  1. The hotel worked out fine. The location was great for my purpose right off the Thruway. Customer service was better than my last stay here. The rooms are about the same-worn furniture; funny smelling room, really cheap toiletries. But it was quiet all night and early morning, and I like that.
  2. I used the PRICELINE link from this site..I always try to use it for searching and bidding.
  3. I was hoping I wasn't going to get this hotel but it doesn't really matter because it's only one night.Going to an event at Buf State and needed to stay overnight
  4. Hotel Indigo is right next door to the Marriott. I can't believe the Marriott went down to 3 stars. It was getting a pretty good renovation which was almost done in December.
  5. Could I ask Sleepless why you are trying to get the Amherst Marriott? If you're not flying out of Buffalo, I think I would look at other areas. This hotel is near UB Amherst but not much else. And July in Western and Central NY is probably the busiest and most expensive month . or one of the most expensive months. Not only is Buffalo near Niagara Falls, there's lots of other tourist destinations nearby plus fairs, tournaments, concerts, etc. 75 might get you a two star hotel maybe.
  6. Sorry I didn't see this post until it was too late. I live in Branchport, on the other fork of Keuka Lake. Not much lodging choices right in Penn Yan. The Best western is the only chain hotel. Penn Yan is still a very small town. Penn Yan is on Keuka Lake, and had a Valentine's weekend wine trail event. If you like Seneca Lake, and want to do a wine trail event there, may I suggest the hotel at Glenora Winery, or the one in Watkins Glen. Geneva also has quite a few lodging choices too and may be quite a bit cheaper in the winter months than Penn Yan lodging. HTH Terri
  7. Hi. Started out bidding for a 4 star in the N.Dulles N Virginia area at 40. I received a counter offer for 55.00 which I ignored of course. I just kept rebidding adding non 4 star zones. I found it interesting that I kept getting the " your bid has almost no chance of being accepted" through the whole process, even the winning bid. I've had it pop up before with a really low bid, but not in the normal bidding process. I got the Hyatt Dulles which is what I expected. Started my bid through Better Bidding PRICELINE link. Thanks
  8. Hi, After receiving the bonus email this morning, I went to PRICELINE to "claim" it. Then I remembered to go to Better Bidding, and go through your PRICELINE link to make my winning bid. I got a nice room with a view and a Jacuzzi bathtub. And yes, the town and the hotel are pretty quiet. Thanks Terri
  9. Holiday Inn Hotel And Suites Ocean City 3 star 1/25/12-1/27/12 2 nights Ocean City 1701 Baltimore Ave., Ocean City, MD 21842 4102897263 40 a night plus 5 bonus cash=80 plus 18.08 taxes First try and I thought I was bidding low but maybe not. I have never stayed here before. Let's see if they give me a room with a view
  10. Was trying to get the Hyatt but was "upgraded" to the Doubletree I started with your PRICELINE link First try..I needed something for tomorrow so bid could have been too high but oh well
  11. Hi, Never thought I'd be asking for help doing this but looking for another hotel in Grand Rapids . Was checking hotwire for the dates 10/16/-10/23 and a 3star came up with fitness and high speed internet. It says they are still gathering reviews Any ideas? I'm looking in the airport area. Thanks Terri
  12. You'll love the beds and the hotel Get room service for breakfast-that's what i did for breakfast when I used this hotel for an early flight out of BUF Just as cheap as going to the restaurant And if you happen to be there on a Sunday, try the buffet. It was great last year
  13. Just a note: The Buffalo Bills play at home September 25th. When I stayed at this hotel through Priceline last year for a flight out of Buffalo, there was also a home game. The opposing team stayed at this hotel, along with the reffing staff, and other NFL officials, PLUS the fans of the team. In this case, it was Cleveland, which might explain why I could still get the hotel through Priceline. It's the Pats this time, and I assume a lot more fans and media will be there. Just guessing, but the downtown hotels might not be as affected by a Bills game as the hotels to the south and east of Buffalo might be. HTH
  14. Why don't you try for the Albany airport zone? It's not that far from Schenectady
  15. I've been bidding for a one night stay 4/20-4/21 in just about all the NY zones except Coney Island, Brooklyn, airport zones, and Queensborough Bridge. Down to 3 stars , and I've gone to 115. I've checked the regular hotel sites, and any property with decent (under 250 dollars) prices are showing no availability. The prices I've seen are mind blowing, especially for a Wednesday night. It's going to be tricky getting anything decent.
  16. Sorry about not bidding through your link. I am bidding for a one night's stay in NYC, and have been using the PRICELINE link. The Holiday Inn Express Harrisburg East really worked out well for my plans in Hershey. It is right off of 322/83S and there's tons of restaurants and strip malls in the area. The place was fine, they never mentioned Priceline, and they honored my room requests I had made in advance. Breakfast has both hot and cold items. Service came with a smile. No complaints.
  17. Was looking for a room in Hershey for one night, 4/8/11. Started at the Harrisburg zone and bid up to 44 for 3.5 zone. Kept dropping down with price and zones. Got the Holiday Inn Express on Union Deposit Rd for 35 in the 2.5 star Harrisburg East zone. Total with taxes is 46.07 I wanted to be a little closer to Hershey but it looked like it would have taken more money for a 2 star zone. Going price for that night -99.00 for AAA rate
  18. Mike, The airport shuttle starts running at 6 AM , I think. Check to make sure there's room on the shuttle for your time. You have to reserve it ahead of time. I saw flight crews there both times I stayed there so they may have priority. Personally I think you are bidding too early. HTH
  19. Postscript:Late but I was waiting for the refund Priceline promised before I posted this. It finally showed up today in my account. My stay at the Silverton was short but not sweet. I could not lower my expectations enough to stay my entire vacation there, even with three room changes. I decided my vacation was not going to be spoiled by a bad hotel choice, and I went down the road to a different hotel after two disappointing days and nights. With the amount of hotels in Las Vegas, there is absolutely no reason to stay at this hotel/casino. None. I've stayed at glassed in desk clerk Motel 6 types that were better than this place. This isn't the only hotel in Las Vegas that will charge you for just about everything that is free elsewhere, and then slap a resort fee (7.99-15 for suites in Silverton's case) on top of everything for good measure. But you get nothing for that fee-nothing. Since the only free WiFi was in the very small lobby, I was there with my laptop a couple of times a day checking my email, and on my last morning, looking for another hotel. There were patrons checking out early EVERY time I was there. The clerk would say that the person had a pre paid reservation through IVegas, and they would have to go through them for a refund. After making reservations at another hotel, I returned to the Silverton, and checked out. The clerk never asked why , or said anything except to almost give me a refund then and there. She asked another front desk person, and then corrected herself. Without my saying a word, she told me I would have to go through Priceline for a refund for the remaining days of my stay. They only charged me the resort fee for two nights. As soon as I left, I got Priceline Customer Service on the phone. I told the person that I had checked out early, and the hotel had offered a refund. The guy said he needed a name. I called the hotel, got a name although the woman said anyone on the front desk would do. I called Priceline back up , asked for the guy I had dealt with, and he said he would have to check with the hotel first. Five minutes later, he came back on the line, and said I would get a refund for the unused portion of my stay. Just like that. He gave me a cancellation number, and I received an email from Priceline confirming the refund. However, it took longer than the promised 5-10 days , and I had to finally INSIST I had called my bank, and the money wasn't pending. When I was finally switched to a special customer service, she confirmed I hadn't received the refund, told me I would hear from accounting in two days, and asked if I had other questions. I said what if I don't hear from them? She said convincingly, "Oh you WILL hear from them." And I did, and the refund was credited to my account within a day of that last contact. I know I'm not supposed to be able to get a refund from Priceline. I have never ever tried to get one before. But then, I never stayed at a hotel so bad that I was ready to eat the money I spent just to get out, and find someplace better. The key here , I think, was that the hotel offered the refund. Why? I don't know, other than other people were being offered the same thing. I have no hankering to go back to Vegas, but if I did, I would never use Priceline. It's just too much of a crapshoot. There's so many offers from hotels that could beat any savings from Priceline , why bother? Where did I end up staying? The Staybridge suites, just down the road from the Silverton, within spitting distance of the Mandalay Bay. I never said a word about my bad experience at the Silverton, but the clerk knew I was checking out of there early . She gave me a 5th floor corner studio suite with a magnificent view of the Strip in one direction, and of the mountains in the other direction. That place is deserving of the high Tripadvisor rating it has.
  20. Hope you enjoyed your stay and partook of the excellent breakfast buffet.
  21. I stayed at the Buf-Niagara Marriott before and after my recent trip to Las Vegas, flying out of the Buffalo airport. The night before I flew out, a Saturday before a Bills home game, the opposing team which was the Cleveland Browns this time, stayed at the hotel, along with a huge fan entourage. I understand the opposing team always stays there so keep that in mind when bidding during football season. I rode back from the airport last night with a Canadian couple who came back from a visit in San Diego. They said a lot of Canadians are using that hotel for park and fly, since it's cheaper for Canadians to fly out of Buffalo than it is to fly out of Pearson. Keep Canadian holidays in mind when bidding. Also keep in mind that their shuttle stops running at midnight. My flight was supposed to be in at 10:30, got delayed out of Las Vegas, but still made it in by 11:05 PM. However, the luggage came out very slowly, and it was just midnight when we got back to the hotel. If you have to take a taxi, be aware that the hotel is not as close to the airport as most other "airport" hotels. I'm glad I bid and got this hotel . It is a great hotel with excellent customer service.
  22. Same deal, same hotel for my late flight in. Made bids through the PRICELINE link, moderators. Thank you
  23. Moderators-booked through the PRICELINE link! Inched up from 50 through two dollar increments to 60, which was then accepted. Kinda surprised since I thought I would have to go higher for this hotel. I am interested to see if this hotel is that much better than the Millennium, which I was specifically avoiding. Last minute Weekend rates were 119.00 a night Now for the other end of my trip-the 18th
  24. Thanks Footnote: the charges have been indeed modified and better than I originally thought. If nothing changes, I am paying 204.00 for my stay. Now I'm hoping it's a nice place for my first visit to LAS!
  25. I have used Priceline a lot and should have been a little more leery on using it for Las Vegas with the lack of posts of winning bids. I originally was going to bid for resorts knowing there was only one in the Summerlin area. The Priceline site kept kicking me back to their hotel area after each bid. For the heck of it, I bid for the airport area for the 3* hotels, having seen the Residence Inn and Courtyards come up, not thinking there were the other options-like Silverton Casino, which is what I got, for 40 a night Initially surprised, but not alarmed since the place gets good reviews and the rooms are supposed to be nice. And the resort fee is not outrageous. I then checked Tripadvisor for reviews and did the price check they offer. All the sites, including Priceline's returned a ~35 a night price. I got on the phone with Priceline right away , and after dealing with a way offshore service person who took forever to "check websites" out, and then transferred me to another "supervisor", I was supposedly refunded the difference of the total trip's cost originally and the going rate. plus 25.00. So instead of paying the original 280.38, I am supposedly paying 229.35. And Priceline is emailing me a coupon for 50 off a vacation package, which I probably won't use since their packages are for two people, and I travel solo. I used the word "supposedly" because I have to wait to see the charges removed from my account. So the "Priceline Guarantee" is real and it's up to each person to decide whether it's worth it.. or not. BTW the Priceline website states that there is an option to cancel the reservation and rebook it at the lower rate, but the service people I was dealing with, were adamant that I couldn't do that.
