  1. Started at $25 and then kept on adding re-bid zones. Used the PRICELINE link in this forum. Marriott Chicago Schaumburg 3
  2. Started bidding at $25 and kept on adding re-bid zones. Used the PRICELINE link on this forum. Doubletree Hotel Chicago - Oak Brook 3
  3. Booked on June 5th (pretty last minute!). Amenities: Fitness, Business, Pool, Laundry, Restaurant, Internet Total: $75 + 16.62 taxes = $91.62 Used the HOTWIRE link...
  4. Excellent! Thanks AaronJB... if this forum had any reps, I would have given you a few! :)
  5. Thanks AaronJB! That is extremely useful information. I will call up the hotel and ask about the shuttle from Park Ridge. BTW, I am actually taking the Megabus from Cleveland to Union Station. It is expected to arrive at 10:30pm and I figured a 30 minute delay in my question above.
  6. Guys, needed some advice on transportation within Chicago. I will be arriving at Union Station at 11:00pm. I am planning on walking a couple of blocks (with light luggage) to Clinton CTA and then taking the Blue Line to the Sofitel (Rosemont station). Is the walking part advisable in that part of the town at that time?
  7. Pretty good price and probably the best of the lot in the ORD area. Pretty happy about this especially since did not get even a 3* downtown hotel uptil $130. Will rely on the CTA instead. Also, I believe we do not have this hotel on the priceline hotel list. A new one for the list... Started at $55 and kept adding the downtown zones until I got it at $70.
  8. Been trying for the last one and half weeks, finally got this. I think it is a pretty good deal, considering on their own website the price is $299+taxes. Three re-bid zones in Boston and with the 24 hour re-bid period from Priceline, you can try umpteen combinations. But basically, I started from $65 and worked my way up until I got this. I had been using the savingsbarn link the past few days but forgot to click it this specific day. My apologies... trying for Chicago also right now, promise will use it there!
  9. Bid at $35, Priceline came back with an offer to raise my bid by $9. I tried at $40 after few days and it was accepted! Also tried a 2 1/2 and 2* at $30 and $35 with no success. Pretty good hotel at a nice price!
  10. This region being the only one with a 4* hotel, I had the luxury of starting at $55 and finally ended up winning at $75. Looks like a pretty nice hotel. 11. Lots of 'free bid' zones in Columbus for a 4* hotel. I started at $50 and ended up winning 3 rooms at $70 each. 12. Excellent deal methinks! Started at $22, nope... Added Algonquin & $25, nope... Added Aurora & $28, ya baby! Seems like a nice hotel. This is right in line with what everyone else is getting for this hotel. Also, I used the Savings Barn PRICELINE link *proudly*. Thanks for all the information.
  13. Something bizzare happened... I saw the $35 bids people had won for Cincy 3*, so thought I will try the same for my weekend trip to the ATP Masters Tournament. Started at $40 for 4* Downtown, rejected, added 3* for $30, rejected, added two free zones uptil $40 and rejected both times. Now here is the twist... just on a whim I to have my wife try four hours later. Same route, $40 for 4* Downtown BUT then went to $35 for 3* thinking I will eventually bump it to $45 with the free bids. ACCEPTED at $35!! One of two things is possible: 1) Millenium Hotel released some rooms to Priceline within those four hours. 2) The unique combination of $40 for 4* and THEN $35 for 3* gets you the room. I think the other two Millenium Hotel winners also went straight to $35 for 3* after a $40 bid for 4*. Either way, I am happy!! :)
  14. Will be in San Francisco for a week before this weekend on company tab. Wanted to stay back an extra night, very pleased with this deal. Started at $60, stuck to USE district all the way. Used Cathedral Hill, Civic Center and South as my free bids. Snagged the Marriott at $90: Your Offer Price: $90 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 1 Subtotal: $90.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $21.11 Total Charges: $111.11
  15. I think I will take the risk of going for one room. From what I have seen, even crappy hotels like the Travelodge City Center (bad reviews on Tripadvisor) are going for $150 list price. To prepare for the worst case scenario with the double occupancy, we will be sure to pack our sleeping bag!! I will be in Montreal from the 2nd of July to the 4th of July (two nights). I did use up my free re-bids last night (do not have a lot of time left) to try for a 4* in Downtown and got nothing for $115. Have tried for a 3* uptil $65 with no success. Have not added any non-Downtown zones yet. So that is an option for me, or I can come down to a 2.5*, or wait 72 hours. I believe I am way past on the bidding amounts on whatever has been reported in these forums for Montreal... uncharted territory! Maybe you guys have more information that I do... help please!! BTW, have also looked up Hotwire and my fall back option seems to be a 4* at the Airport that I can get for $125 - there is no airport hotel in the Hotwire list and the Priceline list has the Hilton which has ok reviews, esp the recent ones. But beggars cannot be choosers.
  16. Planning on going to Montreal on the 4th of July weekend. Would prefer Downtown, and am thinking of starting with a 4*. Do not mind going uptil a 100 bucks. Is it even worth a try or should I just downgrade on the stars? I do not really have an idea of the other zones (safety, accessibility etc) but am open to suggestions. Also, does Priceline have a policy on the number of people in a room? I scanned the terms but could not find anything... maybe I missed it. Thanks! **Sorry, had posted this in the wrong forum (Bidding Tips)... have re-posted here.**
  17. Been trying this one for almost 3 weeks now (ref: last post on 04/06). Was going for a 3* in the past, decided to go for a 4* after I saw the recent spate of successful Sheraton bids (all around $55-60). My latest 72 hour period just got open... Started at $55 bid for 4* Toronto (Downtown), got a $15 bid increase offer. Kept on re-bidding up by $1 (I am cheap! ;-) Success at $62!! Thanks for all the advice on this board (thereuare / edvyr, you were right on the money!).
  18. Tried $55 (after adding Toronto East) with no success... will wait another 72 hours. *yawn*
  19. Thanks for the tips guys... I think I will bump up my last free bid in my next '72 hour' attempt to $56. I do have a feeling that I am right on the edge! A lot of people here have pointed out that the best rates fall within 2-3 weeks. I already have a Days Inn (sic!) booked, so no worries!! edvyr, thanks for pointing out Toronto East. I was committing a fundamental mistake while looking for rebid zones. To look for the rebid zones, I opened up another window with Priceline and started going back and forth with each individual zone. I DID NOT enter the real travel dates in the 'false window' and instead just went with the default dates. So both the Toronto West and East zones were greyed out. I thought that meant Priceline did not have any hotels in that area, but of course it meant that they did not have any available on the default dates in my second window. *duh* Struck me right after you posted... thanks!
  20. I have been trying Toronto downtown (3 and 4 star only) for the last couple of weeks now. Have gone upto $54 max, and been using Brampton and S'Pickering as my free bids. Going by past winning bids, looks like the Sheraton (downtown) had low rates closer to the travel dates. Since my travel dates are 05/04-05/08 I am going to keep on hacking away! Hotwire shows 'customer favorite' (i.e. Sheraton?) at ~$75. So I am guessing I am in the ballpark. Any advice?? BTW, thereuare... GO BUCKS!! :)
  21. This is encouraging news for me... looks like atleast with the Sheraton there is better chance of getting a low bid closer to the travel dates. I have been trying Toronto downtown (31/2 and 4 star only) for the last couple of weeks now. Have gone upto $54 max, and been using Brampton and S'Pickering as my free bids. Since my travel dates are 05/04-05/08 I am going to keep on hacking away! Hotwire shows 'customer favorite' i.e. Sheraton at ~$75. So I am guessing I am in the ballpark. Any advice??
