  1. I decided to cancel my trip for now. I think I need to understand better the various areas of the city before I can weigh hotel prices against other factors I may consider important (or decide if the price should be my main concern within a given star level). Thank you.
  2. Currently, this ESB hotel at $166 does not show up (nothing with a price close to that amount either). In any case, it's about $200 more than some hotels I listed. There are few cheaper 4*, at least four of which are in ESB/MTC/MTE/Chelsea. Thank you for your help.
  3. Thank you. It seems the amenities change sometimes with various searches. I've indicated all (and only) the amenities I've seen for each search method. I'm quite curious about the FD hotel as it gets 90% recommendation, though it did not show with the easy view. As I indicated previously, I would like to limit the total price (with fee/taxes) to $200. In fact, if I can approach CAD$200, that would be even better, a limit which the hotels I listed would satisfy I think. I'm going to visit the city. Thanks
  4. If I go by the price for each above, following the procedure you suggest, I get: 3* MTE - Free Internet, Pet friendly, Smoke Free Rooms, Fitness Center, Restaurant(s), Business Center, Self service laundry, Internet access, Accessible for the blind, Accessible for the deaf, Accessible path of travel, In-room accessibility, Accessible bathroom, Roll-in shower 3* EV-LES - Free Internet, Internet access 4* ESB - Restaurant(s), Business Center, Self service laundry, Internet access 3.5* ESB - Free Internet, Boutique Hotel, Fitness Center, Business Center, Self service laundry, Internet access The FD one didn’t show up.
  5. Looking at the Priceline side, I saw mentioned that it was slower around the 4th of July (I thought prices would only go up with summer). So I change my dates from June 28 to July 5, and prices are lower. Since the prices are so similar, I think I would rather go with a 4* but perhaps a 3* would be better given the location (I don’t know enough about NY though I don’t mind being anywhere in Manhattan). Can you help me identify and/or advise on the following (or just the ones you think worthy)? Should the fact that reviews are being gathered for one of them eliminate it? 3* MTE 141/night – 90% rec, TA 4/5 Internet, pet, smoke free, fitness, restaurant, business, self laundry, access for blind 3* EV-LES 142/night – 70% rec, TA 4/5 Internet 4* ESB 145/night – gathering reviews Restaurant, business, self laundry, internet 3.5* ESB 146/night – 80% rec, TA 4/5 Internet, boutique, fitness, business, self laundry 4* FD/ Wall street 150/nigh – 90% rec, TA 4/5 Internet, smoke free, fitness, restaurant, business, self laundry, in-room/wheelchair access Thanks
  6. On the Murray Hill website, it shows no availability for my dates, so it must be another hotel.
  7. I am trying to limit my total cost (including fees) to around $200/night and be fairly certain of the hotel I'm getting before I booked, though I understand there's always a risk. Now I get: 3* 85% recommended 4/5 TA Suite Fitness Business Self laundry Internet Kitchenette Which hotel do you think it is? Thanks
  8. If I take into account the recommendation and TA ratings and similar prices, I also get: UWS at 167 - free Internet, smoke free, fitness center, business center. But looking at the hotel list, I cannot identify that hotel. I don't see the 4* ESB you mention (must be gone) but there'one at the same price (187) in UES - pet friendly, boutique, fitness, restaurant, business, self laundry, internet. Could that be the Bentley? If yes, I cannot find a review on the board. In general, is ESB better than the upper sides?
  9. For one person on the dates above, I get a 3* for USD160 a night. Free Internet Smoke Free Rooms Self-Service Laundry Kitchenette I have no experience with NYC at all, but it seems it could be the Candlewood even though the star rating does not match the hotel list. Am I right? If not, which hotel might it be? Also, the price seems a good deal for this time of the year and my dates, even though it's "only" a 3*. Am I right? Thanks
  10. Got it on 7th (free) bid. Started at $70, at $90 got counteroffer of $113, bade $96, got same counteroffer, bade $99. With taxes and fees = US $363.48
  11. I got this hotel for $111/night from August 13 to 17, 2012 after 9 bids, starting at $80.
  12. Thanks, it's a good deal until the charges and fees are added. (it's still cheap, but the fees are outrageous). It's great to be able to learn and share on this forum. That said, this particular stay has nothing to do with the comments I posted in the general Hotwire forum, and so I don't understand why they've been subsumed here.
  13. Hotel rate per night $65.00 Nights: 3 Rooms: 1 Subtotal: $195.00 Tax recovery charges and fees: $75.65 (more than 38% of basic price!!) Total price: $270.65 Amenities: Fitness Center Pool(s) Restaurant(s) Business Center High-speed Internet Access Golf Nearby Tennis Nearby Tripadvisor review = 4/5
  14. Hotel rate per night $99.00 Nights: 3 Rooms: 1 Subtotal: $297.00 Tax recovery charges and fees: $49.97 Total price: $346.97 Amenities: Fitness Center Restaurant(s) Business Center High-speed Internet Access Tripadvisor review = 4/5
  15. Thank you, dahammer, I did do various sorts in order to find a hotel matching Hotwire's info supposedly taken from Tripadvisor. In an attempt to solve this mystery (that is: why the info or Hotwire cannot be found on Tripdadvisor), I've looked at almost all the hotels listed for Brussels. I was unable to find any match, and it is why I made this post. At this point, given the comments made, I can only assume that perhaps the Tripadvisor info on Hotwire is not accurate. Why is that? I don't know. I can wonder if this kind of discrepancy happens often. I can also wonder if this info can be misleading and what its potential impact on a prospective user might be (i.e. if the hotel is indeed the Husa President Park, then the user is mislead). And yes, whatever the hotel, a 2.5 rating makes it unattractive. But even then, it should show up on Tripadvisor.
  16. I thank you for your suggestion. I may indeed follow it if I decide to go the Hotwire route. It could be a way to get around apparent discrepancies between what Hotwire says and the actual information available on Tripadvisor. However, my main goal with this thread was to better understand (and perhaps help other users understand) how Hotwire uses tripadvisor info - and how we can use that info to identify a hotel. I gave an **example** (but there must be other ones) where there seems to be no match on Tripadvisor despite the info shown on Hotwire, which is weird, and was looking for insight on that subject. It's related to other people's comments on hotel ratings that change or do not seem to be the right ones and other such issues with Hotwire.
  17. I've also been looking for a place in Brussels around those dates (though I'm not going for the seafood show). Most hotels seem to be almost booked solid on April 29&30, with prices that are stratospheric in US (or Canadian, in my case) dollars. You may want to check B&Bs at www.bnb-brussels.be and other Web sites. There might still be availability at lower rates. The Parc des expositions is north and far from the centre, but close to a subway station (Heysel) and tram stops.
  18. Thank you for your reply. It's weird that you can't see the info I see on Hotwire (which I still get today, though the price is now $104). Perhaps cookies or the cache are having an effect (mine are cleared every day). When I looked on Tripadvisor, I did broaden my search in case the Hotwire info wasn't exactly up-to-date or even accurate. And I did think perhaps it was the Hotel Husa President Park as the number of reviews and Travelers' rating matched what Hotwire said. Except for the amenities - on Hotwire, the "mystery" hotel is listed as a boutique hotel, which the Hotel Husa President Park is not with almost 300 rooms.
  19. Yes, I still see it (today, March 1st at 16h:08 EST). It is to the right of the map, under "Travel information: 7.2 miles to Brussels National (BRU)" and it says: "Traveler rating 2.5 out of 5 Based on 80+ customer reviews (Last reviewed February 2009)" 1 room for 2 persons in Brussels, Thu April 30 to Thu May 7
  20. At this point, this comment is of a general nature. I'm trying to better understand how Hotwire uses tripadvisor info - and how we can use that info to identify a hotel. **For example** - I've been looking at hotels in Brussels from April 29 to May 7. Unfortunately, something is going on in Brussels and rooms are almost all booked on April 29 and 30. I tried playing with the dates and looked at April 30- May 7. The cheapest hotel shown is supposedly a 3.5* at $103 a night, with a tripadvisor rating of 2.5 (80+ reviews) and following amenities: Boutique Hotel - Fitness Center - Restaurant(s) - Business Center - High-speed Internet Access. Yet, if I look on tripadvisor, I cannot find any hotel that matches those criteria, in particular the rating of 2.5 with 80+ reviews. Why is that? Shouldn't I be able to find that same hotel on tripadvisor? Thank you for your insight on this.
  21. From April 19 to April 26, 2009 Hotel rate per night $96.00 Nights: 7 Rooms: 2 Subtotal: $1,344.00 Tax recovery charges and fees: $216.54 Total price: $1,560.54 Used the HOTWIRE link on this site. Thanks
  22. It was indeed the Crowne Plaza Shoreditch. I will create another post with the details. Thank you for your help.
  23. It does not seem I can edit my post - I forgot to insert "London" in the subject.
  24. 2 rooms from April 19 to April 26, 2009 (Note - I want to stay until April 29, but will have to make a second bid from the 26 to 29, hoping to get the same hotel.) Amenities: Fitness Center Restaurant(s) Business Center High-speed Internet Access Tripadvisor review = 4/5 I think this matches the Crowne Plaza Shoreditch
