  1. We already did one bidding attempt using our 7 free rebids, starting at $40 and up to $72, not successful. Wondering if it was the Saturday night only stay, we added Friday night and got up to $55, not successful. Thought we'd ask for some advice before trying again. Sample 4* rates for that night: Westin - $179 Marriott - $132 Park Hyatt - $169 Hyatt Penn's Landing - $205 Hilton at Penn - $139 (all from hotel web sites) I realize this is mixing up the topics of the two boards and will go post on the HW board for consistency, but there is a 3 1/2 star center city east HW hotel listed for $63, couldn't figure out which one by amenities, are we better off grabbing that one based on our PL experience or should we wait and try again? I will note that we need to be downtown, we are going to a party that will involve much drinking and we want to be cab distance. hence the airport area or across the river is not really an option. Thanks for any advice.
  2. I am a local and used to live in Hoboken, which is a great, small little city with vintage/original architecture. It is also the birthplace of Frank Sinatra and some folks consider it to be the birthplace of baseball. There is a fantastic music club (Maxwell's, see maxwellsnj.com), and many restaurants and bars along Washington St., the main drag. All of this is a short walk from the Hoboken PATH station, Hoboken is only 1 mile square! Jersey City has changed a lot and improved a lot - the area where this hotel now sits was once a vast wasteland - but Hoboken imho has far more character. Of course, with NYC right across the river, why waste your time in Hoboken, I completely understand. But, thought I'd offer this as an alternative to people thinking about going to the *mall* for food.
  3. We seem to be the only people in the world who could not get this hotel for $37 or close to it, I can't go into details how I know this because it breaks some Priceline rule, but bidding began at $37 and went incrementally up the 40s, we were giving up and conceding we were going to be spending the weekend in Secaucus (we are locals who are temporarily living with family until our Manhattan apt lease starts in August) when the $55 bid got us this hotel. While not as great a deal as $37 I still think it's a great bargain. p.s. sorry i messed up the bid post format.
