  1. I appreciate the encouragement. I'll try again in January, perhaps, to see how my luck runs. At least I'm not in a time crunch. I have to tell you how much I have appreciated this board. Your helpful advice has already saved me hundreds of dollars in hotel bills. My industry has an association that I could join for $250+/year. One of the perks is tips on bidding Priceline for convention hotels. I have opted out because I found BB! Thanks! Kim
  2. Looking for a hotel at Logan Airport for 4/30/05. Hotwire lists it as: Logan Intl Airport BOS Central Boston 3* $36.00 It doesn't list any amenities at all. Any idea what hotel it could be? Thanks! Kim
  3. Two nights Thurs. 4/28 & Fri. 4/29/05 My first bid was Worcester for $47. Priceline "offered" to guarantee the reservation for $13 more, so I knew I was getting close. My only other area option was Auburn. I bid $53 and won the bid. Last year our convention had blocks of rooms at the both the Worcester Crowne Plaza and the Holiday Inn. Convention specials were $99/night. Let's just say I'm happy! Now if I can only get Logan for our last night... Kim
  4. I am bidding for Sat. April 30, 2005. I tried Revere-Logan, going for a 4*. I decided to start the bid at $47 since I did not get that red message warning me of an overly-low bid. Revere-Logan $47 added S. Boston $50 added Chestnut Hill $53 added Medford $57 No luck. Then I thought I might try a 3*. I started at $50 and got the red warning message. Why would a 4* take a $50 bid but a 3* tell me it's too low? Anyway, I didn't proceed yet with the 3*. I have 6 months before my trip. Should I wait a bit longer? I need some help with strategy! Kim
  5. You're right about the $85. I was convinced that there had to be a way. I consider it providential that I came across that info on splitting a bid! Oh, I did forget to mention that when I placed the first bid at $48, I got an "offer" from PL for a guaranteed booking at $14 more. As you can see, I declined and saved myself eight bucks! :) The convention is directly across the street at the convention center adjoining the Westin. The Westin rooms are a bit more cushy, but their convention special is higher than Hilton's. We actually stayed at this particular Hilton the past two years, so I was delighted to learn that this is the hotel that gets the PL bids. As for "working," these conventions are actually fun for me! Thanks again for all the inside scoop. I have enjoyed getting the hang of using PL to my greatest advantage! Kim
  6. After much frustration trying to get this hotel for cheap, I was coming up empty. I'd been trying for Thursday-Sunday. My bids were up to $85 and still no luck. I gave up because I can get the convention rate for $99, so I figured I'd just wait and try again when the date got closer. Then today I read on BB somewhere about splitting a bid. So I decided to try for just the weekend (Friday 4/22 with checkout on Sunday 4/24). SUCCESS! Sunnyvale/Santa Clara $48 add Downtown San Jose $51 add Milpitas $54 (accepted) I'm still bidding unsuccessfully on the Thursday night room. So far I'm up to $69. It's listed at $219. I'm thinking that I won't find a better deal than my $99 convention price for the one night. Kim
  7. I will be traveling to Santa Clara in April 2005. A check of the boards shows me that the Santa Clara Hilton 4* is the only hotel that comes up for that area, which is good for me---that's where I stayed last year. Booking directly with the hotel, I can get a convention-goers' discount of $99/night. I tried Priceline today (October 5). I began bidding at $43 and went up by increments of $3 until I ran out of rebids, topping out at $61 after 6 tries. I noticed that someone got this hotel in the spring of 2004 for $55. Should I try again in 72 hours and begin bidding at $62? Or should I wait until the date gets closer and start low again? Thanks, Kim
  8. Well, I didn't get the Marriott, but I did get the Hyatt Regency. We don't mind the very short drive. Our conference begins at 7 a.m. and a 5-minute drive sure beats 1-1/2+ hours in rush hour traffic! Here's how I bid: $25 Disneyland area $28 Disneyland area + Fountain Valley $31 Disneyland area + Fountain Valley + Garden Grove $33 Disneyland area + Fountain Valley + Garden Grove + Seal Beach Thanks for your help---I followed the instructions you gave on another thread. Kim
  9. I am going to a convention at the Anaheim Convention Center the week of Thanksgiving. I need a hotel for Sunday and Monday nights, 11/21-22. The Marriott is within walking distance, I know. Is there something I can do at Priceline to get this hotel? Or might I get another hotel that's close enough to walk?
