  1. What a usefull site, rykos, thanks, I've put it in my favourites. If we get a good deal, we will certainly know what to do :)! Thanks for the explanation about the St. Louis zones too, muchado, all information is welcome.
  2. Thanks for your suggestions, muchado. I think I will start bidding for a 3.5* soon too at a lower bid (one can always try...). I will certainly consider parking at the Mansion House. It's worth the walk... We are not flexible with the dates, as this stay is part of our Route66 trip. I will have to accept that 50$, as most wins reported here, will not be possible for our dates. But I'm hoping some rooms will be added to the "pot" in the future. Now I sometimes have the feeling Priceline comes back to me way to fast, right after I've placed my bid, "resubmit" already appears in the header of the page. It looks like there is no 4* inventory to check :). Is Forest Park worth to consider if you're visiting St. Louis for the first time? Is this a nice neighbourhood?
  3. Thanks Travelma!! Maybe I should look for tickets too then :). I assume prices will not go down then, or at least not a lot. I am really hoping to get the Renaissance or Mariott and will continue trying for at least another month. But off course I would be happy too with a good deal for a 3.5* hotel. If this does not work either, I wil not risk a rundown 3* (thanks for the tip!), but book through HOTWIRE instead.
  4. Thanks theruare. Splitting the bid is not an option, I'm willing to pay more to keep the stay in one hotel. I might have guessed there was something with my dates... Today, I bid up to 105$, still rejected with no counteroffer. I will keep trying, staying below 100$ for now. If this does not work, I think I should consider a 3.5* hotel. Will post my (hopefully) winning bid.
  5. Since April, I have been bidding for a 4* star hotel in Downtown St. Louis for 2nights (17 to 19 September). So far, none of my attempts have been succesful. In the beginning (from April to June), I started with 50$, added free rebid zones and bid up to 65$. Rejected every time. The last few weeks, I have been raising the bids and started at 70$, raising up until 93$ (which was way above the bid I had in mind at start). But even at 93$, the bid was rejected, not even got a counteroffer... I would really like a 4* hotel Downtown at a maximum of 79$, and considering I still have time, I'm not willing to go for a 3.5* (not yet). What should I do? Wait until September? Is St. Louis a town where you can wait until the very last moment? Thanks, I used the PRICELINE link for all my attemps and will continue to do so.
  6. I have been trying since April to book a 4* hotel in Downtown St. Louis. from 17 to 19 September. Even at 95$ (which was way above what I intended to bid when I started, but sometimes you get impatient :) ) my offer was rejected. I hope you're right that prices lower as September approaches. I would like to have a 4* at a maximum of 79$. How can you see if there are major conventions in St. Louis? I googled it three times, but could not find a good site... Needless to say I used the PRICELINE link for all my attempts and will continue to do so. I will share my (hopefully) winning bid in a different thread.
  7. Started with 80$, downtown LA. Counteroffer of 102 (add 22$), rejected and added Hollywood zone (which is not a real free rebid, but prices are higher there and would be fine too) at 85$. Accepted by Omni. We were looking for a hotel close to the Dodger's stadium because we are going to the game that night. So this hotel is perfect! As always, I used the PRICELINE.com link to start bidding.
  8. Have been trying to get a 4* hotel in the Plaza area over the last weeks, raising the bid everytime. Yesterday my bid was rejected at 120$, no counteroffers. Today I started at 125$ for a 4* hotel with the plaza area, counteroffer of 147$ (add 22$). Rejected the counteroffer and added free rebid zone for 130$. Accepted by the La Posada. Rates start at 300$ at their own site and on Expedia, so I'm happy. Reviews seem a bit mixed on tripadvisor, but we will see for ourselves. It looks like a very nice property. I used the PRICELINE link for all my attempts :).
  9. Hi, For this bid, I started with 55$. Counteroffer of 70$. Rejected and added free re-bid zone at 60$. Accepted by Sheraton. Prices at their own site start at 200$, so I'm happy. Off course, I used the PRICELINE link to start bidding.
  10. Yes, off coure you're right about my comparison of rates. :). Thanks for the website, great tip, I put it in my favourites. And we will check the lobby of Palmer House too.
  11. Thanks! Indeed, Burnham is part of the Kimpton group. I certainly look forward to staying there. I've been doing some research about the Reliance building and its architecture. It looks marvellous. I could not have hoped for a better deal than this. I've seen wins here for the Hyatt or Palmer House at 60-80$, but I do not mind paying a bit more to get the Burnham then.
  12. Hi Aaron, Glad to hear that. I was kind of hoping to get a historic building such as Palmer House, but this one is even nicer then!
  13. Hi, After 3 weeks of conservative bidding for a 4 star hotel in the Millenium and NMA area, my bid was accepted today. Over the last 3 weeks, I started every 24 hours with the same bidding strategy: first Millenium-Loop zone, then adding the NMA zone for 5$ more. I started at 60$ in the beginning, and the last few days, I started at 90$. Considering I still had plenty of time, I did not try the free rebidding zones but played safe and only picked the zones that I was interested in. Today I started at 95$ with the Millenium-Loop zone, got a counteroffer of 117$, rejected and added 5$. Offer accepted at 100$. I'm happy with the result, considering the prices on Hotwire are quite high for these dates (starts at 170$ for this zone) and rates on their own site start at 260$. In addition, the Burnham hotel apparently has great reviews on Tripadvisor. I used the PRICELINE link to start bidding :) Thanks for this great site!
  14. Hi Belliez, We will also drive Route 66 in September, start in Chicago, drop off in LA. Perhaps I can help with your question about the rental car. You could check www.usareisen.de/mietwagen and look at the offers for National. The site is in German, but it is easy to navigate your way round. The red rates (super-inklusiv-plus) have all insurances included, extra drivers and the first tank of petrol. I'm not German myself, but we had no problem booking our car there (we rented a midsize SUV). They have incredible rates for their cars, and National has the extra benefit that you only pay 250$ drop fee (all other companies will charge you 500$ for a one-way rental from Chicago to LA). If you book your car in Europe, you are also sure that all necessary insurances are included. It might be that Orbitz does not include them all for Europeans and that you have to pay extra at the counter. http://www.carhire3000.com/ might be another option, but then you would have to contact the site to make sure you get National. If you have questions, please let me know.
  15. Hi, Just won the Adrema Hotel in Berlin for two nights. Total price for 2 nights: $127. Would have cost $156 through their website. Not a major difference, but I'm happy. Amenities were: restaurant. I used the website's HOTWIRE link to start my purchase. Thanks!
  16. Hi, Just wanted to share my first winning bid on PRICELINE: Started 100$ (Downtown), counter-offered 122$. Added re-bid zones, accepted by Golden Nugget at 109$. The Golden Nugget was the hotel I aimed for. I'm very glad with the price too, apparently prices in September are a lot higher than July/August. Thank you very much for this great site!
