  1. I rebid again today and was rejected again. Went up to $125. going to think about it and see what I will do next. I may just settle for a Botique hotel if one is available for less.
  2. I followed the bidding strategy above and was rejected for all. I am going to try again in 24 hours. I saw a 4.5* on Hotwire for $152 yesterday, so I may just buy that if Priceline doesn't work out. Or, I may just settle for a 3*. Thanks, thereuare, for asking about my training. It's going pretty well!
  3. I need a hotel room in USE or USW on 10/21/2006. I'm running in the Nike marathon that starts in Union Square and ends at Golden Gate Park. I assume it's a busy weekend since thousands of people are expected to participate in this race. I don't want to pay more than $125 for a 4*. I followed the following bid strategy and was rejected for all. Select 4* USE Bid $68, if rejected add re-bid zone (Civic Center) Bid $70, if rejected add re-bid zone (Cathedral Hill) Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone (South San Francisco) Bid $80, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously. I closed my browser, reopened it, and went back to Priceline. I started bidding with 4* at USW, but was told that my bid could not be processed because I had already placed a request for the same trip and need to wait 24 hours. What did I do wrong?

  5. 1 room(s) @ $63.00 per night x 1 night(s) $63.00 Hotel Taxes and fees: $13.74 Hotel Subtotal $76.74 Total Price $76.74 Atlantis Casino Resort Spa - Royal Dolphin/Atrium Towers (Distinctive) Customer Favorite Best Value Amenities: Casino Airport Shuttle Restaurant(s) Pool(s) Fitness Center Spa Services Golf Nearby Tennis Nearby Business Center Hotwire assigned us to the Royal Dolphin tower, which is supposed to be a little nicer than the standard rooms they have there. I checked the Atlantis website and the same room would cost $117/night if booked directly with the hotel's website. Travelocity and Expedia were offering the Royal Dolphin tower for $119/night.
  6. Hotwire rated this hotel a 3* and it is NOT a 3*. 2* would be much more accurate. The hallways smelled of stale cigarette smoke. The hotel's elevators are old and rickety. It appears the rooms were last remodeled in the 1980's. The building uses a master heating/air conditioning system and visitors have very little control over the temperature in their room. According to a note from the hotel manager, the hotel's system automatically turns on the heater when the outside temperature dips below 65 degrees. 65 degrees is not cool enough to run a heater!! We turned on a fan that blows hot air around and slept with the balcony door open so cool air would come in. There was no screen on the balcony door, so I'm surprised I woke up without any bug bites! The beds were hard as a rock and the pillows were flat. The linens were a dingy yellow (I think they used to be white) and there were holes in the blanket. The bathroom was awful. The sink had no counter space, so there was nowhere for me to lay out my makeup, toothpaste, toothbrush, etc. The hotel uses 1-ply toilet paper. The only redeeming quality about the room was it had good water pressure in the shower. The hotel charges $9 for parking, which is totally unnecessary because there is plenty of street parking around the hotel.
  7. The Sheraton Gateway at LAX is beautiful (on the inside). Hotwire rates this hotel as a 4* which is right on target! The registration desk staff are very professional and friendly. The beds are super comfortable-- soft cotton sheets, a beautiful duvet, and great down or faux-down pillows. The bathroom is very nice as well. They use regular soft light bulbs instead of fluorescent lighting, which is much more flattering. The shower's water pressure was rather weak. The fitness center well equipped like a real gym, and the pool/hot tub is very clean. There are a couple restaurants and bars inside the hotel, along with a couple gift/souvenir shops. I loved waking up and finding a complimentary copy of the Los Angeles Times at my door (I hate USA Today). I was very surprised by quiet the hotel is, considering it is right next to LAX. No airplane noise! This hotel charges $10 for parking. Customers should look for (free) street parking along the street behind the hotel. The only restriction is no parking on Weds from Noon - 2:30 p.m. for street cleaning and it's a short walk around the corner to the hotel's entrance.
  8. These bids were for 5/12 and 5/13 (Thurs and Fri nite) I started out at $31 for a 4* in Santa Monica and Bev Hills zones. Added additional zones (LAX, Downtown, etc) and upped $2 per rebid and eventually went down to 2.5* I stopped at $45 because I didn't want to pay any more than that for a 2.5*. I ended up getting a 4* ($80-LAX) and 3* ($79-Hollywood) through Hotwire and plan to use the Entertainment Book's $30 Hotwire rebate for each transaction so each will be about $65 after the rebate goes through. I probably could have gotten a slightly better deal through Priceline if I kept at it, but I didn't feel like waiting 72 hours and rebidding.
  9. Sheraton Gateway Los Angeles 6101 West Century Boulevard Los Angeles, California 90045 (310) 642-1111 AMENITIES: Airport Shuttle, Restaurant(s), Fitness Center, Business Center 1 room(s) @ $80.00 per night x 1 night(s) $80.00 Taxes and fees: $16.95 Hotel Subtotal $96.95 I plan to use the Entertainment Book's $30 Hotwire Rebate so it will end up being about $66/night. Note: I will be in LA for two nights. I wanted to take advantage of the $30 Entertainment Book rebate for each night. The Entertainment Book rebate requires folks to spend at least $95 per transaction and I wanted to stay as close to $95 as possible, so I made two reservations at two different hotels.
  10. Ramada Inn Hollywood Near Universal Studios 1160 N. Vermont Ave Los Angeles, CA 90023 Amenities: Restaurant, Fitness Center, Business Center One night, May 12, 2005 (Thurs) $79 for one night $16.95 taxes and fees TOTAL: $95.95 I plan to use the Entertainment Book's $30 Hotwire Rebate so it will end up being about $65/night. (Read more about this offer here: HOTWIRE COUPON $30 Note: I will be in LA for two nights. Wanted to take advantage of the $30 Entertainment Book rebate for each night, so I made two reservations. Unfortunately, the price for the same hotel jumped to $134 for the next night (Friday) so I ended up getting a 4* by LAX for $80 instead. It's no biggie since I'll have my car with me. I'll post this separately.
  11. I just purchased a 4* at LAX. It's the Sheraton Gateway Los Angeles 6101 West Century Blvd Got it for $80 for May 13.
  12. It was classified as Near Strip East. 2 amenities: pool and laundry facilities.
  13. use code GIFTCARD06 $10 off per night, max 5 nights. New customers only
  14. Gotta get a hotel room for a last minute biz trip. Only going to be sleeping there for a few hours, so I don't want to spend much money. I've been bidding all EVENING for a cheap hotel room in Vegas on Priceline. Everything's all booked up for tomorrow night! (I started out bidding about $25 for a 4* and gradually added zones and value to my bid.) Started at The Strip and added Near East Strip, UNLV, and convention center. I went all the way down to 2* as well. I went up to $46 and quit... There's no way I was going to pay more than $46 for a 2*. So I went to HOTWIRE, found a 1* for $29 + $9.95 tax. I used the following code for $10 off: use code GIFTCARD06 $10 off per night, max 5 nights. New customers only So I'm at the America's Best Value Inn Las Vegas for $28.95. Amenities include pool and laundry facility. I'm a happy camper.
  15. Here's another code for Enterprise. Enterprise Corporate ID Number, 01A8037 It's the corporate class code for Beta Gamma Sigma, an international business honor society. I've never been asked to show proof of affiliation. EDIT BY THEREUARE: The above socieity's discount code is 01A8037and you can use this board's link to Enterprise Rent a Car The rates for cars are OK (I got a compact car at Sacramento Int'l Airport for $22/day for a Sunday-Tuesday rental. The rate is a little high compared to what folks might be able to bid for on Priceline, but Enterprise does not charge an underage (21-24) fee ($15/day) for young renters with this code. I tried bidding for a rental car on Priceline (I started at $15 for a compact and eventually went up to $35) but they wouldn't bite because my bid was "too low" considering the underage fee that rental car companies like to tag on, which range from $10-$30/day. It's strange that I couldn't get a car for less than $35 on Priceline because the clerk @ Enterprise told me they had over 100 cars on the lot that day that weren't being used. I hope this code is useful!
  16. This is the only zone I chose. Priceline's Yosemite Nat'l Park area includes Mariposa and Oakhurst. I didn't want to stay in Mariposa. I started out at $27 in Oakhurst at 2* and was rejected. Priceline offered to let me rebid right away w/ the same zone and star level if I increased my bid by $7. I increased my bid by $7 to $34 and my bid was accepted. Someone else got the same room for $30 recently. I know I may have gotten the same deal if I had started out at $23 or just bid $30 to begin with. I didn't know about Priceline's new "add $7 and rebid again" opportunity. Oh, well. $34 a night over a three-day weekend is still a bargain. :) I checked the Comfort Inn's website and their internet /AAA rates were about $80 a night.
  17. I agree with the above posts. I was given a one bedroom suite, which was amazing. It was like a 1 bedroom apartment! There was a TV in the living room and one in the bedroom. The bathroom had two sinks and a full tub/shower. The kitchen was stocked w/ dishes, pots, pans, utensil, etc. The microwave and fridge came in handy to heat and store leftovers. Larkspur Landing had a nice complimentary business center full with two computers, copier, fax, and laser printer and free internet access. Each room also had free high speed access. There was plenty of free parking and the staff was very cordial. The continental breakfast was minimal (bagels, mini muffins, and fruit) but they did have lots of Starbucks coffee, tea, and juice. For $35 a night, this place was a great bargain! I've stayed at the Mariott (3*) near SFO before, and I think Larkspur Landing is better in quality.
  18. Just FYI, for those of you who are concerned about labor relations, there is a boycott of the Hyatt Downtown Sacramento because of its problems with the hotel union. The Hyatt is known as the "Republican" hotel while the Sheraton is the "Democratic" hotel. Ah-nold stays at the Hyatt when he's in town for work.
  19. Bidding history: $25 for a 3* in South San Francisco and was rejected. $28 for a 3* and added SFO and was rejected. $30 for a 3* and 2.5* (S. SF and SFO) an :) d was rejected. $35 for a 3* and 2.5* (S. SF and SFO) and bid was accepted. Details of winning bid: Check-In Date: Mon, Oct 4, 2004 Check-In Time: After 03:00 PM Check-Out Date: Tue, Oct 5, 2004 Check-Out Time: 12:00 PM Your Offer Price: $35.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 1 Subtotal: $35.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $10.69 Total Charges: $45.69 The lowest price listed on hotel's website for same night was $135/night (AAA rate). Larkspur Landing of South San Francisco (owned by Hilton) 690 Gateway Boulevard San Francisco, California 94080 650-827-1515 According to the website (www.larkspurhotels.com), some of the amentities include complimentary "healthy start breakfast," complimentary business center (PC's, laser printer, fax, copier, etc), library (books, films, games, etc), and much more. Sounds pretty nice! I will certainly make sure to post a review upon my return!!
  20. Just got back from my stay at the Hawthorn suites. It was nice. The complimentary airport shuttle was speedy-- it arrived within 10 minutes of my request. The complimentary breakfast was standard free food. Watery eggs, dry bagels, mushy canned pears and overfried bacon. Their biscuits were good and one could always eat fresh fruit (apples & oranges) and cereal. Hawthorn Suites did charge a $1.50 tourism fee-- they explained that it's a City of Sacramento tourism assessment. I've never heard of such a thing in Sacramento, but didn't make a stink since it was only $1.50.
  21. Hi there, Does anyone have any suggestions on how to bid for and get Embassy Suites on Priceline? I'm trying to book a room for three nights during the week at the Embassy Suites South Lake Tahoe. It's going for $82 on Hotwire and I'm wondering if I could get a better deal on Priceline. Or should I just take the $82?
  22. I attempted to bid $40, $45, and $50 for a 4* and 3* hotel and was rejected. I rebid $40 for a 2.5* and got the Hawthorn Suites. Not bad considering Hawthorn's website stated that the room goes for $149. Hawthorn Suites Sacramento 321 Bercut Drive Sacramento, CA 95814 1 Room $40.00/night + 11.30 taxes and service fees. Wednesday night (7/28) This hotel is not exactly Downtown-- it's about 1.5 miles from the State Capitol. Priceline's "Downtown Sacramento" map includes the far north part of Downtown (which is where most of the 2.5* and 2* places are). But they do have a free shuttle that takes you to the airport and Downtown. I've stayed here before (for a conference) and it was OK. It's right off of I-80 in a semi-industrial part of town. The river's right around the corner, so you could go walking/jogging but I wouldn't recommend it after dark. The complimentary breakfast is so-so.
