  1. Me and my wife had a blast this past Sept in NYC, and were thinking about going back. If we went in the summer, I know the rates are lower, but are they similar in June and August, or is June more expensive?

I wanted to get a decent rate on a 4* in UM/CPS, but wanted to avoid July or Aug in NYC if possible.

Thereuare, do you know? (Of course, I know you do...)

  2. Ok, start a bid at $170 for 4* in UM/CPS, if rejected, go to $180 and add MTW, if rejected, go to $199 and add UES, and finally, to $225 and add MTE

If you get rejected by all, then start a new request at 3*, using the same dollar amounts. You might want to make sure that the zones are in the order of your favorite first, etc. I love UM/CPS, and MTE isn't bad, and UES. Make sure you are ok with any of the 3* hotels on the list that may come up.

I recently got the Park Central, which is 3* in UM/CPS, and while reviews are mixed, I thought it was fine, and enjoyed my stay there.

    Good luck!

  3. I wouldn't worry too much about the smoking, non smoking. Priceline reservations can't be altered in the system but they will very likely ask you when you check in. Just let them know then, and you should be ok.

If you get a smelly room, let them know and they should try to move you.

I use Priceline almost exclusively, and have never had to stay in a smoking room, so you should be ok.

  4. I don't know if this is a general forum also, but I have a question on rates during different times of the year.

I would like to go to Hawaii again next summer(2005) between June and Sept sometime. Which of these months is the least expensive for hotels, specifically Waikiki in Oahu.

I have been to Waikiki twice(both Priceline), and stayed at the Sheraton Princess each time for about $65 a night or so, and my wife would like to stay in that same area again.

Might all these months be near the same price?

  5. If you haven't tried 4 stars yet, you can start a new request at 4 stars, then add 3 stars to that bid.

Thereuare is the NYC guru, but I am guessing that if you select 4 star in UM/CPS at $185(probably not going to be accepted, but who knows), then go down to 3 stars and lower the bid to $150, you may get the Park Central, if that is ok with you.

  6. Well, I will assume you don't have an unlimited budget, so we will keep it simple and cap it at $185 for now, since you have some time still.

Start a new bid, select UM/CPS and 4 stars at $185(if in your budget). I feel that this is the best area, so trying to be here is worth the shot...

If rejected, then add 3 star level, still in UM/CPS, and change bid down to $148.

See if this gets you the Park Central.. if not, then start a new bid at 4 stars in MTE for $160, if rejected, add MTW and raise to $170, and if rejected add UM CPS and raise to $180 and see if anything is accepted. If you are willing to stay at any 3 star in these 3 areas, then if all the 4 stars are rejected in the new request, then you can add the 3 star level and lower the bid to $155.

No need to worry if rejected at this point, since you have about 2 more weeks and can try again after 3 days and raise the prices a bit if you need to..

Good luck. FYI, I stayed in the Park Central(3 star) in the UM/CPS area, and had a great time with my wife. This was Sept 24th thru the 28th. You can walk to Central Park and Times Square in no time.

  7. What dates are you looking for? What is your budget per nite? You didn't give much info.

I feel that the UM/CPS area is the best in NYC, and then MTE, which has hotels like the Grand Hyatt, Waldorf, Radisson Lexington, and Marriott Eastside.. among others.

MTW is in the heart of things, covering the Times Square area, and has some nice hotels.

What are your dates and budget?

  8. Thereuare, thanks! I didn't know there was a 4* in MTS. Good to know for my next trip there.

Dook, since the time is short, on your next bid you may want to bump the 4* level up to $205 or $210, since you will get only one more shot at it, so try this:

Start your new bid with UM/CPS(this is the best area in NY, imo) at $210 a night for 4 stars,

if rejected, then add MTW and lower the bid amount to $170,

if rejected, then add MTE and raise the bid amount to $185

if rejected, then add UES(free re-bid zone) and raise to $195

If all these are rejected, you might consider the 3 star places. If Quickbook has the Park Central for $199, then based on what I have seen in the past, you can probably get it for less on Priceline(it is in the UM/CPS area) for maye $145-150. I just stayed there, and is a nice enough hotel, with a great location.

Good luck!! Thereuare, thanks also.. you are the man!

  9. Sorry, just to add, if the quality of the hotel room is slightly more important than saving around $40 per night or so, then I would wait and try the 4 stars again later. But, the 3 star places are not that far behind the 4 star places in terms of quality, but it just depends on the place you get. Good luck!

  10. Too bad, i was hoping you could get it for $180 or less.

Have you thought about a 3 star hotel? If so, check the list of 3 star hotels in the areas that you want, and if they are generally acceptable, then you could add that star level.

If you do, then repeat the same process, except like this:

Start a new bid with the 3 star level, at say, $135 a nite, starting with UM/CPS, then

if rejected, add MTW and go to $145

if rejected add MTE and go to $155

Just remember, you should be willing to stay at any of the 3 star places, as there is no guarantee which one you will get. I just stayed at the Park Central, and it was pretty nice. The Hudson in the UM/CPS area has very small rooms, I hear.

If you really want to get a 4 star, then i suggest waiting 72 hours, then repeat what you did the first time, but start at $165, then raise $10 each try with a max of $195

  11. Without going too much into the technicalities... try this:

Select MTW as the area, and 4 stars, start at $150...

if rejected go to $160 and add UM/CPS...

if rejected, go to $170 while adding MTS(a free re-bid zone, as there are no 4 stars there)...

if rejected, then go to $180 and add UES(free re-bid zone)

if rejected, add MTE and stay at $180

Wow, I am sounding like thereuare now... lol!

  12. Me and the wife stayed at the Park Central from Sept 24th to Sept 28th, for 4 nights. This hotel is very good, and we would definitely stay there again.

The lobby is nice and modern, check in was easy and quick.

The room was smallish but for NYC, not bad. We had a view of Carnegie Deli from our 6th floor room. The AC worked well, but we didn't use it much since it was relatively cool. The bathroom was just fine as well.

The room was clean and neat, and had none of the negatives that are stated in some reviews(tripadvisor).

The walk to Central Park is 5 minutes, and you can get to CP, Times Square, the Plaza Hotel, 5th Ave, and others very easily. Great location!!

I liked this place, and would stay there again without hesitation.

  13. Me and my wife stayed at the Grand Hyatt from Sept 28th til Oct 1st, for 3 nights. This hotel was great!

The lobby is large and impressive, and the rooms were large and clean. We got a queen bed and a view of the Chrysler building and Lexington Ave. The room had a walk in closet... awesome! The TV was nice, and the channels were plentiful. The bathroom was small but nice and clean and new.

The location is great, right next to Grand Central Station. We took the subways and buses everywhere.

This was a great hotel and we look forward to going there again.. we loved it.

Staff was great as well. Did not eat there or anything, though.

  14. Also, at quickbook.com, for that night there is:

Howard Johnson Plaza Hotel for $149

Quality Hotel on Broadway for $149

    Gershwin Hotel for $137

    Best Western President for $149

Quality Hotel Times Square for $132

Sheraton Suites on the Hudson for $148

Also a couple others, but they don't look so good...

    Good luck!

  15. Yes, that is true. Camasite, you are going to NYC during a busy time, and the rates will be sky high. $140 might be a real problem...

Looking at QUICKBOOK, I see the Quality Hotel on Broadway for $126 per night, but I have not heard of the hotel or ever been there. Pictures look ok.

Expedia has nothing in the City less than $179 for those dates...

    Good luck.

Maybe you could try raising your bid by a small amount, say, $9.. to $149.

    It can't hurt...

  16. It would probably help to split your bid, so you should start a new bid, at 4*, and go up to the max of $140.

With the mix and match, you should start with a request for 10/13 thru 10/16, which is 3 nights, then, if rejected in all areas, adjust the dates.

If rejected for 3 nites, then make your request 2 nites, then 4 nites, then 5 nites, starting with 10/13 as your beginning date.

Then, change the starting date to 10/14 and 5 nites

Then... start date 10/15 for 4 nites.. and so on and so on

There are many combinations to try if these don't work, but you want to try many so that you may end up with at least a couple nites in a 4* hotel, if there are any available for $140. Splitting will give you your best shot at getting a decent price for at least a couple of the nites, but October is an expensive time of year for NYC.

I did a similar thing for my trip beginning Sept 24th, and ended up with the Park Central for 4 nites, and Grand Hyatt for 3 nites. This was actually perfect, as my wife now gets to see two parts of town.

    Good luck!

  17. I recently stayed at the Hyatt Regency LLV over Labor day weekend. I got my room through Priceline at about $75 a night, not bad. Overall, the stay was nice, but not absolutely positive I would stay there again.

    Positives:

    -Nice pools

    -Nice golf course

    -Nice views

    -Tranquil setting

    -Restaurants were not too busy

-Rooms were nice, not luxurious, but nice enough.

    -Mini-fridge in room

    -Plenty of parking

-Small casino was not busy, so if you had a group of friends, you could gamble at the same table

    Not so positives:

-Casino is small, and not even close to giving you a Strip Casino feel

    -No sports book

-Not that many channels on the TV, like HBO or Fox Sports

-Water temp of the pool was too cold, it needed to be maybe 6-8 degrees warmer, it really should not be that cold... it kept people out.

-The kayak rental was too expensive... $20 an hour. Too much for my taste

-There will always be a bunch of kids around

-30 min drive to the Strip

Overall, I would say 3 stars only. If the pool were warmer, and cheaper equipment rental, and maybe a sports lounge, that would put it at 4 stars. But not right now.

  18. There is a Howard Johnson(Penn Station) for about $130 a night thru Expedia.

    Also:

Quality Hotel on Broadway for $145

Quality Hotel Times Square for $163

Nothing in NYC lower than that through Expedia. Quickbook doesn't have much either.

I would say keep trying thru Priceline, using your max bid and covering all the zones you want the most, and start at 4 stars, then go to 3, then 2.5

Good luck, you should be able to get something at less than $150... maybe :)
