  1. I stayed at this hotel from Friday 10/31/08 to Sunday 11/02/08, with a winning Priceline bid of $105p/n. Location The location of the hotel is excellent. It is right in front of the Royal Palace in Dam Square. The hotel is extremely easy to reach and is about a 500 metre walk from Centraal Station. Rooms We were given a room in the main part of the hotel on the 1st floor (room 1019) through Elevator #2. It was facing the wrong side of the hotel so didn't have any view, which was disappointing but expected. Not such an issue since we weren't in Amsterdam to stare out our hotel window anyway. The room was quite large and extremely nice. We had a lovely king size bed that was probably the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. The heater in the room worked wonders (there's a heater that comes out of the bath as well, heating the bathroom up). There was a big screen TV in the room that had plenty of channels in English, Dutch, Italian and French. The bathroom was the only thing that let this room down. It was a bit old and in need of an upgrade. It was quite large with a bath/shower, a toilet (behind the wooden shutters), and a standalone shower (behind another wooden shutter). Service We had absolutely no problems at check in or check out. I enquired about the Sunday late check (5pm) out and was told that it had been added to my account. I was a bit shocked at the rudeness of the receptionist when we arrived home at around 2am on Saturday morning. We had just stepped into the lobby and she was yelling at us to show her our room key. This was the same girl that had checked us in less than 24 hours before. I understand if that's hotel policy but there's a right way to ask and this wasn't it. A minor inconvenience. Food We didn't eat any food at the hotel. It is extremely expensive (I'm pretty sure the breakfast buffet has gone up to 33 euro). I would definitely stay at the NH Grand Hotel again
  2. I stayed at the Copthorne Tara Hotel in Kensington this past weekend (10/25/08 - 10/27/08), with a winning bid of $77 per night through Priceline. The hotel is very easy to find from the High Street Kensington underground station. Exit the underground, turn left down the first street (Wrights Lane), and left again at the end of that street. From the outside we weren't very impressed with the hotel as it really isn't much to look at. However, the staff at reception more than made up for it with their friendly and helpful demeanour. We were given a room on the 7th floor in the non-smoking section (we were originally told there was none available but had one arranged for us assumingly after some juggling of other reservations). Unfortunately we were stuck with twin single beds (not so bad for my girlfriend who managed to get a decent sleep through my snoring for once). The room overlooked the front of the hotel. Noise was not at all an issue and we slept peacefully. The room and beds were extremely comfortable. The lighting, as a previous post has mentioned, is a little crazy with the push button controls. Once I played around with them for awhile though I got used to which button turned on which light and found it to be quite handy and fun. The bathroom is adequate with a high pressure shower and bath. Our toilet was a little fickle and didn't always flush when we wanted it to but not so big an issue. The one thing I didn't really like about the hotel was its location. High Street Kensington is a little out of the way and generally requires at least one transfer in order in order to get into the centre of town (Leicester Square, Piccadilly Circus, for instance). This area is perfect if you are in London to visit the museums (Natural History Museum, Science Museum). The hotel and facilities were fine for the price, but I probably wouldn't stay in this area of London again.
  3. Rejected 3 times before winning bid. Bid history: City Center Museum Quarter (CCMQ) - $85 CCMQ + City Center South (CCS) - $93 CCMQ + CCS + North - $98 CCMQ + CCS + North + Schipol - $105 (winning bid) Tax = $28.45 I am slightly apprehensive about staying here due to the negative reviews for Priceline bookings. However, for the location and the relatively cheap price I am confident that it will be much better than some of the other hotels I have stayed in Europe before finding Priceline. I will also be emailing the hotel and requesting a King Size room with a view over Dam Square. I'll let you all know how it goes.
