  1. I splurged and decided to keep bidding! I bid up to $150 in $10 increments. Offer accepted at $150. I got The Henry. :) The 3.5* and lower hotels on Priceline don't really appeal to me. I was about to book the new Holiday Inn Express for $110/night, and I decided I was willing to pay a bit more. Details: Offer price: $150.00/night Number of rooms: 1 room Number of nights: 2 nights Room subtotal: $300.00 Taxes & fees: $50.82 Total charged today: $350.82 Rack rate on The Henry is $224/night + fees for these dates.
  2. I just did some more bidding. I didn't do the backtrack thing, but I resumed today at $110, and continued in $5 increments all the way up to $130. Still no luck. I used the PRICELINE link.
  3. I'll be in Dearborn, MI for work on 11/28/16 - 11/30/16. I'm interested to stay at "The Henry" or "The Dearborn Inn, A Marriott Hotel." The current retail price for these hotels on these dates is in the $200-220 range for these dates. I started my bidding at $55, and I increased my bid in $5 increments. When I ran out of free zones, I was at $105, but my offer wasn't accepted. I'd be willing to pay up to $120 or so. I guess I'll try again tomorrow and see if Priceline accepts an offer of $110, $115, or $120. Priceline also has a $158 Express Deal for a 4-star hotel in "Dearborn - Allen Park - Melvindale Area" for these dates. That's a bit out of my price range, though.
  4. I'm heading to Laguna Seca this weekend to drive my car on the racetrack. Salinas is the most convenient place for me to stay, though Monterey/Carmel would also be acceptable. Since Salinas is usually cheaper than Monterey, I started my bidding with Salinas. Bid history: $45 2.5* Salinas $50 2.5* Salinas + Carmel Valley $55 2.5* Salinas + Carmel Valley + Carmel $60 2.5* Salinas + Carmel Valley + Carmel + Monterey Courtyard By Marriott Salinas Monterey Room subtotal: $120.00 Taxes & fees: $24.66 Total charged today: $144.66 Savings: You saved 59% I have stayed in this Courtyard before -- IIRC, it's pretty nice. I used the PRICELINE link.
  5. I'm happy with this deal! I used the PRICELINE link. Bidding history: $60 3* Mountain View + Palo Alto + Sunnyvale $70 3* Mountain View + Palo Alto + Sunnyvale + (West San Jose Free Zone) The rack rate for these dates is $111/night. Details: $70.00 /per room night Taxes and Fees $41.16 Total Charges $251.16 Wild Palms Hotel - a Joie de Vivre Hotel 910 East Fremont Avenue Sunnyvale, CA 94087
  6. I'm going to Thunderhill Raceway in Willows, CA this weekend. I had been thinking that the only decent hotel in town is the Holiday Inn Express. No hotels were listed for Willows on BetterBidding, but I figured the Holiday Inn Express would probably be the only 2.5* choice in Willows (or, it could just be a Priceline dead zone). The Holiday Inn Express rack rate is $120 for this weekend, so I figured $60 would be a good PRICELINE opening bid. Ended up getting the Baymont Inn on my opening bid -- cool, I didn't realize this even existed. :) Rack rate for the Baymont is $100 with tax, and I'm paying $74 with tax, so it's an OK but not special deal. But, I'm happy to have discovered a new property. Next time I go to Willows/Thunderhill, I'll probably start out around $40 and increment my way up. Baymont Inn & Suites Willows 2½ star Willows 199 North Humboldt Avenue , Willows, CA 95988 Room Subtotal: $60.00 Taxes & Fees: $13.94 Total Charged to Card: $73.94
  7. I'm getting ready to do some bidding in the Chicago Suburbs region on Priceline. It appears that there are no hotels in the BetterBidding hotel list in these zones: Aurora Hillside-Westchester Lake Zurich McHenry County Does this make sense, and am I missing anything? Sorry if this is a silly question -- I was just hoping someone could check my work on this before I start bidding.
  8. Bidding history (all of these are free zones except Santa Monica and Brentwood): 3.5* $85 Santa Monica + Brentwood (counter offer for $134) $92 + Culver City $100 + Inglewood $107 + Lawndale (counter offer for $134) $115 + USC 3* $95 Santa Monica + Brentwood (counter offer for $134) $105 + Inglewood (counter offer for $134) $115 + Lawndale $125 + USC -- ACCEPTED Offer Price: $125.00 Rooms: 1 Nights: 2 Room Subtotal: $250.00 Taxes & Fees: $48.34 Total Charged to Card: $298.34 Marina Del Rey Marriott 3.5 star Santa Monica - Marina Del Rey 4100 Admiralty Way, Marina Del Rey, CA 90292 I'm driving from Berkeley to Santa Monica, working for 2 days straight, and driving back. This hotel has pretty good reviews; I think it'll be a great place to relax during what downtime I will have. I used the PRICELINE link.
  9. Amenities that Hotwire mentioned prior to making the reservation: Free Parking Free Breakfast Free Internet Indoor pool(s) Fitness Center Business Center Laundry Facilities (self-service)
  10. 105 Talmadge Street, Kearney,NE,68847 Rate per night: $61.00 Nights: 1 Rooms: 1 Tax recovery charges & fees: $14.77 Subtotal: $75.77 Rack rate for this date is $89. Booked this on the road (from the passenger seat) on a Berkeley-to-Chicago road trip.
  11. Has this Ramada Inn been changed to 2.5* instead of 2*? The Kearney Ramada Inn Northeast is in the Priceline hotel list as a 2.5*.
  12. Does this still work? When I look at the bidding options for Watsonville, I don't see Salinas. Instead, I have to use the "priceline also has hotels in the nearby Monterey - Salinas, CA area go there now" link in order to get a Salinas checkbox.
  13. I realized that I forgot to post this win last year. Having more data on the forum can't hurt though. :) Bidding history $50 Bloomington-Normal 3* $50 Bloomington-Normal 2.5* [success] In retrospect, I'm not sure why I didn't use Bloomington Heights as a free zone to rebid, say, $55 on a 3*. I think this was just last minute and I didn't put much thought into it. Or, maybe Bloomington Heights is new? It doesn't sound so familiar to me. *shrug* I was happy with this Baymont. The room was well decorated and well lit, and I remember the bed being really comfortable. 5/23/12 - 5/27/12 Baymont Inn & Suites Bloomington/Normal (2.5*) 604 1/2 Iaa Drive Bloomington, IL 61701 309-662-2800 Room Cost (avg. per room, per night): $50.00 (USD) Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 4 Room Subtotal: $200.00 (USD) Taxes and Fees: $34.60 (USD) Total Room Cost: $234.60 (USD)
  14. Was aiming for a 3* in City Hall or Bugis areas of Singapore. There is no 2* in City Hall or Bugis, so selecting 2* serves as a free rebid. Naturally, a new/undocumented 2* could pop up, but I was willing to risk it. The strategy was essentially this: "Bid low on 3* today, bid high on 5* today. Then, tomorrow, the previous 5* bidding price becomes today's 3* bidding price." No luck though. Decided to give up after $160, because I saw cheaper rack rates on agoda.com that met my criteria. I booked Hotel Grand Pacific on agoda.com for roughly $160 before taxes and fees. Still, thought it'd be worth posting my bidding data. Day 1 (Wednesday, 7/4/12) $100 3* City Hall + Bugis $110 2* City Hall + Bugis Day 2 (Thursday, 7/5/12) $120 3* City Hall + Bugis [rebid offer for $163] $130 2* City Hall + Bugis $140 5* City Hall + Bugis + (free zones: East Coast) $150 5* City Hall + Bugis + (free zones: East Coast, Financial District) $155 5* City Hall + Bugis + (free zones: East Coast, Financial District, Riverside) Day 3 (Friday, 7/6/12) $150 3* City Hall + Bugis [rebid offer for $183] $160 2* City Hall + Bugis Used the PRICELINE link.
  15. Sorry to resurrect an old thread. Just wanted to thank AaronJB for his advice to go to Flat Top. We did indeed eat at Flat Top, and it's probably the best Flat Top franchise that I've been to. :) Oh yeah, and we also visited the Whole Foods.
  16. Bidding History: Day 1 (7/8/11): REJECTED: $60 3* Downtown + Granville Entertainment District REJECTED: $65 3* Downtown + Granville Entertainment District + (Langley free zone) Day 2 (7/9/11): REJECTED: $70 3* Downtown + Granville Entertainment District REJECTED: $75 3* Downtown + Granville Entertainment District + (Langley free zone) Day 3 (7/11/11): REJECTED: $80 3* Downtown + Granville Entertainment District REJECTED: $85 3* Downtown + Granville Entertainment District + (Langley free zone) Day 4 (7/12/11) ACCEPTED: $90 3* Downtown + Granville Entertainment District Room Subtotal: US$180.00 Taxes & Fees: US$36.86 Total Charged to Card: US$216.86 I'm attending a conference at the Vancouver Convention Centre, so this location is great! :)
  17. I was very impressed with the Hilton Orrington. The hotel was less than a block from many restaurants, boutiques, and other businesses. I found some free parking a few blocks from the hotel and only used my car a couple of times all week. (The Orrington's valet parking is $22/day.) The hotel itself was grand, clean, and tidy. The room came with a large TV and--my favorite surprise--a keyboard, mouse, and ethernet cable ready to plug my laptop into. All in all, this stay was worth every penny. Thanks to thereuare and AaronJB for helping with the bidding strategy for this hotel.
  18. Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $60.00 Subtotal: $360.00 Taxes & Fees: $66.18 Total Charges*: $426.18 Bidding history: Day 1, 3.5* $35 Skokie-Niles-Evanston $37 Skokie-Niles-Evanston + Franklin Park Area $38 Skokie-Niles-Evanston + Hyde Park $39 Skokie-Niles-Evanston + Lincoln Park $40 Skokie-Niles-Evanston + Midway Airport North Day 2, 3.5* $41 Skokie-Niles-Evanston $42 Skokie-Niles-Evanston + Franklin Park Area $43 Skokie-Niles-Evanston + Hyde Park $44 Skokie-Niles-Evanston + Lincoln Park $45 Skokie-Niles-Evanston + Midway Airport North Day 3, 3.5* $47 Skokie-Niles-Evanston $49 Skokie-Niles-Evanston + Franklin Park Area [offer to raise price to $64] $51 Skokie-Niles-Evanston + Hyde Park [offer to raise price to $66] $55 Skokie-Niles-Evanston + Lincoln Park [offer to raise price to $70] $60 Skokie-Niles-Evanston + Midway Airport North Used the PRICELINE link. Some threads show wins for the Orrington at $45. It's hard to tell why it cost more this time--ideally it's just a busy set of dates instead of Hilton jacking up the Priceline minimum bid for all dates. In any case, I've visited the Orrington before, and I'm a fan. Looking forward to a good trip!
  19. thereuare, Thanks for the help! I'd be willing to bid up to $60/night.
  20. I'm planning a trip to Northwestern University in Evanston, IL from 1/9/10 to 1/15/10. Based on past BetterBidding threads, $45 seems to be a common rate for the Hilton Orrington in Evanston. I'd prefer as close as possible to Northwestern, so the Orrington looks ideal. According to the BetterBidding Priceline Hotel List, the Orrington is the only 3.5* in the Skokie-Niles-Evanston zone. The Hotel List also states that the DoubleTree Skokie North Shore was formerly a 3.5* but is now a 3*. However, all of the recent postings on the BetterBidding Illinois board seem to list the DoubleTree Skokie North Shore as a 3.5*. Does anyone know if this DoubleTree is currently 3* or 3.5*? I've got my fingers crossed that the DoubleTree is a 3*, so that the Orrington is the only (known) 3.5* in the zone. EDIT: this thread's topic should be "Help - Hilton Orrington," not "Hotel Orrington." If I understand correctly, Hilton recently acquired this hotel.
  21. Bidding History: $38 4* ORD South $40 4* ORD North + ORD South $42 4* O'Hare (ORD) North + O'Hare (ORD) South + Skokie - Niles - Evanston I used the PRICELINE link.
  22. I don't see any past information on Priceline hotel wins in Logan, UT. I'm going to Utah State University from 10/1/10 to 10/3/10. Can anyone offer any advice?
