has ever booked and had a problem or success . My cousin is flying in from

Lousiana and obviously can't 'take a chance' that a handicap room won't be available.

  8. I have been on the Hotwire website and can't find an answer about handicap rooms. I am traveling to Phila tomorrow, booked through Hotwire, got the Holiday Inn Ft Washington for

$41 a night. My cousin, traveling for five days booked direct with hotel, $110 a night. He said he couldn't trust priceline or hotwire to guarantee an accessible room. I did a search

of this forum or the pl forum and found that pl will refund charges if hotel is unable to accommodate...does anyone know hotwire's policy? They are now showing the room (at least

I think it is the same) for $39 a night and I would love to be able to save my cousin some serious $$$. Many thanks.

  9. We stayed at this hotel one night, it is a great hotel, very close to JMU and many chain restaurants.

Rooms were clean, modern and well appointed. Free breakfast starting at 530am. Waffles and

some kind of gravy with sausage included with all the usual cereal, muffins, coffee and juices.

Great stay at a great price. Felt really lucky to have gotten this room at the priceline bid of $38.

    Staff extremely friendly and helpful.

  10. Just wanted to mention that I went to Orbitz and read their reviews, they were quite favorable...so hopefully I did even better than I thought. Will post after the trip.

After reading all the NY city posts I just booked two rooms in April for my daughter's birthday,April 17-19 ~ we got the Hemsley for $92 a night! I'm so happy. Thank you Better Bidding!

  11. Finally got a bid accepted through priceline. Started with $50 for 3*, then $45 for 2.5*, both rejected, risked a 2* at $38 and got

the Jameson Inn. Reviews are not too hot, but we are only there to sleep after a concert at JMU so, $38 isn't bad. I got 2 rooms,

    @ $38 + 16 in taxes for a total of $92. The hotel's website lists rooms starting at $90 + 6% and 5% taxes so I'm pretty happy.
