  1. Used the Priceline Express Coupon link from here -- thanks for the coupon! Happy with the win; I've stayed here before and like the property. Total price for the stay = CAD434 - $17 coupon = CAD417 Amenities as listed in the PE search: Free Internet Business Center Fitness Center Non Smoking Pets Allowed Restaurant Swimming Pool
  2. Using the hotel lists here, was hoping for the Residence Inn but got the Best Western London Airport Inn & Suites, which doesn't appear on the list. This is the first time the lists have failed me! But I fully understand that nothing is guaranteed with the lists (and London, Ontario probably isn't a very popular destination among board users!). I wasn't at all pleased with the win -- this hotel is really nowhere near downtown London and probably shouldn't even be considered "Central" London. But it is what it is. I'm happy though to contribute an update to the hotel lists which I've always found helpful and reliable. The bid was CAD80, total of CAD98.25 with taxes. I ended up eating the cost and sticking with a backup reservation I had at the Holiday Inn Express because it was more central to downtown. I also forgot to use the PRICELINE link here (sorry!) which I normally do...so not a great booking all around!
  3. I've stayed here before so happy with the win and the price. Thanks again for the hotel lists here to help make this choice! Amenities confirmed at checkout: Pet friendly, Smoke-free rooms, Fitness center, Pool(s), Restaurant(s), Business center, Self-service laundry, Internet access Accessible for visually impaired, Accessible for hearing impaired, Accessible path of travel, In-room accessibility, Accessible bathroom, Accessible parking, Roll-in shower
  4. Started bidding at CAD90; counter offered at CAD122 -- continued to bid in $5 increments, accepted at CAD115/night -- CAD421 with taxes for the three nights. Very happy with the win; have stayed here before numerous times. As always, the hotel lists here for Name Your Own Price and Express Deals were very helpful for narrowing down location and bidding strategy. Looks like the same hotel is listed on Express Deal for CAD122/night. I used the PRICELINE link here to book.
  5. I was able to identify this hotel pretty easily by the descriptions offered here -- particularly the pet policies -- thanks BetterBidding! Total for the stay is CAD560; I had a backup booking at the same hotel for CAD790 so I'm very pleased with my win. Amenities: Free Internet (in Room) Pet Friendly Outdoor Pool Non-Smoking Gym Restaurant Handicap Accessible Business Center
  6. Have been trying for this period for some time; noticed a pretty steep drop in 4* downtown Montreal prices on Hot.wire and PRICELINE EXPRESS deals today so thought I'd try the bidding first. Strategy: Financial District -- CAD90 -- rejected FD + zone 1 -- CAD100 -- countered at CAD124 FD + zone 1/2 -- CAD110 -- countered at CAD126 FC + zone 1/2/3 -- CAD115 -- accepted Total CAD425 -- cheaper than the Hot.wire and Pl Express deals. Current prepaid rate is CAD202 so happy with the deal. I've stayed at the property before and glad I got it again so I can use my SPG benefits. I used the PRICELINE link here to book. Thanks for your great service!
  7. This property was listed on PRICELINE EXPRESS deals with only two amenities -- pet friendly and fitness centre. It was rated 8.0+ and showed "Guest Favourite." For these reasons I thought it would be the Hotel Nikko (based on other postings here) but turned out to be the Clift. I've stayed at Nikko previously so was a bit disappointed with getting the Clift, but it shows some pretty decent reviews. And the price was right, especially for a Canadian and the state of our dollar! I had bid up to CAD170/night for FD/Embarcadero (the area I prefer) but was getting no hits and it was getting too expensive for my taste. The same hotel is currently on sale on Hotels.com (Canada) for $223/night, so I am pleased with the price. This PRICELINE EXPRESS deal was listed as USD$117 before switching to CAD. I booked the property using the PRICELINE link here.
  8. I had been trying the past week to get a room in Key West (Old or New Town) for this weekend without success, from CAD180-260, 2.5* and up. Today had success at CAD260 with the Sheraton Suites Key West. Pretty happy because it looks like a decent property, the rack rate is USD409 before tax, and I ideally wanted a room on the Friday night rather than Saturday. Not as pleased with the relatively unadvertised USD25 resort fee, but that's life (and I go to Vegas a lot, I'm used to it). I'm only there for one night so not a big deal for me, but something to be aware of. Total with taxes is CAD338.17 (in addition to the resort fee paid on site). Was hoping for something much cheaper but it appears to be a very in demand weekend.
  9. Took a few tries; no traction on anything below CA$100. On my first attempts, started getting a counter-offer of $137 on a $100 bid. On April 22, no counter-offers up to CA$110. On April 23, I was successful with the Hyatt Regency at CA$110. I've stayed at this property before and I'm quite pleased with my win; regular rates are CA$229. The total with taxes/fees came to CA$395. Used the PRICELINE link here to book.
  10. Have been bidding for a while (sometimes up to $140/night) for FD-Embarcadero with no results. Today, won Hyatt Regency SF for $95 -- quite pleased. I stayed here once previously (booked through Priceline at $165/night!) and it was excellent. Bidding: $85 -- countered at $105 Added zone -- $90 -- countered at $105 Added zone -- $95 -- accepted $340 w/tax & fees Had previously received counter offers for $137 for the same time period when bidding in the $115-120 range. Used the PRICELINE links here to book.
  11. Booked this with yesterday's 24 hour "bonus cash" promotion I received by e-mail. Final bid price was $160 + $5 bonus cash. I have been trying for quite a while for a booking for these dates. Is something special happening in San Fran at this time? This is the most I've ever paid on Priceline for this area. Previously stayed at Le Meridien for $110 (although that was August 2009). I do notice a booking just before my dates at the Hyatt for $85/night. Usually started my bidding at $95-$100/night and worked up higher using various combinations. Accepted at $165 with the bonus cash with no counter offers during the bidding. Final calculations: Bonus cash - $20 Offer price - $160/night Subtotal: $640 Taxes: $115.04 Total: $755.04 Still a good savings off regular price. Used the PRICELINE link here to book.
  12. Started bidding at $60/night. At $70, was counter-offered at $90. Accepted at $85, Gloucester-Hull-Ottawa zones. US$202 with taxes. Used the PRICELINE link here to book. Have stayed here before so quite pleased with the win.
  13. Took a few tries starting at US$70. Used current Bonus Cash promotion, so my bid was actually US$95 + US$10 bonus dollars -- $105 total. Total cost to me with taxes: US$463.52 Current bonus cash promotion -- through July 27 -- Priceline Bonus Cash Used the PRICELINE links here to make the booking. Have not stayed here before, but TripAdvisor reviews look good. Will post review upon return.
  14. I've posted a review of my stay in the Hotel Reviews on this site.
  15. Hi all -- I've posted a review of my stay on TripAdvisor and the text is below. I booked this hotel on PRICELINE for USD$105 + taxes. Frankly, I've never paid that much for a 4* hotel in Montreal before, and I feel like I've gotten better value for my money elsewhere (Hyatt Regency & Delta Centre-Ville, for example, both under USD$80/night). However, it seemed to be a busy time in Montreal and hotel rooms were in short supply, which might explain the higher nightly cost. At any rate -- the good points: The location of the hotel is excellent -- a short walk from the train station (where I arrived) and the hotel is right on top of the Bonaventure Metro station, directly accessible from an elevator in the hotel lobby. It was very easy to walk to Ste-Catherine street and Old Montreal. The lobby is classic and features a Starbucks (although its opening hours seemed rather short). Front desk and room service staff were excellent. A big plus was free wireless Internet, in room and in the lobby. I did order room service once, and the food was excellent. The bed, too, was excellent, as was the view, but.... The not-so-good points: The rooms. Others have said it here and it is true, the rooms are in need of a major refresh. My room was a king on a high floor, and it looked exactly as represented in the king room pictures the hotel provides on its website. The room was clean, but tired, and the furniture is slightly damaged and not particularly new. The bigger problem was the first room they gave me -- on the 33rd floor -- had a very noticeable humming/buzz that permeated the whole room -- seemed to be in the walls. In fact, you could hear it on the floor in general. I asked for another room and was given another one on the same floor -- but with the same buzz, although quieter this time. Eventually I got used to it, but it was somewhat annoying all the same. I actually got off the elevator at other floors to see if the buzz was there, and it wasn't -- so you may want to avoid the 33rd floor -- and maybe the floors around it. All in all, while the rooms were a bit outdated, the stay was pleasant and the location and service can't be beat. Had I paid rack rate for the room, I think I would not have been happy. Even $105 I thought was pushing it, but I have seen rooms at this hotel go for $80-90/night, which would be more in line with what it offers. A real refresh of the rooms would make a big difference. Two tips for getting around: (1) If you are arriving by train, you can walk underground to this hotel, by following the signs to Bonaventure Metro station -- be warned though, there are plenty of luggage unfriendly stairs and revolving doors on the way. If the weather is nice, I suggest walking on the street -- it is a block away. (2) Montreal transit (STM) now offers a weekly pass, from Monday-Sunday, in addition to its tourist passes (1 and 3 days). Passes now use an electronic chip card, which you have to pay for (up to $7.00, depending when you buy) in addition to the pass cost. Current prices are available on the STM website--but either way, the passes are a great deal since the subway gets you most places in Montreal so you can avoid high cab fees. And a final tip if you are a business traveler -- the business centre at the hotel is very expensive ($0.50/page for b&w printing!). There is a Staples/Business Depot/Bureau en gros at the central train station with an excellent copy-and-print centre -- use them instead. I needed to print a number of reports which I took to them on a memory key and they produced them in 20 minutes at a very good price.
  16. Hi all -- I've made a booking on Priceline (Name your Own Price) and I've had to cancel my trip. I know I can't cancel the booking for a refund (I have travel insurance so not concerned) but should I let the hotel know I will not be coming, or does it not matter? First time this has happened -- hopefully last! Thanks.
  17. Don't recall the bidding strategy exactly, but took many tries, starting at US$70. Highest I've had to pay for 4* in Montreal yet (but usually don't go in prime season). US$876.05 with taxes/fees.
  18. US$80 accepted on first try. US$100.66 with taxes/fees
  19. Booked this on May 3, don't remember the bidding strategy, sorry. USD$253.22 total with taxes.
  20. Bid $107 + $3.57 in bonus dollars for total of $110.57/night Room Cost -- $749 Taxes -- $134.22 Total -- $883.22 (USD) Cheapest on the hotel website for those dates is $211/night (with taxes). I'm Canadian but even with the exchange it's an excellent price! Bidding strategy: 4* Financial District-Embarcadero -- $90.57 ($87 + $3.57) -- rejected 4* Financial District... & Civic Center -- $95.57 ($92 + $3.57) -- counter offer option -- $22 increase 4* Financial District... & Fishermans Wharf -- $97.57 ($94 + $3.57) -- counter offer option -- $22 increase 4* Financial District... & Marina District -- $110.57 ($107 + $3.57) -- accepted I really wanted Le Meridien and I saw on the Calendar of Wins it had gone on similar dates for $110 a night so I went for it and was successful. I could have tried lower but took my chances and I'm delighted, given the great reviews the hotel gets. I used the PRICELINE link on this site to make the booking. Thanks again to this site for its excellent help!! AL
  21. Hi -- As I understand it, Hotwire only lists one hotel for each star rating and the hotel that gets listed is the one offering the lowest nightly rate. So it may be that the Hilton is offering rooms at a lower price, so it gets listed. Or it could be that the Sheraton has no rooms left to offer. I don't think anyone would be able to tell you whether or not it would appear again. Based on personal experience I've seen hotels disappear for days or weeks and then reappear. That being said, I recently read on this board that if you increase the number of people in each room (to 3 people instead of 2) you sometimes get different choices -- but these may be at a higher cost due to the extra person. What I would be interested in knowing is if you do up the number of people in the room, do hotels check on that? I would assume not but one never knows.... AL
  22. The Listel Hotel -- listed on HOTWIRE with the following amenities: Boutique Hotel Smoke Free Rooms Fitness Center Restaurant(s) Business Center High-speed Internet Access Total with taxes for 6 nights -- $492.47USD. Used the HOTWIRE link here to make the booking.
  23. Amenities - smoke free - restaurant - high-speed internet - fitness - business ctr - tennis nearby - pool - laundry $43/night -- with taxes, total cost $153.91 AL
  24. Can anyone help identifying these hotels in Downtown Vancouver (West) -- they don't seem to match up exactly with any on the Hotwire hotel list here: 4* hotel - non-smoking - fitness - restaurant - business centre - high-speed internet (Listel without boutique designation???) 3.5* hotel - boutique - shuttle - fitness - pool - restaurant - laundy - internet - kitchenette (Pacific Palisades listed at 4* in hotel list?) 3* condo - condo - suite - 1B suite - kitchenette - front desk 24hrs Thanks in advance for any help! AL
  25. Successful bidding strategy on Sept 13: 4* Quebec -- $70 - rejected 4* Quebec/Beauport - $75 - rejected 4* Quebec/Ste Foy - $80 -- accepted $80/night + $35.45 taxes = $195.45 total for two nights. Works out to about CAD$206, so a ~$47 dollar savings (overall) from booking direct. Saw a 4* on Hotwire at $100 which then dropped to $85 so figured I could get cheaper on Priceline. Had previously tried Priceline at $68 and $75 and received counter offers on both. Bid $78 (on the $75 counter offer) and was rejected. Sorry I don't remember the requested amounts of the counters. Used the PRICELINE links here to bid.
