  1. Mad flyer, I read this post and it really worried me because I had recently won the same hotel on Priceline. Unfortunately, I can report that this also happened to me today when I arrived to check in. They were also going to send me far out of town but I told them this was not acceptable and they booked us a hotel down the street ( after much protest on our part I might add). I've never experienced such a thing in any of my previous PRICELINE bookings. when I asked her what "guaranteed reservation" meant to her hotel she didn't have a response.
  2. Was trying for the W Barcelona but I'm happy with this win. This hotel is in the new Priceline Zone Las Ramblas South - La Barceloneta I started bidding at $150 and increased my bidding incrementally 3 times, excluding other 5 star areas, until my bid was accepted.
  3. Zones in Barcelona have changed slightly. This hotel is in Las Ramblas North. Bid $150/night for 2 nights. Won on my first try. I have been bidding on Las Ramblas South (hoping for the W Barcelona) without success for June 9-11th . Will post separately if I win anything.
  4. True that. You don't get what you don't ask for. I've done it at a few other hotels where I wasn't happy with the room I was given, but I guess I was tired and the front desk staff was so unfriendly I just didn't have the energy for a fight. Just letting others know what to expect if they happen to win this property. Good luck to them!
  5. No, I didn't ask for an upgrade which is unusual for me because I'll usually at least ask. The poor reception we received at check in didn't leave me any confidence that they would care to help unfortunately.
  6. I've had pretty decent luck bidding on 4 star properties through Priceline until this one! While the hotel's location is wonderful, this is the worst room I've ever been given. The room is minuscule, it's noisy and it 's suffocatingly claustrophobic. There's a window that faces the wall and no natural light at all. I actually had a mini panic attack in my first half hour and wondered how I would manage for 3 days. I've adjusted and am hanging in there but I'd think twice about bidding on a 4 star in midtown west again. Thank God it's only a few days.
  7. Bid was accepted on my 1st try for Midtown West @ $120! New York is so expensive, especially around Christmas, but I noticed the hotel prices start to drop off the week before Christmas so I thought I'd give it a shot. Very happy with the result. Midtown West is my favorite area.
  8. Bid $110, got reply asking me to resubmit my bid at $129. Bid $112 instead and won.
  9. Congrats! It looks like a nice hotel. Glad my post helped. I learn so much from everyone who posts on these boards I make sure to always post my wins as well. I can't bring myself to pay regular hotel prices anymore :)
  10. Sorry, by mistake I posted this property as a 5* but it is a 3*.
  11. Bid $45 on 3* Vaughn, no win. Re-bid $50 on 3* Vaughn + Toronto East (no 3*). Won on the 2nd try!
  12. Thanks! It looks like a really nice hotel and as usual I'm really pleased with the amount I paid. I love Priceline and I love this site! Keep up the great work.
  13. It's very early in the game so I'd been trying my hand each day at 4* between $120 and $140. Don't know what possessed me to add downtown because it's not my favourite zone--MTW is--but I did and I won. Oh, well...at least it's a nice hotel with 1 king or 2 doubles (hate the tiny queen rooms)!
  14. Won this a month or so ago...forgot to post, but better late than never.
  15. Really wanted Fishermen's Wharf but am happy with my Union Square win! It took me about a week of continuous bidding to get this one. I started out too low at $80, bidding on 3.5-4* properties in USE, Fishermen's Wharf, SOMA, USW-Nob Hill and Embarcadero areas.
  16. A little bit more than I would have liked to spend but still very happy with my win!
  17. Started at $120 and went up in $5 increments until accepted at $135 for 8 nights.
  18. I really wanted to visit Manhattan in December but the hotel prices were too expensive, so I looked up hotels in two week ranges using Expedia to find the cheapest dates available between now and Christmas. That's how I decided which weekend to bid on. I tried for days to get a 4* in just about every zone except CPS (don't like the Loews) for multiple date ranges between Nov.19 thru 23rd. My starting bid was $125 up to a maximum of $140, moving up in $5 increments and adding a zone each bid. Finally after changing my dates from Sun-Tues I won the Hilton at a very nice price! Persistence and a bit of date flexibility definitely paid off.
  19. Scored another great price on my first attempt thanks to Better Bidding once again!
  20. Just back from our stay at the Hilton. What a wonderful property! I'd be happy to win this one again for a future visit.
  21. I've been wanting to stay at this hotel for a long time but didn't think I'd make it to NYC in November because of the hotel rates until I stumbled upon others winning the Hilton at $145. I thought I'd give it one shot and I won on the first try! Thanks, Betterbidding!
  22. Sorry, my bidding was a bit erratic for this one so I can't remember each bid, but I placed bids for CPS, MTW, MTE and Times Square from $120 up to $140. Was about to give up when this bid was accepted.
  23. Bidding history: 1st bid: 4* CPS $90 - rejected 2nd bid: 3.5* MSG - $70 - rejected 3rd bid: 2.5* Chelsea - $70 - rejected 4th bid: 3.5* ESB - $95 - accepted
