  1. Hi;

    I realize that this is an old topic however for general reference regarding cross border car rentals;

    One-Way rentals (pick-up in the US, drop off in Canada)

    There are some car rental companies that will not permit their cars across the border, or have different pricing if the rental car goes out of the state or out of the country. Most of the larger companies will allow cross border rentals.

    The cost of one-way rentals is much higher than a regular rental due to the drop fees charged, as the vehicle must somehow be returned to the point of origin, towed if necessary.

    Ensure that the rental company notes on the rental agreement that they authorize you to take the car into Canada. You may be asked by Customs when entering Canada for this documentation.

    General Cross Border Rental

    Similar to above but no drop fees.

    Ensure that the car rental company notes on the rental agreement that they authorize you to take the car into Canada. You may be asked by Customs when entering Canada, or when re-entering the US, for this documentation.

    NOTE: By Law, Canadian citizens can NOT rent a car in the US and drive it into Canada.
