Annual football trip to Germany with some friends. Decided to reserve the rooms(2) this early as we had already booked the flights. Munich hotels are normally quite expensive, so was happy to get a decent hotel in a good location for a good price, even managed to get the $30 end of summer discount by reserving on the last day of August. Excellent location near the railway station. Showed a TripAdvisor rating of 4,5/5, so was happy to the a punt although this time I had no idea which hotel this was. Amenities shown were: Free breakfast Free Internet Business center Internet access All in all, happy with the result. :)

As there are not so many 5* hotels in Bremen figured out that this would be the Park Hotel and was correct. Not much effort went into this one as I only needed a room for one night before flying to Stockholm the following morning. Looked at the hotel websites but the weekend seemed to be quite busy and expensive in Helsinki so decided to use Hot.wire instead. After a change in travel plans needed a cheap hotel for one night in Berlin. There was a 4* hotel in this zone for $48 in Priceline Express, decided to bid below that in Priceline. Started with a $41 bid, won the Winters Hotel Berlin Mitte Am Gendarmenmarkt at $45. Used the PRICELINE link as usual.

Very pleased with this win as it is for a weekday stay and the TripAdvisor ratings are excellent (4,5/5) . Narrowed this one down to Arcotel John F or Wyndham Grand Potsdamer Platz. As I would have been pleased with either one, went ahead with the booking. As Priceline has divided Berlin into several smaller areas this hotel is situated in "Checkpoint Charlie - Gendarmenmarkt - Potsdamer Platz" area (formerly part of Berlin-East). The amenities shown were Pets Allowed, Restaurant, Fitness Center and Free Internet. Excellent reviews in TripAdvisor so I'm happy with the result :) Used the PRICELINE link as usual.

The name of the area is now Louise Avenue - Shopping District and the full name for the hotel is Four Points by Sheraton Brussels. Early days but I wanted to make the reservation as there is a Fair in Munich this week and hotel room prices seemed already quite high. The area is now called "Hauptbahnhof - City Center - Oktoberfest". Never been to this hotel before but happy with the result as the hotel is close to Munich Central Station and I'm travelling by train. Used the PRICELINE link as usual.

Priceline has divided several European cities into multiple smaller areas. For example, Frankfurt now consists of 23(!) bidding areas making it easier to increase the original bid using areas without the same * level hotels. However, this typically changes the location reported earlier to the board as was the case with this win, the Maritim is now located in "Central Station - Fairground - Natural History Museum" Area. As mentioned, the same change has been applied to quite many European cities so you have a lot of updating to do as new wins are reported. :) There was a 4* hotel in Priceline Express for $66/night, started bidding from $60, won the Maritim at $64. There was a 4* hotel in Priceline Express priced at $58/night which based on the amenities shown might have been the Maritim. Started bidding from $48 and used other areas without any 4* hotels to increase the bid, won the Maritim Stuttgart at $53. Happy with the result as I have been there a couple of times before. Rock Im Park weekend in Nuremberg, happy with the result as the hotel is close to the railway station. Started with a bid of $60, $2 addition did the trick. My flight arrives at Gatwick on Boxing Day evening so I wanted a hotel nearby instead of having to travel to London late in the evening. Got the Arora which suits me just fine. Figured out that this would be the Melia, one of the other possibilities for this area at 4.5 stars according to Hotwire's "The last person got..." seems to be NH Berlin Friedrichstrasse. However, Melia has a Tripadvisor rating of 4.5, the rating for the NH is 4 at the moment. Very happy with the result as Tripadvisor reviews are excellent and I've never stayed at this hotel before. Had trouble trying to figure out which hotel this was but decided to take a punt as the Hotwire ratings were quite good and the zone suited me as well.
