  1. As even 3-star hotels in Paris usually don't go for below 100 Euro/night, I might in this case (Paris) even consider 3-star bidding. But don't expect US 3star standards for 3stars in Paris. - I got the Mercure La Defense Parc here once for around 75 Euro incl. tax/charges (if I remember correctly) per night, while official (and online rates) for that place started at 160 Euros! (for a 3-star)

  2. Ooops.. was expecting (and hoping for) the Sheraton, but the Steigenberger came up.. interesting...

    200SG$ ~ 118 US$

Started with 150SG$, and went up in 5SG$ steps till I got the Steigenberger. (only bidding for 4star airport/south). This hotel is listed as a 5 star in German hotel list for Frankfurt.

Regular rates are 149-159 Euro/night including breakfast. So not huge savings.

  3. Well, this seems to be a similar case as the Renaissance Kuala Lumpur... it makes a large difference if you get an old room or one of the renovated, larger ones. I got a standard room apparently - and probably a single room (I didn't check back at the front desk, it was only for one night... and I was travelling alone) - which looked not very nice... 80s design and not very large. Just more like an average 3-star hotel room in Germany - though the Le Meridien Parkhotel is listed as a 5 star in Frankfurt hotel lists (Priceline 4 star). On their website, you'll find only photos of the new "art & tech" rooms which are apparently a lot larger, with plasma TV etc. - or photos of the "traditional" rooms in the old wing (also renovated, but in classic style). My room was in the first floor of the "new building" and according to the floormap all of the rooms there were of the same size, so maybe indeed really only single rooms on that floor (they say in their booking site that standard single rooms are 19sqm while standard double rooms are 29sqm - so that's why I assume I got a single room only). They have a small TV, minibar, trouser press, air condition in the room, so ok, but nothing special. The furniture looked a little bit worn out and there was only one chair. The view was towards the parking courtyard, but well, at least it was quiet there.

Check-In was very friendly and fast, no complain about that. Breakfast buffet costs 20 Euro but I didn't take it. The location of the hotel is ok, not far from central station but on a quite quiet square (Wiesenh

  4. The Frankfurt Marriott sells itself as "tallest hotel of central europe" and it's really huge. The view is probably the best of this hotel. I got a room in the 36th floor (of around 45 if I remember correctly), unfortunately with a view to the West (not towards city center), however was a great view, remembered me of the view from the Banyan Tree Bangkok (in terms of the height).

Check-In was fast and really friendly, no remark about Priceline, just "you're stay has been prepaid". The Marriott was quite busy that weekend, quite fully booked, a lot of groups and fair visitors, however I didn't have to wait long time for being checked in. I had a king-size-room, smoking, guaranteed (after having let my MR number add to the reservation before) however there was no smoking room (standard) available anymore, but they just gave me a non-smoking room and an ashtray was brought just after we entered the room (it's Europe :-) ). The room itself was really nothing special, quite small for a Marriott and the furniture the typical Marriott stuff, not very recent. No iron/ironing board in the room, no umbrella, bathrobes etc. (otherwise usually standard in Marriotts if I am not wrong) and no coffee/tea maker as well. The long chair was quite comfortable however, and there was a large desk. TV had the usual cable channels and pay TV. The bathroom was much nicer with a lot of mirrors and a nice scale than the room itself though there was no separate shower cubicle.

We had room service dinner and breakfast which both was quite nice though the dinner was a little bit too cold when it was served in the room. They had special offers too for pizzas with drinks for around 9 Euro (which looked ok to me).

The location of the hotel is not really in the city center, it's near the "Messeturm" (fair tower), the fairgrounds and the Maritim Hotel. There's a subway station nearby so (Bockenheimer Warte), so it's not really a big deal to get to the city center. Parking is available in the hotel but they charge 20 Euro per 24 hrs... !!! I found free parking places in the neighbourhood so no problem. Due to its height and the illuminated logo on the top, the Marriott is very easily to find and you can spot it from almost everywhere in Frankfurt.

To conclude: well, it's just an average Marriott hotel, nothing special, listed as 5star in German hotel classification, but more like a 4star (as listed in Priceline) IMO. The room lacks size and amenities, but the view is really cool. Service was friendly.

  5. Stayed here on night (Saturday/Sunday) after 2 nights in the Marriott Frankfurt; this Courtyard is really quite outside of Frankfurt city center (however near to the fair grounds). This is no problem at all if you're there by car; you'll find a parking easily just opposite of the hotel next to the large woods which begin on the other side of the road. The location seems quiet on the first view (thanks to the surrounding woods) but the road is however quite busy, so you will still hear traffic noise during the night if you get a room facing the road (which seem to be the largest part of the rooms). If you close the balcony door, its not a problem as the doors/windows are soundproof, but if you need fresh air during the night, it might be a little noise problem.

The hotel itself - being a Courtyard - doesn't offer a lot of services, no room service, no filled minibar (only an empty minibar, so a little refrigerator), not a lot of staff. Check-in was handled quite fast though a bit confusing.. (they thought that I was part of a travel group... which was recorded like that in their reservation computer); I had to fill in my address and everything though I had let my Marriott Rewards number being added to my booking previously (which appeared later-on correctly in my marriott profile). I was given a twin smoking room (as requested) on the 5th floor. Of course, just a standard room (they do have some studio rooms too), which was large enough but looked already a little bit run-down; but anyway looked just like a usual German 3-star-level-room. Nothing fancy, but everything was in order, a lot of channels (mostly German ones) on the TV, air-condition and a small bathroom (80s look) with shower cubicle. There was a balcony (without chairs) facing the road and the forest.

There are vending machines next to the front desk where you can buy drinks and snacks and small meals to take to the room; I didn't try the restaurant, which seemed to be mostly frequented by the travel tour guests (seems to be a group travel hotel too, with some busses standing outside); there is an internet area too but they charge around 6 Euro for 45 minutes. You'll find a "sundeck" on the highest floor and a small pool/fitness area on the 12 floor (if I remember correctly), but I didn't check it out.

To conclude: for the 45$ bid which I scored, it was a comfortable stay. It's just an average 3-star-hotel, nothing less, nothing more. The location is a bit bad if you don't have a car, otherwise it's no problem, 5 minutes by car to the Marriott Frankfurt and maybe 10 minutes (depending on traffic) to city center; highway (A648, exit Frankfurt-Rebstock) is not far from the hotel.

  9. Well, might have been sort of overbid... (was looking for Nov18-20 and Marriott Frankfurt showed now availability)... so bid up to 85$ for both days for West only, rejected, reduced to one night and upped to 90$ (my mistake).. and Marriott Frankfurt came up (didn't check before if it showed availability for the Friday night only), but well, I am content anyway.. regular rate says 149.-- EUR/night (though including breakfast).

  10. Well, it depends... for most of the cases I would tend to say Priceline is worth a try for 5stars in Hongkong... you often get a good deal there - though anyway the saving thanks to Priceline for HK are not as huge as for some other cities. For 4star hotels, I'd say, it depends on the period of the year and of the hotel itself (there's a difference between the Cosmpolitan, the Kowloon, the Eden etc..)... you should always check other sites too. Asiarooms is often doing better than results I achieved in Priceline.. but anyway, it's no problem, as I always got asiarooms offer's accepted for the best price guarantee of Priceline (so in the end I never paid more).

  11. If you could consider the Cosmopolitan Hotel, you MIGHT get that one as 4star in HK Island West for a fair price.. I think.. (It's usually sold for around 80$ +/- by asiarooms.com, so you coud be successful in the 60$ bid range in PL ... - if not you can take PLs best price guarantee). The location is maybe not such good as that one of the both Renaissance hotels in HK, but the rooms should be more up-to-date in the Cosmopolitan (though there's no pool in the Cosmo, if you care for that).
