  1. Thanks for the reply. Interestingly, the $84/night Hot.wire hotel showed up on the regular view but not the easy view, meaning I couldn't get access to the extended amenities. Either way, I ended up bidding $55/night for 3* on Priceline from 3/31/14-4/3/14 and got the Best Western Seville Plaza. Not a bad deal all things considered. I don't see that listed in the Priceline list for Country Club Plaza in KC, so hopefully this update will be helpful for this excellent website. Thanks so much!
  2. Hi, thanks for writing. I am searching for 1 adult for 3/31/14-4/3/14 in Kansas City, MO (Country Club Plaza) and I am still seeing the 3-star hotel for $84 per night (regardless of whether I search for 1 or 2 adults). There's another 3-star hotel for $70/night with parking, breakfast, internet, pet friendly, fitness, business center; this matches up pretty well to the Holiday Inn Express (which I don't want). I am getting a message saying "Book fast! the last person booked the Best Western Plus Seville Plaza Hotel." But this hotel doesn't have a pool, which is listed in the Hot.wire hotel I'm interested at $84/night. Thanks.
  3. I want to use Priceline to get a 3* hotel in KC. I need to be within walking distance of the Intercontinental Kansas City at the Plaza. I would be fine with either the Holiday Inn at the Plaza or Courtyard my Marriott KC Country Club Plaza, which are the two 3* hotels listed on the Priceline hotel lists. My concern, however, is that I might end up with the Holiday inn Express KC Westport Plaza, which is too far away. This is listed as a 2.5* on Priceline but as a 3* on Hotwire. I know the star system differs, but basically the question is: if I bid for a 3* on Priceline, what is the chance that I end up with the Holiday Inn Express? Thanks!
  4. Amenities include parking, internet, pet friendly, fitness, pool, restaurant, business center, laundry. I *think* it's the Holiday Inn at the Plaza, but this is listed on the hotel list as having restaurant, pool, fitness, and tennis; the hotel I am trying to ID does not have tennis. Thanks!
  5. Just letting you know that I posted an extensive San Juan Doubletree Hotel Review in the hotel reviews section. Overall, it was good value for $100/night so I think it's a viable hotel option for San Juan.
  6. The Doubletree Hilton in San Juan is a newly renovated hotel that is located at the border of Santurce and Condado. I stayed here with my significant other for two nights at the end of January 2009, after booking through Hotwire for $100/night (thanks to Betterbidding.com for identifying the property!). Here are my thoughts about the property: Rooms: The room that we booked had a single king bed. The decor inside was beautiful, at least if you like ultra-modern styling (geometric shapes, dark browns/black, metal lamps, mirrors - think a loft in Manhattan and you'll get the idea). The bathroom had a shower but no bathtub, which wasn't a big deal to us. The bed was very comfortable and there was a TV and refrigerator included in the room. I will say that the room wasn't particularly big - it would have been fine for one person, but it felt slightly cramped for two people. Facilities: There is free Internet in your room as well as a business center with three computers that have internet access and a printer. The hotel seems to be popular for business meetings, as there are a number of conference rooms. The pool looked nice, though we didn't use it. Food: At the time we stayed, the hotel's restaurant and bar hadn't opened yet, so we had a complimentary continental breakfast that featured juice, coffee, pastries, toast, and fruit. It wasn't anything special, but management told us that when the restaurant opens (around February 2009), they will be improving the breakfast. Service: Check-in was smooth. We were offered a delicious chocolate chip cookie right out of the oven during check-in. The staff spoke good English and were very helpful in making recommendations. Parking: Valet parking is available, but we chose to park in the hotel garage for $15/night with unlimited in/out privileges. The garage is right around the corner from the hotel. Location: The location is something of a mixed bag in my opinion. On the one hand, the hotel is very easy to find from Interstate 26 because there is a clearly marked exit for Avenida De Diego, the road on which the hotel is located. Also, you can easily walk to Condado and the beach in 10 minutes. Finally, there is a gas station and 24-hour supermarket right across the street. The problem is that the immediate neighborhood of the hotel is, for lack of a better word, gentrifying. There are a few run-down looking restaurants with barred windows across the street, and if you go about two blocks east on Calle Loiza, you end up in Ocean Park, which is a somewhat rough part of town. During our trip, we happened to drive west on Calle Loiza from Isla Verde through Ocean Park to the hotel - it was quite striking to go from an economically depressed area to seeing the beautiful Doubletree, along with its neighboring super-luxury condomonium complex. In general, we didn't have a major issue with the location because we had a car. I don't think most people will have a problem either, but if it's important to you to be in a super nice part of town, you might want to look elsewhere. Cost/value: The rack rate for the hotel was somewhere around $210/night. We booked through Hotwire and ended up paying $100/night, plus $10/night for tax (which was added at check-out). At that price point, this hotel is a fantastic value. At $200, though, the value is more debatable. If you look at the price for hotel rooms during high tourist season for Puerto Rico (i.e. winter), you'll find that $200 is about average for a 3-star hotel. Personally, I'm a budget-minded traveler so I wouldn't pay $200 for this hotel, but others may have different opinions. Overall: We had a good stay in this hotel and would definitely stay here again, but only if we were able to get a discounted rate through HOTWIRE or PRICELINE. The hotel will continue to improve as the renovations are finished, so you might want to call before you book to see if you can get a status update.
  7. Hey, just confirming that the $79 3-star hotel on Hotwire in San Juan is indeed the Doubletree...got a room for $100/night. Not too bad, considering the normal rate is more than double that. I used the 2 adult/0 children option with the listing that didn't have a pool among the amenities and still got the Doubletree, so I guess the moral of the story is that Hotwire doesn't always have the exact amenities listed. [At least now I don't have to make up an excuse now about how my imaginary kid got sick and had to be left in the US]. Thanks for your help (I used your HOTWIRE link, BTW).
  8. Thanks for the info. I did the search for 2 adults and 1 child, and I got a 3-star for $79/month with business center, high-speed internet, and pool. It wasn't for $82/month. Do you think this is still the Doubletree? Also, does it matter that there isn't a child traveling with us? Thanks!
  9. Also, the amenities are: High-speed internet access Business center
  10. Hi, I'm brand new to this forum but am very impressed with all the helpful information available. I'm trying to identify a 3* hotel in San Juan at $79/night, Jan 29-31. It's so much less expensive than some of the other three star (and even 2.5 star) listings that it makes me wonder whether there's something wrong with the hotel. Please let me know if you have any information! Thanks so much.
