  1. zbenye, If you're reading this, keep an eye on the weather. A tropical depression formed east of the Bahamas, and the preliminary forecast is for it to hit or pass very near Key West as a Category 1 (weakest category) hurricane on Tuesday. Stay safe!
  2. I am happy to report that I've won the Gaylord Palms Hotel thru Priceline for only $73 for one night, Saturday September 3rd. I believe that this is the lowest accepted price that's been reported for this hotel on this board. I started bidding at $55, as the Wyndham Palace had a conventional rate of $89, and I wanted to start low in case the Wyndham had a low priceline rate. After being rejected at 55, 60, 65, and 70, I bid $73, and to my delight, won the Gaylord Palms, which is my wife's favorite hotel. I had a cancellable backup reservation at the Westin Grand Bohemian downtown for $99, and though I still want to stay there one day, I'll gladly cancel it for another stay at the Gaylord Palms. This almost makes up for last year's Labor Day weekend being ruined by Hurricane Frances. I used the savingsbarn link for my bid.
  3. New Hotel came up today. I won the 2* Best Western Coral Bridge Inn and Suites for $34 per night. This is in the Fort Myers zone. I bid $30 for a 2* in Fort Myers zone and Priceline offered a counteroffer of $8 more. Willing to stay in other zones, I bid $32 and added Gateway to the Islands, which was rejected, then bid $34 and added the South Fort Myers/Airport zone. Total with taxes for 2 nights is $82.38. Lowest rate on Best Western's website was $80 per night before taxes. Oh, and I thought the topic title should read 2* Ft. Myers - Naples (Fort Myers) Best Western Coral Bridge Inn and Suites, but there wasn't enough space. The hotel is located at 9200 College Parkway in Fort Myers.
  4. Booked 3 nights in August at the Boardwalk Hotel on the Strip in Las Vegas. Used the link on the support page to purchase. Thanks again for a great site!
  5. Just picked up another 2005 Entertainment Guide to ensure I get $30 off my next Hotwire purchase over $95, as I had read in another thread on this board that Hotwire has gotten strict with the offer. Anyhow, I used the link on the support page to purchase. Thanks for maintaining--and constantly improving--this site.
  6. After unsuccessfully bidding up to $70 for 4* in the Airport and Coral Gables zone, and unsuccessfully bidding up to $55 for a 3* in the Airport zone, I attempted 3* in the Coral Gables zone. Initial bid of $41 received a counteroffer to add $12. Next bid of $45 was rejected, and hotel was won for $48. This hotel was not for me, but the person who stayed there said it was questionable whether it was really 3* quality. This hotel also charges $6.95 for parking. I had read somewhere (maybe Tripadvisor?) that parking was free. Well, not anymore.
  7. The Hyatt in Coral Gables is less than 5 miles from the Airport. Not too far, and mainly a direct shot down LeJeune Road. From this hotel, South Beach is about a 30 minute drive, and Coconut Grove (another great spot) is only about 10 minutes away from the hotel. Just remember, there's no guarantee you'll get the Coral Gables Hyatt via Priceline; you can get any 4* property in that zone.
  8. If anyone is still interested in the hotel listed at the top of this thread, I wanted to point out that I found the Omni on a package (hotel + car) search for June 17th to June 19th, and the amenities, while similar, do not match up exactly. The amenities listed for the Omni Championsgate, via the package search were: Resort Restaurant(s) Fitness Center Spa Services High-Speed Internet Access Golf Nearby Tennis Nearby Business Center Laundry Facilities (self-service) I do note that every amenity listed in the first post of this thread is also listed in the list above. Also, a pool is not included in either list. Could it be that the Omni is listing different sets of amenities in its opaque offering vs. when it shows up as a package?
  9. Bids of $65 and $68 were rejected. Was accepted at $70. One night, Friday June 17th.
  10. The summary for the Hyatt Grand Cypress on EasyClickTravel's Off the record listing for this hotel states that the lobby will be undergoing construction (redesign of atrium skylight) from June 1st to September 16th, so perhaps the Hyatt has given inventory to Priceline at great rates for some of these dates. The rates on EasyClickTravel for this hotel, however, are not good. Of course, Priceline is always a crap shoot, so there are no guarantees.
  11. I booked the Gaylord Palms thru Hotwire for $116 on Saturday June 18th. The amenities listed are still the same as recently reported. Room Rate: $116.00 Taxes & fees: $20.95 Total price: $136.95 I will be submitting the $30 Entertainment Book rebate for this purchase. This will bring the total cost down to $106.95. I note that this hotel generally cannot be won for much less than $85 on Priceline (approx. $104 with taxes and fees). So, thanks to the Entertainment Book's Hotwire rebate (and Betterbidding's Hotwire hotel list) I gladly paid $3 more for a near guarantee of getting the Gaylord Palms thru Hotwire--the hotel I really wanted to stay at--versus the crapshoot that Priceline can be. A few other notes I wanted to pass along to those who utilize this site often: 1. I first clicked on a HOTWIRE link provided by Thereuare in an earlier thread. Once the hotwire page loaded, I closed the browser and then accessed Hotwire by going directly to the website adress provided on the rebate form. I did this in hopes of affiliate credit being awarded to Betterbidding without compromising my chances of getting the $30 rebate. 2. The price for the hotel went up and down today (as Hotwire typically does). It started at $120, went up to $124 a bit later, and I bought when it went down to $116. 3. The lowest available rate for this hotel on this date is $199.00. Thanks to Betterbidding for allowing me to have strong confidence that the hotel I found was the Gaylord Palms. This is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at and I anxiously await my return.
  12. I raised my bid to $34 and won the 2* Baymont Inn and Suites in Willowbrook. Your Offer Price: $34.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 1 Subtotal: $34.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $11.09 Total Charges: $45.09
  13. The Oakbrook suggestion is great advice. Anyone reading this in the future while researching a potential bid in this area should definitely take what Lindabobhat wrote into consideration. In my specific case, I want Willowbrook this time. I
  14. I won this on my first bid of $16 per day. With all taxes and fees, it comes to $103.85, about $20 less than the lowest reservation I could get conventionally, even with a coupon for one free day I got from my Entertainment Book.
  15. $33 was rejected, with no counteroffer. Pretty stingy 2* hotel(s) in this zone. I will keep raising by $1 every three days. Not only do I want to beat the conventional price I currently have, I want to get this hotel paid for now, as at the time of my stay I'll be shelling out enough money between a rent a car and costs associated with the wedding I'm going to. Easier on the budget to pay this month versus next month.
  16. My most recent bid of $32 also got a counteroffer to add $8. I'll keep adding $1 and bidding every 3 days.
  17. Well I did not get to Tallahassee until 1 a.m. the night of my checkin (thanks to a tire blowout on I 10). Sure enough, the type of room I requested when I called Friday early afternoon was available at that late hour. Also, my first name does start with a D, so sounds like runNgun does have connections at the Holiday Inn Northwest Tallahassee. For anyone bidding Tallahassee, for what it's worth, the sheet I signed at check in actually had the price that Priceline paid listed. Priceline was charged $40 a night, the same amount as my winning bid. So, if my assumptions are correct, Priceline's only profit on this bid was the service charge, and I could not have gotten this hotel for a cheaper price. As for Tallahassee, yes it is a nice place, and I agree with thereuare that it is a likeable place. It really doesn't deserve the nickname of "Trailerhassee" that us Hurricane fans have given it.
  18. I noticed that no hotels have been reported in the Willowbrook zone of the Chicago Suburbs, which presently only offers 2* and 1* bidding. I should be able to report a 2* hotel soon. I have been bidding for a 2* in Willowbrook over the past few weeks. I started at $25, was rejected, then was rejected 3 days later at $28. When I was able to next bid, my $30 bid got a counteroffer to add $8. I once again waited, and when I bid $31 today, Priceline once again counteroffered asking me to add $8. So, I will keep adding one dollar, and assuming the rates don

  20. I'm flying internationally next month for the first time since 2000. (Got a great price MIA-WAW $460 RT including taxes, thanks to Priceline.) I was wondering if Long haul Transatlantic flights still have free alcohol in coach class, or if this perk ended when airlines started losing money post 9/11. I am flying on Swiss if that makes any difference. Any feedback is appreciated. I know this may be a bit off topic, but I figured the Run of House category was appropriate, and seeing as how friendly the adminstrator and other members of this site have always been, I didn't think it would be a problem to post this question.
  21. I wanted a 4* hotel in downtown Austin for the night of December 30th. I saw Hotwire had a 4* going for between $58 and $60, and thanks to betterbidding, I was able to figure out that it was likely the Omni listed at that rate. Willing to accept any 4* downtown, I tried to beat Hotwire's price on Priceline. My bid for $42 received a counteroffer of $54. Instead of accepting, I added a zone with no 4 stars and bid $44 which was accepted by the Omni. A great hotel in a great location at a great price. I had limited internet access, so I could not post this winning bid until after the fact. Also, the students out at the bars that night were in a lively mood, almost anticipating the imminent Rose Bowl victory over Michigan.
  22. Yes, the amenities are still the exact same as you list. Restaurants, Pool, Fitness, Business, Golf, Tennis, Spa
  23. I got the 4* Hyatt Coconut Point in Bonita Springs, Florida for Saturday night July 31, 2004. Lowest available rate for this date through the Hyatt's website is $139. This $139 rate is a summer special with minimal blackout dates. Hyatt is even advertising it on local television down here in Southwest Florida. Hotwire had a rate yesterday for $233. I booked through Hotwire. Hotwire has contacted me to state that I am entitled to $188 back via their Double the Difference Guarantee. My final cost breaks down as follows: Total paid to Hotwire: 262.95 Double Difference refund: $188.00 Final Cost: $74.95 Before buying through Hotwire, I bid for a Resort in Bonita Springs on Priceline for $60. Once that bid came back rejected, I bought through Hotwire as I figured the $75 net price could not be beat.
