  1. I am hoping you can help me with a bidding strategy for Lake Buena Vista area. It seems like some of the 3.5 stars are nice so I am willing to go to that star level to get a good deal. I am not really sure where to start bidding so I will rely upon you for the best possible deal. I do not want to go over 90.00 if that is possible. I don't mind going to another area of disney. I am interested in a place that will give me easy access/shuttle to downtown disney. Thanks for any help.
  2. I stayed in this hotel two different times on this last vacation. At the beginning of my trip we stayed two nights in the tower rooms. The rooms were large. I had a king size and my boys had another room with two doubles. I had no trouble getting what i asked for at the front desk. The view was nothing great but I could see a little of the ocean. We had no time in the rooms so that was not a big deal. The beds and pillows were so comfortable. That was very nice. The bathroom was mid to large with a large shower stall and all glass enclosure and rain shower head or hand held to use. it was very nice. The sink was dated and the marble was chipped but I didn't mind that. The rug also had stains. It needed replaced. The lobby and grounds were beautiful. Went to the Pina Colada club for a late night meal. hot dogs for the boys and tostones for me, beer and Pina Colada = 46.00. expensive even though the hot dogs were foot longs. The starbucks in the hotel was high too. We did not eat at any of the other restaurants. The staff was very nice. Had a great concierge by the name of Eliot who set my navigator to get to the rain forest and other locales. They all tried to help get us around the island which is not easy since the gps only works with coordinates. The second night, the last night of our trip we went back and got one room in the main building. It had a more updated bathroom, but it was smaller. A nifty shower head though that had some kind of spray blast. I had never seen that before. My sons liked it. Again, the view was not great. We had valet parking for 20.00 a stay and could come and go as often as we wanted. For 75 a night this was a gem. I wish we had had more time to stay in the hotel and pool and beach. It really was nice, but the island was calling and we decided that was more what we wanted. I didn't get honors points for my stay, except on the resort fee.
  3. I would just like to say that my stay at the Caribe Hilton was wonderful. It is a beautiful property. A little dated in some of the rooms but very nice in the grounds and the staff was terrific. I will post a review in that section. This was a great deal.
  4. Ok, this is the first time this ever happened to me. I had decided to bid on a room the last night of my stay so I could be close to the airport for an early morning flight. I saw that someone on the forum won La Concha so I was bidding 4 stars to win either La Concha or the Sheraton. I knew perhaps there would be another 4 star out there, but really expected the win to be in that star range. Oddly, everytime I went to rebid they automatically checked "resort" so I would have to start all over to pick another zone to rebid and make sure that all that was selected was 4 star hotels. After my first bid they asked me to go up to 87.00 which I ignored. After 4 bids i won the Hilton which shocked me as its a resort. I called Priceline, but after some rigamarole there wasn't anything to be done about it. I am not too disappointed with my win, but I was wondering, has this happened to anyone else out there? Do you think I would have gotten a 4* had I gone up to 87.00? I used the PRICELINE links here.
  5. Stayed Friday June 1, 2012. The check in was easy. A young staff both courteous and professional. The went the extra mile to get info on the Jazz festival band sites for us. Really nice! Got the room I requested the day before. The hotel was clean and the beds were heavenly. The room was huge. We did pay a high price for the parking, but we were able to keep the car in the garage after check out till 11:00 pm that night as we stayed in town. My friends opted to park in the convention center overnight which is right beside the hotel. overnight parking - 5.00! The Westin has a perfect location right on Penn Ave between the point and the strip so walking anywhere is easy - no more than eight blocks either way. They have an outstanding seafood restaurant also. We had sushi there at 11:30pm. It was terrific. A great experience at the Westin and a terrific bargain through Priceline at 70.00!
  6. I won the Caribe Hilton for 75.00. I didn't want this hotel as it seems out of the way, but I know it used to be a beautiful place. I hope everyone likes it. The price is definitely right. Thank you for all of your help! I really appreciate this board and the confidence you all give me in bidding. I'll post my win over in the priceline section. For some reason I mistakenly started this here in hotwire.
  7. The second day I tried and started at 60.00. They offered a hotel at 80.00 but I ignored it and continued bidding till I reached 70.00. Won the Westin! This hotel is really nice and right in the middle of town. A great win. total is 87.68 with tax. I used this site's PRICELINE link and their help with bidding. Thank you!!
  8. Ok, followed your bidding pattern and won The Westin at 70.00! Super excited to win this great hotel. At 60.00 they asked me to go to 80.00 to bid, but I ignored it. Glad I did. Thank you for your help. I did use your PRICELINE link. I will start a new topic with the win.
  9. I don't think I want the Sheraton. yes 100.00 is my max bid. I will be resorts only. Thank you for the heads up on the per room bid. That is an oversight I might have made.
  10. I am not really sure. I was hoping to get two for the price of one. la Concha going for 199 on some sites. I suppose that being said would it be unrealistic to try to stay around/under 200 for final bid?
  11. I need to book a room with two older sons. I was just going to go with one room that had queens and pay outright at the Conrad for a low rate, but it would be nice to have 2 rooms and/or a nicer hotel. I would love to get La Concha which seems to be the only 4* in San Juan or the Marriott Stelaris or Intercontinental Resort. I know I may still get the Conrad in bidding as that is what seems to be coming up so any help would be appreciated. Thank you!
  12. Hi, I just tried to bid for a 4 star hotel for Friday June 1 in Pittsburgh. I started with 60.00 and they offered a deal if I went to 81.00. I declined and continued adding bidding zones that did not have 4 star hotels. I bid 5 more zones adding 3.00 per bid. I am at 75.00 and decided to stop. Would it be better to leave it for the night and start again tomorrow with a higher than 60.00 bid and see what happens? Or should I keep adding zones tonight. I feel I might need to go past 81.00 at this point. Any advice would be helpful. Thank you!
  13. Darn, I should have also confirmed by email. I may just continue to follow up by email to also have that written down.
  14. Just wanted to add that I called the hotel and was able to reserve a queen bed. I asked for either a king or queen. The gentleman was very nice and did not mention priceline at all. Very happy with the service so far at the Algonquin.
  15. I have been trying your recommended strategy off and on once a week, since September with no luck. The last two weeks I was trying a little more often but not going above 150.00 and still no luck until tonight. I started with the MTE, MTW, ESB at 130.00 and right away they told me to up my bid to 165.00 to get a hotel which I did not do. Kept bidding till 145.00 and got the Algonquin like everyone else here. Looks like a nice hotel. I just hope I can get a queen or king bed. Thanks so much for all your help. This site is invaluable. 145.00 for 3 nights = 435.00 104.46 taxes total = 539.46 A far cry from their best non refundable rate of 297.00 a night for a double bed. Also, I used your PRICELINE link.
  16. amenties are restaurant, internet, exercise room, business center, tennis courts nearby thanks for your help
  17. Thank you for your help Thereuare. I followed your bidding strategy and was rejected up to 175.00.
  18. I need some help with the bidding strategy. I read the directions over in the other forum, but I just want to make sure I am doing this right. When you say add a rebid zone, do you mean a zone that doesn't have the star level I'm looking for? like in my case, Brooklyn? Or do you mean bid MTE at 110.00 then CPS at 110.00, then ESB at 110.00. Thanks for helping.
  19. Thank you so much! I'll let you all know how it goes.
  20. Thank you for the info on the shows. I am guessing that for the most part my areas of choice are all about the same as far as convenience to sights. If not let me know and order my selections according to convenience and value. I will take the advice to drop UWS till last. Right now I would rather have the best deal, so my max bid will be 175.00. This feels low, but I can get a 3-1/2* (Dream) from PRICELINE for 209.00 without bidding. Also, with the noise level in TS do you think other locations are more desirable like ESB. ESB seems farther away from center, but you would know better. Its been years since I have been to NY. Thanks for all your help.
  21. I want to bid on a four * and the areas I think I want are in this order MTW, MTE, CPS, TS, ISB, UWS We will be doing most of our activities in midtown area (Wicked, Blue Man Group), although we will move around some. Do you think these are a good order of areas? Are some of these better than others as far as winning bids? I would love to get in under 200.00 but willing to go to 225.00 all in. Thanks for any help.
  22. Is it too early to bid for a hotel in Manhattan for April 28-May1, 2011?
  23. Starting bidding weeks ago at 40.00. Went up 3 dollars every bid till I got to 84.00. The best price I found for Residence Inn that week was 159.00. Stay two nights: 168.00 taxes/fees: 24.46 Total: 194.46 I used the PRICELINE link here.
  24. Thank you for all your replies. They are helpful. I had considered the two room PRICELINE bid and am going to check out the hotel options and consider that. I will also check out the HOTWIRE suggestion. Thanks again.
