  1. Ok, we're back from Phoenix(November 05). The Radison Hotel Phoenix Airport(University Street) has definitely undergone a re-furb this year. I cant comment on whether its worthy of its 3* rating because frankly, we didn't dine at all there, nor try the fitness center. Otherwise, we had no problems with the facilities as they were. Our two Hotwire rooms were very clean as were the public areas of the hotel in general. We really had no complaints upon checking in or out. The hotel itself is located *just* off of I-10 and shares this location with a Hilton Garden, Holiday Inn Express and an Extended Stay. There is also a small Waffle House restaurant within walking distance, but not much else. The immediate surrounding area is your typical "office park" zone which is quiet and traffic free on weekends. If you're looking for 'night life' you'll have to drive elsewhere, but the Tempe/University area is due East on University Street(same hotel which the Radison is on-you cant get lost!) within about a 6-8 minute drive. There are numerous restaurants/bars in that area. The airport shuttle leaves every half hour and its a 5 or 6 minute ride. The business center at the time of our stay consisted of 2 IBM desktops with corresponding 17" flatscreens and one fax/printer combo unit. Its located right next to the front desk but in its own room, and required no ID or room key to access. All in all, I was very pleased, as were my parents-who are pretty picky. In fact, they gave the Radison an edge over their regular haunt in that area, the Crown Plaza Airport because of the open ambiance of the former. Personally, i think both are a good value for the dollar at this time if you are seeking accomodations near the airport.

  3. Doing Hotwire search for Chicago Downtown for 3/23/06-3/26/06(1 room,2 adults) and come up with 4* In Wacker zone..amenities listed as Rest.,Pool,Fitness,Spa, Hi-speed,Business and a price of $120. Now, we know this is a *heavy* convention week and we're trying to avoid the $200(plus taxes) they want at the Hilton Towers...but the 4* hotels on the Chicago/Wacker List(intercontinental, swissotel, hotel 71, Hyatt regency, westin river north) all show no vacancy for these identical dates(actually, the swissotel does show $650 suites available I believe) via their own 'official' websites. Ive not know hotwire to have blocks of rooms dedicated to them, soooo....its either a hotel not on the current 4* list, or.... what ??? :) Any guesses? Thanks
  4. We got this hotel @ $59 per night(plus taxes) for 11/12-14 (nascar weekend). Radison Hotel Phoenix Airport 3333 East University St amenities listed were.. shuttle,restaurant,pool,fitness,hi-speed,golf nearby, business, and laundry. supposedly this property has undergone a $4+ million renovation this year, we'll have to see that for ourselves.. :) also, note that these amenities are identical to the Crown Plaza in this same zone except the latter is rated 3 1/2 stars instead of 3
  5. we're interested in a room(1-for 2 adults) for 11/12-11/14 in Phoenix,AZ . on Hotwire..a 3* in the Tempe/ASU zone keeps coming up.. $64 amenities listed as... Shuttle, dining, comp break, fitness, and business. I have no clue ! :) We prefer the Crown Plaza/Airport and have stayed there many times(usually $50-65) but its not coming up so we curious what this Tempe hotel might be... Thanks
  6. We stay in phoenix partly out of tradition-and the fact thats its a quick(!) ride to the airport monday morning and also because the hotels near the track are always booked up waaay in advance, just try to get a room in Goodyear for next april's race! :) the first year we went, in 2001 we stayed at the Hilton Taptio Resort for $48(!!!) per night, but hotwire hasn't had a price like that for that property on race weekend in awhile. Plus, my mother just likes Holiday Inn's, so, we humor her. You know how it is. :) Personally, i'm flexible when it comes to accomodations,,but for this trip i just go with the majority.
  7. Ok..you can add the 'Holiday Inn Select' to the rather bare Phoenix(Airport zone) list. 3* shuttle, restaurant, pool, fitness, business center, golf nearby, laundry it was a 2 1/2* property on hotwire in 2002, but, as we know, hotwire seems to be 'rounding up' some of its star ratings. :) ill post a review in mid-november. Thanks.
  8. 3* Holiday Inn Select in Phoenix-Airport area. 11/6-11/8 2 rooms for 2 nights $44 per room/night(plus approx $6 per room/night in taxes and fees) Amenities... shuttle restaurant pool fitness business cntr golf nearby laundry At the time of the purchase, Holiday Inns site quoted rates of $80 per room for the first night with and increase to $104 for the second night at this same property. side note: this will be the 3rd consecutive year we've stayed at this property when we travel to phoenix for the Nascar race there in the Fall. In 2002 it was a 2 1/2* property for $28 per night, in 2003 we got it on Priceline(sorry cant recall the bid amount). In either case, it beats the hotel rate hands down. I will post a current review for this property when we return in november.
  9. The Hotel list(on this site) for Phoenix,AZ, contains no hotels as being designated in the airport zone of Phoenix, and yet Hotwire has such an area designation on its site. Am i correct in assuming nobody has posted a winning bid here for that area?? thanks! glenn
