  1. Is that at Columbus State University? I think you are fine near the airport in terms of safety. There are far worse areas in the city. A fair number of the hotels are situated on the main drag leading to the airport while others are just on the other side of the freeway. I lived two freeway exits down 270 from there and my mom worked at the nearby military base for a couple of years. The neighborhood gets questionable as you head further west from the airport on Broad Street. I-670 would give you pretty decent access to where you need to be. I would bank on getting an airport hotel and treat an Easton hotel as a bonus. The university area could still be just as convenient. I definitely wouldn't stay in Dublin for where you are going. Worthington/Polaris is has a nice shopping mall in the area and could be good for you, but still a potentially unpleasant trip on 71.
  2. Where in Columbus do you need to be? If you need to be downtown, I would probably recommend against the Dublin and Worthington zones because they are pretty far out and can be a pain to get into town. They may be less convenient than the airport hotels depending on traffic. If the priority is on price, then the downtown hotels may only superficially meet your price needs since they will in most cases charge a parking fee. The Crowne Plaza and Hyatt Regency are near the Arena district which is nice. A thought might be to try at the 3* level in the University area. Access from there isn't as bad, but many of the hotels will offer free parking and the cost is competitive.
  3. Bid $45 for a 3* hotel in the Dayton South zone. Rejected. Downgraded to $40 for a 2.5*. Accepted. This is pretty decent value for a decent hotel in the area. Used your PRICELINE link
  4. I guess I am late to the game but I wanted to respond as I am familiar with the property. Dayton Inn South is a former Hampton Inn that no longer carries a flag. Its not bad, a bit of wear on the place. Location is pretty decent and the staff was friendly last time I stayed there.
  5. This may be the first and last time you ever see this hotel on the board. Needed a sleep stop on the way to Ohio so don't really need luxury. The hotel may be part of the Wheeling area, so feel free to move if mods see fit. Tried bidding 2.5* in Wheeling, WV @ $50. Rejected. Added St. Clairsville which does not have a 2.5* hotel and increased bid to $53. Rejected. Downgraded to 2* bid $48, accepted. I am certain if people have more time to play around with this, they could do better. And the rate on Orbitz was about $69 plus tax, so there is some savings there. Used the PRICELINE link.
  6. I started bidding $50 for a 3* hoping for the Residence Inn or Hilton Garden. Priceline countered at $65. I decided to accept given my time constraints this week. I suspect that if I had been more persistent, I could have saved another few bucks but for one night, I'll live with not getting the very best deal possible. Received the Hyatt Regency. It's a nice place so absolutely no complaints. Used your PRICELINE link.
  7. Needed a stopover hotel for a drive west. Although I had a free re-bid, time is short so I decided to go in at $50 which is a hair more than others have booked at. Bid was successful. Not sure it makes any difference, as a point of reference, Hotwire was $60 for a 3* in the same zone (which is either the Four Points or Courtyard). Used the site's PRICELINE link to book.
  8. Reserved two rooms for 10/31 - 11/2, $32, Got the Homestead Suites in Horsham. Its not the pinnacle of luxury but it will do. If I had gone for 3*, my guests could have wound up in Ft. Washington, which is a little bit of a drive. I did use your PRICELINE link to make the bid.
  9. Thanks for your assistance. I should have checked myself on those free re-bid zones. Priceline upgraded me to a 3.5*, Crowne Plaza Dulles Airport, which is in the Dulles North - Herndon-Reston Zone for $45. The hotel has free wi-fi and free parking all of which are pluses. Again, my request was for three rooms, one night, 10/30 - 10/31. I did use your PRICELINE link to make the bid. I also have to make a Priceline reservation for a room near Philadelphia. I'll start that under the appropriate forum.
  10. I am sorry if this is a dumb question, which zone do I add as my re-bid zone?
  11. I think at this point, looking for the cheapest 3* in those zones.. I know Tysons or Fairfax are probably worth a little more, but I am running low on time and don't want to mess around too much. And its only one night.
  12. Looking for October 30 for one night. Three rooms. Zones (preference in this order) Fairfax Tysons Corner-Falls Church Dulles South Dulles North Springfield Prefer to spend up to about $60 for a 3*. I had looked at some prior bids and I don't think I will have to go higher than that.
  13. I have family coming into DC and I am going to need 3 rooms. All of DC seems to be booked solid with the Jon Stewart rally that day so Northern Virginia is it. I cannot use HOTWIRE this trip. My dad is in a wheelchair and PRICELINE, as I understand it, will work to accomodate disabled needs or offer a refund whereas HOTWIRE will not. Saw some decent prices on Hotwire for the 3* and 4* hotels around Dulles. Wondering if you think I can use that as a guide to bid in PRICELINE? Are there free re-bid zones in this area? Any strategies you can offer? Thanks.
  14. A family member just asked me to book this for them: $48 for August 21-24, 2010. 2.5* Amenities - Smoke Free - Business Center - Laundry - Pool - High Speed Internet Holiday Inn Express Raleigh South West - NC State
  15. I tried $45 and got it first time. I wonder if I could have gotten in a bit lower, but this close to the travel date, I just wanted to wrap it up. I have stayed at pretty much every hotel in the Miamisburg area. This one is fine, free continental breakfast, free wi-fi. Since I know it matters, the hotel is 100% smoke free.
  16. Uh, not sure. Swapping everything between work email and Iphone and home email, something went south. But I was searching on 7/2-7/5 Anyway, just got the Hilton Garden Inn - PVD on Thurber Street for 7/2/10 through 7/5/10. Tried Sunday @ $40 - rejected added E. Providence/Seekonk @ $43 - rejected. Tried Monday @ $45 - Priceline counteroffered $55. I passed. added E. Providence/Seekonk @49 - rejected. Bid today @ $50 - accepted I could have kept messing around in the $40's for a few days but I hate to take chances around holiday weekends. Might end up paying $60. Stayed in this hotel before. Neighborhood is a little funky, but its a nice property. Free parking and wi-fi but no free breakfast. Looks like its a bit more than most folks pay for this property, but not a lot more and its Independence Day weekend. All in all, it's a bargain to me. Used your PRICELINE link.
  17. I have been looking around for hotels in RI for July 4th weekend on both HOTWIRE and PRICELINE. My main target is Priceline. But I set the trip tracker function in Hotwire just to see what comes up. So I got this email. "Recently, you found a 2-night stay at a Newport hotel from Jul. 2 to Jul. 5 for $132*. We just spotted a lower price." The price was $105 for a 4* hotel in Newport. That's a pretty sweet deal given what most guys are advertising. So when I went to the website, that price was nowhere to be found. It was the same rates I have seen before. My question is: when you get this email what is happening here? 1. Is this a real rate that someone booked for the exact dates that just popped up on Hotwire and was nabbed? 2. Is this a rate that I could get for other dates and they are just feeding me a line that this rate is available? If its the first answer, I was wondering if Hotwire posts new rates at a certain time and other buyers are jumping in at that moment? Does anyone know what time that is that Hotwire would post up new rates or is it completely random?
  18. Looking to stay in the Providence Airport Area 7/2 to 7/5. Did some research, the lowest published price for that star level and weekend is $76 at the Sheraton Providence Airport. I am guessing that Coventry - West Warwick would be a free re-bid zone. Newport-Jamestown is effectively a free re-bid zone since the odds of getting a hotel in Newport for that price is practically zero. Wondering if I can score something in the $40-$50 range.
  19. Finally got around to bidding after a long work week. Scored Holiday Inn Long Beach - Downtown for $43 for the nights outlined. This is one of the hotels I targeted in my search. Free parking and free internet are a plus. Used your PRICELINE link, thanks for the help. Now on to the rental car.
  20. Looking to book a room in the Long Beach Airport Area. After surveying the prices obtained here and reviews on Trip Advisor, I am pretty comfortable staying at the LGB Airport area hotels, Holiday Inn or Residence Inn. Looking to spend up to $50 a night. Can you advise on where to start and how many free re-bids I can get?
  21. Received this hotel from Priceline in the past. Usually never fails at $30. Almost always fails at $29. Decent enough place near the Dayton Mall. Used the PRICELINE link to start this bid.
  22. Got this for Thanksgiving weekend to visit the folks. I think I could have scored a better star level downtown for this price, but this is a couple of minutes from my parents' house. I bid $30 yesterday because I can usually score the Extended Stay America-Dayton South at that price. PL countered at $38. I passed since I needed to verify the star levels of some other hotels in that neighborhood. Came back today at $33 and got it. Not the most impressive hotel, but its cheap and its where I need to be. Used your PRICELINE link on the page.
  23. Ras, thereuare is correct in that Airport/Stadium is the closest zone. There is one hotel that is close to Sports Complex, the Holiday Inn. (There is also an EconoLodge on Penrose Ave that is probably 1*) Everything else is by the airport which is a little bit of a drive. I think you can get the SEPTA bus from the airport to the stadiums but its not terribly convenient if you aren't bringing a car. You can always cab it but I think that would eat up your savings from using PRICELINE. You might as well just book the Holiday Inn direct. And if you do want to visit downtown or other sights. from the airport, its a pricey ride on the regional rail from the airport. If I was going to suggest anything I would tell you to stay downtown and take the subway to the stadium. They run express trains from City Hall station and it saves you from the nightmarish drive that I have to make on football Sundays.
