  2. Thanks prepared to book the Sheraton if that comes through. 3 other questions: 1) Trying to identify 4.5 star MSG - Hell's Kitchen that is newer to hotwire 4.5/5 on TripAdvisor $198 for the days in question (19-21 Dec 14) Free internet, pet-friendly, boutique, smoke free, fitness, restaurant, business, self-service laundry, internet access, spa, blind accessible, deaf accessible, accessible travel path, accessible bathroom, in-room accessibility, roll-in shower This seems interesting because it's new and is a very feature heavy boutique with a great reviews on TA! 2) is this the intercontinental TS? Times Square - 4.5 stars $297 4.5/5 on TA 95% recommended (944 total reviews) Pet friendly Fitness center Restaurant(s) Business center Internet access Accessible for visually impaired Accessible for hearing impaired Accessible path of travel In-room accessibility Accessible bathroom Accessible parking Roll-in shower 3) Is this the Sofitel? Midtown Central - 4.5 stars $303 4.5/5 on TA 95% recommended (445 total reviews) Free Internet, Pet friendly, Fitness center, Restaurant(s), Business center, Self-service laundry, Internet access Thank you. trying to close this out soon but it seems that a lot of the deals are disappearing - so I'm counting on being prepared when the ones that I like come back.
  3. Found a 4 star Midtown Central for the same dates. $173 Pet-Friendly, Smoke-Free Rooms, Fitness Center, Restaurant, Business, Self-Service Laundry, Internet access 90% approved 4 stars on TripAdivsor Any help would be appreciated.
  4. thanks. I am trying again now using your links. think I will try priceline also. Debating if I am willing to switch hotels as the sheraton times square has a just under $200 all in promotion through travelzoo for friday night only.
  5. Thank you.I will follow your instructions. I would have loved to have snagged the peninsula! Unfortunately it looks like that hotel is gone now - so back to the drawing board.
  6. I am trying to identify a 5 star, empire state with free internet, fitness center, and restaurant(s) only. 100% recommended at $336 a night base rate. Could you please help? Looks like the Refinery best guess. Would have been a steal for the plaza.... I've moved on to a 5 star midtown central at $370. free internet, pet friendly, indoor pool, pool, restaurant, business, laundry, spa. 100% recommended, 4.5/5 on tripadvisor. Doesn't seem to be a direct match to anything on the list.
  7. Hi Fellas, I'm looking for a place to stay in New York for Dec 19-21. No itinerary just looking around with someone who hasn't been to NYC before. I was thinking MTW would be a great location for this time of year. I would love to stay at the Algonquin but realize that there are too many other options in that star range and area to really target it. Generally I'm thinking centrally located (Times Square, MTW, Grand Central), 3.5 star quality or higher on either priceline or hotwire. I'm wary of those in the MTE cohort as some are a bit of a hike to the typical sites. Trying to avoid super small rooms where possible. Budget according to quality, I'd like to feel like I got a deal. Do you have any suggestions? Would love to end up with a hotel like the Sofitel, Algonquin... Thanks Regards, LP
  8. It was a company trip so I ended up staying at the Ritz -- I was too worried about a long walk/commute to try to save some money on this tip.
  9. Thank you. I will probably be bidding later today -- its almost definitely worth getting a 3.5 or 4 star and paying the cab as compared to the 215 a night at the Ritz. Especially because I hear its not as nice as some of the other Ritz's.
  10. I am attending an event in Dallas which is near Dallas Ritz Carlton: 2121 McKinney Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75201. I am considering staying there at about $215/night OTD. However, I would gladly stay somewhere else to save money. I am looking for a 3.5* or above (preferrably 4* or above) hotel which would be within walking distance or an easy commute to the Ritz. It would be for the 5 nights from 9/8 to 9/13. What bidding strategies would I use? Is it even possible to assure I get something near the Ritz (I know some cities have very large bidding zones - and I don't know much about Dallas)? Though I am posting this on the priceline forum I am also open to using Hotwire, though I have generally had better luck with priceline. Any help would be appreciated, and of course, the sooner the better. Thanks in advance.
  11. I should have posted earlier -- but this was a last minute thing. I will probably be posting about a stay in Dallas in a few weeks and will be sure to get it in early. You are right - I was only requesting a 3* (I had requested in increments of $5 and included every zone from Soho to CPS) and was upgraded to this 3.5 star. I also bid up to $145 for a 4* star - but only in the mid-town/ESB/TS/CPS areas. I actually went to the other CQ first because I have stayed there many times before (and didn't even think there was another) and found out my name wasn't on the check-in list for that day and was re-directed to the WTC location. The place was all I could ask for - iHome that charges the iPhone (which was a life saver) a nice desk to work and a spacious bathroom. The only problem was that the irons are communal and the floor that I stayed on was fresh out - its a problem if you are in a hurry and it takes 15 minutes to get one delivered.
  12. I would have really appreciated some help before bidding had ended. I ended up getting the 4* Club Quarters WTC for $120 + fees/taxes Saturday night which is convenient because its not that far from the office. On Friday night I just stayed at a friends place (I was hoping to never crash on a floor again after I left college).
  13. I will actually be bidding for tonight also -- I am most interested in what prices would be reasonable for today and tomorrow? Especially if bidding a certain zone, star level, price might be the best for finding a bargain hotel at the last minute.
  14. I need a place to stay in or around Manhattan this Saturday night. I would be willing to stay somewhere in Queens/Brooklyn that was safe and along one of the major subway lines or in Jersey City/Hoboken if its along the water (near a metro), I don't want to stay in LI or CT. As long as the place is clean I am ok (I would be content with most 2 stars, but would probably want to bid at 2.5 or 3 star minimum to be safe. What should my strategy be? Especially because I am so close to the date? I can book at the company rate at a 4 star boutique in the ESB area for $150 + taxes -- but I really don't need that kind of quality and would prefer to save if possible. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  15. Valet parking is $31 a day with unlimited in/out. They direct you to a "hotel lot" across the street which is $15/day unlimited in/out. However, there is a lot even closer that is only $12 a day. Though, having stayed here before, if you have any type of a problem, they are pretty quick to comp the hotel parking, some people will even complain about things that aren't real (I don't support that) just to get the free hotel parking. The hotel is absolutely nothing special, the lobby is nice and classic and the food menu is pretty bad, but reasonably priced. The hotel rooms are adequate size with sleep number beds. The rooms have old crt tube tvs and nothing especially luxury abuot them, but they are more than adequate. The bathrooms are a good size for a hotel. The room service and service in general is ok. If you are going on a busy weekend call in advance to confirm the beds you will receive (king, queen or 2 doubles). The location is just ok, you are just two blocks from some pretty shifty areas as you head north or west. However, where the hotel is just fine (but if you use public transportation always enter and board to the south of the hotel). The walk to the inner harbor isn't bad, maybe 4-5 blocks all of which are safe, less then ten minutes. It is slightly closer to the stadium area. And the inner harbor is next to little italy, and just past that is the hipsterish felles point, the good parts of the city are very easy to walk.
  16. Used the link and re-used to after each set of failed bids. Ended up winning the Radisson for preakness weeked at $58, 140 and change after taxes/fees for 2 days. Not my favorite 3 star in the area, but it worked just fine. I also bid up to 70 on a 4 star w/o sucess. Thanks guys.
  17. I used the add a night feature, but to no avail. I also tried $110 for the other two nights. I wasn't ready to keep up with this time consuming process.
  18. I used the PRICELINE link on this page to win The New Yorker for 3/30/10 - 4/1/10 only 2 nights for $105 per night. The other nights seemed a little bit more expensive, so we will be staying with a friend nearby. Thanks again.
  19. The check in date is the 30th of March and the check out date is the 4th of April. I am willing to break this up into a maximum of 2 separate stays if necessary. I would like to stay 3* and above if at all possible. If you feel that there are some areas in which a 2 or 2.5* is safe, I would do that also. My budget is up to $135 per night including taxes, though if necessary I could break this (the trip isn't optional and can't be rescheduled). I can book a nice hotel in the financial district through my employer for about $150-$160 a night all in, so that is my absolute ceiling. My goal is to spend the last amount possible. I saw that some people were able to snag the Affinnia 50 or the New Yorker at very good prices. I think that ideally I should probably be throwing out some low ball offers now, hoping that something gets offered.
  20. Ok -- there will only be 2 of us, so there should be no restrictions on room size. At this point my goal is those dates and the cheapest possible clean/acceptable place. Any ideas on strategy? What zones? How much? When? Any help is appreciated.
  21. I need a hotel for March 30th of 2010 to either the 4th or 5th of April. There will most likely be three of us (one can sleep on the floor) so hotels that are extraordinarily small or have a strict 2 person policy are not ideal. On this trip I am mostly concerned about price. If the place seems safe, I can put up with 2* no problem. I wouldn't pay the normal premium for a 4* compared to a 3*. I will be showing a few people around NYC, so anywhere centrally located works well (really anything in Manhattan as long as its not right along the water or deep in the UWS/UES. I imagine the cheapest way to go will be Priceline. My ?'s are, which areas/stars should I target and where would I be wasting my time? What type of price is realistic for these days? And would it be better to "wait" and bid closer to the date. I will be using your PRICELINE links. Thanks in advance.
  22. I tried for baltimore inner habor 4 star on 10/3 to 10/4 a week ago without luck up to $75. Maybe I will give it a try now.
  23. the studio 1br that I stayed in did not have a kitchenette. It was certainly <100 square feet. I have stayed in the radisson lexington petite rooms, and they were big compared to this.
  24. I had a great stay. I was given a room on the 46th floor with a view of the swarovski crystal ball. The room was big with a 42 inch plasma and a spacious desk. The bed was nice but the furniture and bathroom were by no means luxury or up to the normal standards of a 4 star hotel. The room was not very well cleaned (little pieces of paper and half a m&m on the floor --- but it didn't detract much from my experience). The room smelled a little bit like mildew and the lock box was not reset when we checked in. They missed out on all of the details you should expect from a 4 star. But the room was huge, nice bed, nice tv, big desk, decent bathroom and a good view and hotel location. Thrilled at $110, would not have been thrilled at $200+.
