  1. so does that mean i will be checked in to a room that has not been cleaned? and where can i read these posts you referred to regarding the dirty rooms?
  2. thanks for the BART tip, sounds like the way to go. Exactly which workers are on strike...maintenance, housekeeping? Any chance it will be resolved by Thursday?
  3. TBQ, thanks for the info...we'll definitely check it out. by the way, we won't be renting a car and i was wondering what the best way is to get from SFO airport to the Hyatt. should we just jump in a cab, or are there shuttle buses or some other options. the hotel website didn't really give too many details. also, anyone happen to know what "In-room refreshment centers" is?
  4. yes, zone, star rating, and dates all correct. customer favorite too.
  5. Thanks for all your help. I went with hotwire and got the Hyatt Regency for $109/night. I'm looking forward to my trip! Thanks again to everyone here...I do appreciate your time and effort.
  6. thanks for the info. i was reading some of the trip advisor reviews on the Hyatt Regency and some people were complaining about the hotel being in a bad location, saying that it took them a long time to get to a lot of the tourist sites...is that correct?
  7. thanks. any locals have a preference? they also show a customer favorite 3.5* USE hotel with the same amenities for $87/night. i couldn't really get any specific info from the reviews though.
  8. assuming you are correct, with the price difference being negligable which one would you choose? from what i've heard the Westin is a great hotel. i don't know much about the Argent.
  9. the embarcadero $111/night lists Restaurant(s), Fitness Center, Business Center. one of the reviews said: Our stay in the Financial District was wonderful. The rooms were pretty clean and well maintained. The cable cars were located right near the hotel. the USE $108/night lists Restaurant(s), Fitness Center, Business Center. "The grand, gorgeous hotel is a San Fransisco classic. The service was great and the health club was excellent. Our room was beautiful." "This hotel was in a fantastic location - great shopping and restaurants nearby and right on the trolley line. The interior was absolutely first class. Everything about it was grand and elegant, from the lobby to the room itself. The room was tastefully decorated with plenty of extras. We couldn't believe the steal we got on Hotwire."
  10. i just took a look at hotwire. for those 4 nights (Oct 7-11) it came back with a 4* Embarcadero Area for $111/night and a 4* Union Square East for $108/night. is the Embarcadero hotel the Hyatt Regency? how do you know? any idea what the USE hotel is? i'm ready to pull the trigger at either of these prices...i would just like to know i'm choosing the better hotel. thanks.
  11. i'm starting to get a bit worried about my hotel plans. it might be time for me to lower my star rating. how would you rank these 3 zones according to their 3 star properties? and what would you suggest i bid to get 4 consecutive nights? thanks again. USE USW FW
  12. any new bidding strategies for these dates? also, anyone have a suggestion for a good "cancellable" backup reservation? things aren't looking too good as i was just shot down once again, this time bidding $100 at both USE and USW. :)
  13. i guess i'll keep trying. anyone have a suggestion for a good "cancellable" backup reservation?
  14. no go at $70 or $75 for USW. :) shot down with a bid of $80 too. talk about frustrating.
  15. thanks...i guess i'll just go for 4* USW at $70 and see what i get. hopefully i don't get the Hilton.
  16. thanks for the info. does the amount you bid have any influence on the hotel you get? for example you say the USW Hilton isn't so great...if i were to bid $75 instead of $70 would that increase my odds of getting a better hotel? i really don't understand how the inventory is assigned to bidders.
  17. i don't have anything against USW...it's just that i had been told that USE was the best area to stay. it's been a long time since i've been to San Fran so i'm really just going with other people's recommendations. i won't have a car so i'd like to be centrally located for all the action (touristy stuff.) thereuare, very good suggestion that i make a backup reservation in case the whole priceline thing doesn't work out for me. any suggestions for a decent hotel at a reasonable price?
  18. Yes, i am ok with splitting the bid...i tried that (see my post above) but it didn't work either.
  19. Tried USE again just now at $75 but no luck. I'll keep trying. Thanks for all the help and encouragement!
  20. do they email me the counteroffer, or does it show on the screen after i've been rejected? i'm sorry i didn't take your advice a couple days ago...i just got shot down with $86/$90/$93/$95. i then took thereuare's suggestion and tried splitting my bid...but still got shot down for fri/sat/sun with the same bids. :) if i decide to give up on the 4* USE zone what would you suggest i go for next? 4* USW, 3* USE, or 3* FW?
  21. you guys definitely weren't kidding. just tried again and no luck for those 4 nights at $77/$81/$85/$87/$89. no wonder i was never a priceline fan. do the prices generally get better or worse as you get closer to your arrival date? i guess i may have to start thinking about other options...such as splitting my dates, going for broke and bidding over $90 (thesilb do you still think that $93 bid wins?), or downgrading to a 3*.
  22. I just tried again (had my girlfriend try on her account) and still no luck. I bid $66, 70, 72, 75, and 80. I don't want to go much higher as I've seen reports of people having successful bids of $70 for the following weekend. Guess I'll try again tomorrow night on my account. thesilb, how do you remove zones after you've been rejected? They remain grayed out on my screen when I go to re-bid.
  23. thanks for the help. interesting technique, i'll definitely give it a shot. do you think the prices are jacked up because it's a holiday weekend?
  24. i re-bid a 4th time at $78 and got shot down again. what would you suggest for my last re-bid?
  25. 4*. I read a few threads here before I started bidding and it seemed like people had been successful at around $70. At first I was kind of surprised I got shut out with a $75 bid in October...but now I'm thinking it may have been due to the fact it's the Columbus day weekend. Thanks for the welcome.
