Why are car rental prices so expensive at the Punta Gorda airport, even during the off season?? Would I be better to take a taxi & rent from an off site location?

The lowest price I could get was $998 through AARP with a discount. Thank you for your reply. It's good to be getting old.

I'm looking to rent any size vehicle from DEN to Santa Fe (any where drop off) from July 3 - 11. Can't find anything less than $1200. What's going on? I could purchase a car for that price.

Tried to get a Mini Van from PRICELINE for 4 adults and 2 children under 5 who will need car seats. Got regected for $24 and $27 for a Mini Van. Rebid for a Full size car and got a Chevrolet Impala from National for $18/day. Hope all goes well. Didn't try lower bid. Hope we all fit. Pick up at the airport.
