1. There were a couple of other appealing and less expensive choices, including a 4* in the N. Michigan area, but this was much more convenient for me. And thanks to BB (and the HOTWIRE link), I was 99.9% sure this was the place. I've stayed there a couple of times before, so I knew what I'd be getting.
2. I finally decided to try Priceline and scored a room at the 3.5* Wyndham Hotel Lisle for 63/night. I did start a new topic in that forum. Thanks again for your advice and help.
3. Just picked up this deal. Nice place - I've stayed there before. Expedia currently has this for $136/night. Woohoo!
4. Thanks for your help and ideas. The Marriott has a tennis court, so I suspect that'd show up on the amenities list. The Expedia page also mentions a Business Center, so I'd be willing to bet (and probably will) that the Hotwire listing is indeed the Hyatt. I'll keep you posted...
5. Check in March 4, check out March 6, 1 room, 2 adults (well, one regular adult and one adult who sometimes acts like a child, but there's no discounted rate for that). Thanks.
6. There's currently a 3.5* hotel in Lisle-Naperville on Hotwire with the following amenities: Fitness, Pool, Restaurant, Business, Laundry, High-speed Internet, Golf nearby. There are only two 3.5-ers in the Better Bidding guide -- the Hyatt Lisle, which lists all of these except Business and Laundry, and the Wyndham, which has only restaurant, pool, and fitness. I just called the Hyatt; they said do not have laundry facilities on the premises. Does anyone have any idea what hotel this might be?
7. Just booked this good deal on an excellent hotel. Thanks again for your help!
8. Yep, 'twas Hotel Palomar. (I forgot about checking the TripAdvisor ratings. :) ) I'll start a separate thread about the purchase. Thanks again for your help.
9. For 8/5-10, Hotwire showed a 4* in Dupont Circle - Embassy Row for 109/night -- fitness, pool, restaurant, business, internet. According to the Hotwire hotel list, that could be the Hotel Palomar or the Omni Shoreham, both of which are excellent hotels. Also according to the list, the Hilton is 3.5* (down from 4) and should have had the pool icon removed. I'm slightly leery, though, as I really don't want the Hilton. Does anyone know if the Hilton still is a 3.5* on Hotwire? Thanks.
10. I'm one of those $35 Hyatt posters. I've stayed at both the Hyatt and the Wyndham. Last year, when I stayed at the Wyndham, they did have limited shuttle service to the Lisle Metra station. You might want to call them and check.
11. A first bid of $35, accepted for the 3.5* Hyatt Lisle. I couldn't have done it without you guys. Thanks again. (I even remembered to use the PRICELINE link.)
12. On my second bid (first one = $59, 4*, Millennium Park, etc., rejected) I snagged a $79 room at the Embassy Suites Downtown, on State St. I probably should have bid $69 first, but oh, well. This is my caveat: I called the hotel today to get some room information and make a specific room request. The person I spoke with said that all the rooms in the block that Priceline bought (at least for those dates), were king-bed smoking rooms, and that a non-smoking room could be assigned on check-in only if one was available. Priceline's itinerary states that the room type "can not be guaranteed and [is] based on availability." I know that's pretty standard, but in my opinion the default assignment of a smoking room really should have been stated before any bid was submitted. Anyhow, after lurking for a few months, I'm happy to have submitted my first post on this board. Looking forward to many more...
