  1. Bid 3-star for $40, didn't get it. Lowered to 2-star ("upscale") and raised bid to $45, got it. I think I could probably have gotten a 3-star for about the same, but I didn't want to wait a day to re-bid as our stay date was approaching. I also didn't want to risk getting a hotel in the other VA Beach areas. Rate: $45.00 Rooms: 1 Nights: 3 Room Subtotal: $135.00 Taxes & Fees: $29.76 Total Charged to Card: $164.76 All in all, still not a bad deal. Used the BB PRICELINE link, of course!
  2. Many thanks to travelma who had just posted getting it at $45 when I was booking this, I knew at what price to start! Bid at $43 for a 4-star and didn't get it. Bid at $45 while lowering the desired star-rating to 3 1/2. Bid accepted, still got a 4-star! Room Cost (avg. per room, per night): $45.00 (USD) Number of Nights: 4 Room Subtotal: $180.00 (USD) Taxes and Fees: $38.48 (USD) Total Room Cost: $218.48 (USD) Used the BB PRICELINE link, of course!
  3. Bid $50 for a 4-star, of course no go; then $51 for a 3.5-star, still a no go. Bid $52 for a 3-star and got this, seems like a good deal. Reviews seem to be good so am curious to see if it is better than the typical 2-star Red Lion. Offer Price: $52.00 Rooms: 1 Nights: 2 Room Subtotal: $104.00 Taxes & Fees: $24.68 Total Charged to Card: $128.68 Used the BB PRICELINE link, of course.
  4. Was unsuccessful last week even when I went up to $70/night. The next day, Priceline emailed me a promo for $5 bonus cash a day and I used that to bump it up to $75/night and still didn't get it. So I waited and tried again tonight, didn't expect to get it but did on the first try! Now I wonder if I should've started at $60/night, hehe... Room Cost (avg. per room, per night): $65.00 (USD) Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Guests Per Room: 2 Number of Nights: 3 Room Subtotal: $195.00 (USD) Taxes and Fees: $35.22 (USD) Total Room Cost: $230.22 (USD) Used the BB PRICELINE link, of course.
  5. 3.5* Richmond (Downtown) Doubletree $50 10/22/11-10/25/11 Room Subtotal: $150.00 Taxes & Fees: $29.16 Total Charged to Card: $179.16 Used the BB PRICELINE link, of course. This rate was actually my first bid! Maybe I should've started at $40, then moved to $45/$50 while going down a star level to 3*. Oh well, I'm still pretty happy, as the event we are going to is in Downtown. I was fully expecting to end up paying $50-60/night for some hotel in the RIC (Richmond Airport) area, which is about 6 miles away. So this was a nice surprise. Thanks again!
  6. A last minute booking that worked out. Amenities: Airport Shuttle Fitness Center Pool(s) Restaurant(s) Business Center High-speed Internet Access I used the HOTWIRE link.
  7. Constraints: HAD to be 4-star AND be in Union Square East. Didn't mind getting either the Grand Hyatt or Westin St Francis Bid History (making use of free rebids because of lack of 4-stars in the other areas): $80 Union Square East (4-star) $85 Union Square East, SF South (4-star) $90 Union Square East, SF South, Civic Center -- BINGO (4-star)
  8. It's not quite Union Square, but for New Year's Eve I just got $115 for the Hyatt Embarcadero on Priceline. Here's my post about it: Priceline San Francisco (Embarcadero) Hyatt Regency Can't find any rooms under $150 in Hotwire now, so went to Priceline. New Year's Eve rooms are definitely filling up..
  9. Take note that this is a one-day stay on *New Year's Eve.* Two weeks ago, there were 4-star hotels were under $150 on Hotwire, but not anymore! So, I went to Priceline and got this just in time before everything filled up. Bidding strategy (please tell me if I could've done it better): $100 for 4-star and up at Union Sq East $105 for 3 1/2 star and up at Union Sq East $105 for 3 1/2 star and up at Union Sq East, Union Sq West/Nob Hill $110 for 3 1/2 star and up at Union Sq East, Union Sq West/Nob Hill, SOMA $115 for 3 1/2 star and up at Union Sq East, Union Sq West/Nob Hill, SOMA, Financial/Embarcadero -- BINGO
  10. So, yesterday I posted that I got the Westin for a 4-star in downtown LA, with the following amenities: Pool, Restaurant, Fitness, Hi Speed Internet Business (According to the Hotwire list, same as the Omni.) The hotel that turned out to be the Westin yesterday had a "Trip Advisor" Section. This hotel does not. Does this mean this is the Omni now? Or is the TripAdvisor section a random/not-so-reliable thing to depend on in order to distinguish similar hotels? I'm thinking of extending my stay, preferably at the Westin since I'm going to be there already the first day. Current rate for the Westin is $135 at their site. So the choice is either save $35/night but risk moving, or just pay it for the certainty of not moving. Any experienced advice is appreciated.
  11. Made a last-minute (two days before) reservation for 8/14/08 - 8/15/08. Saw a four-star available for $113, figured it might not last so got it right away. Amenities: Restaurant, Pool, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Business "Best Value" was checked. Tripadvisor was showing 3.5 out of 5 Based on: 300+ customer reviews Last Reviewed: July 2008 Expected the Omni though I wanted the Westin. Got the Westin! Total Cost -------------------- Rate per night: $113.00 Tax recovery charges and fees: $20.23 Total Price: $133.23 I made the reservation thru the HOTWIRE link, too. Hope this helps somebody!
