  1. This was tough because I didn't see any prior bids or even a listing for the Ontario, OR, area. I checked Hotwire and saw a 3* for $86 and a 2* for $41 (only 5% of Hotwire reviewers recommended this one, so I decided to be afraid of bidding for a 2*) I had pretty much decided that I'd just stay in Meridian, ID, since I had a successful bid for one night for a week prior. But first I just did a random bid of $50. There are no free rebids here, other than changing the star quality, and I expected to get nothing. However, I got the Clarion. Clarion Inn 1249 Tapadera Avenue Ontario, OR 97914 $50 bid $12.80 taxes and fees $62.80 total It gets favorable ratings on tripadvisor and shows as #3 in the area, however, I'm not sold. For some reason I thought that Clarion was normally ranked as 2 or 2.5*, not 3. $50 isn't a terrible price for a place to sleep for one night, but I think I probably should have bid lower, especially since I have plenty of time. Oh well... time to make the best of it.
  2. I started bidding at $45 for a 3* in the Sandy area and increased each bid by $5 with free rebids until I reached my $60 budget limit. When they were rejected, I started over with a 2.5* and bid $45. That bid was successful. Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites 10680 South Automall Drive Sandy, UT 84070 $45 per night $59.36 taxes and fees $419.36 for 8 nights. The hotel gets mostly favorable reviews and does provide free breakfast. I think that's a bargain for only $45 per night, so I'm pleased.
  3. My first bid of $46 was successful. Courtyard by Marriott 1789 South Eagle Road Meridian, Idaho 83642 $46 bid + $13.27 taxes & fees = $59.27 total Hotel looks awesome and has received good reviews. I'm looking forward to staying there.
  4. Blizzcon, a large gaming convention is taking place October 22 & 23rd. 20,000 tickets were sold for the event so I suspect that is why you've encountered difficulities while trying to obtain a room. It's good, however, that you finally found one elsewhere.
  5. I started by bidding for 3.5* in the Disneyland Anaheim zone at $55. I added Laguna Beach (free rebid) and increased my bid to $65. Then I added Laguna Hills/Mission (another free rebid) and increased to $72 (which was as much as I was willing to pay now). All were declined. So I added Disneyland/Garden Grove and lowered my bid to $45 and got the Sheraton. Sheraton Garden Grove-Anaheim South 12221 Harbor Boulevard Garden Grove, California 92840 My bid = $45.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 7 Subtotal: $315.00 Taxes and Fees: $49.49 Total Charges*: $364.49 Overall, not too bad for a week. Although the hotel is a couple of miles from the convention center, I think I will be able to ride the bus to get there and the low, low rate is worth a little inconvenience.
  6. Thanks for the advice. :) Actually I'm fairly flexible in terms of my stay. I could split the stay between 2 hotels and I certainly could bid for a 3* rather than 4* room. It's good to know that downtown is lacking shopping opportunities, so I think I will look to the other zones. Thanks again.
  7. Hi. I hope someone can help me here. I'm traveling to San Jose, California, from December 15-22, 2008. I will be meeting a friend for a couple of days, but for the rest of the trip I'm going to be a woman traveling alone and I want to stay somewhere convenient, but safe. I do plan to use Priceline (or maybe Hotwire) but I don't know what zone/city would be best for my tourist base. It looks like the main 4* that have come up currently are the San Jose Marriott, the Santa Clara Hyatt, and the Santa Clara Hilton with all coming up well under $100/night (actually I'd like to stay under $75.) Which zone do you think would be best for me? As I said, I'd just like to use it as a base for touring the area, but I'd like to be close to restaurants and shopping and feel safe venturing out at night. I am planning on renting a car, if that makes a difference. Thanks for your help. :) PS - For those of you with knowledge of the area, I'm open to tourist attraction suggestions, as well. :)
  8. It seems that the 3* hotel that comes up in the downtown Tampa zone most often is the Hyatt Regency. Granted there is a chance you would get something else, I think odds are good for the Hyatt.
  9. I've been bidding at the $65 level for weeks for a 3-night stay from 6/7-10. The hotel is showing availability, but it's just not coming up on PL. Maybe the hotel is holding a block of rooms for your event? Or maybe they are no longer participating. It's a shame because I was there last month for $65 and enjoyed my stay.
  10. I'm going to a Stampin Up! convention and couldn't afford the host hotels, so I tried my luck. My first bid was accepted, so I might could have started lower. My offer: $65 #nights: 2 Tax/Fees: $24.96 Total: $154.96 Hotel website shows $179/night.
  11. It's very difficult to get a hotel in that zone on the 24th because of 2 big conventions filling the hotels in the area. The Florida Educational Technology Conference (expecting 14,000) and PGA Market (expecting 43,000) will be there then. I've even read that the WDW zone is filling up too, but I think most attendees stay on International. I think you would have more success by staying in another zone (ie-airport,) changing your date, or finding a room now and paying the normal rate before all are full.
  12. Amerisuites Orlando Lake Buena Vista 4991 Calypso Cay Way Kissimmee, Florida 34746 407-997-1300 Check-In Date: Thursday, June 8, 2006 Check-In Time: After 04:00 PM Check-Out Date: Friday, June 9, 2006 Check-Out Time: 11:00 AM Your Offer Price: $36.00 Subtotal: $36.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $11.74 Total Charges: $47.74 I was trying to get another night at Disney's All Star Music (see other post,) but I got this instead. That's the Priceline gamble. At least I get free breakfast at AmeriSuites, something no Disney resort will ever do!
  13. While looking at a travel site related to Disney I noticed that people were posting about getting an official Disney resort on Priceline, which I didn't know was possible. I gave it a try with the bid that had been successful for others ($36) for 2 1/2* in WDW Vicinity and got the All Star Music. :) I started out only bidding for June 9th, but since I got on Disney property, I took advantage of Priceline's offer to add another night, which from what I can tell, means I had to pay the Priceline fee two times (instead of just once) and I might even have to change rooms during my stay. Oh well...It was cheap! The best rate I've ever gotten for the All-Stars thru Disney is $49 plus taxes and that's usually in off season (January.) Check-In Date: Friday, June 9, 2006 Check-Out Date: Sunday, June 11, 2006 Hotel Name: Disney's All Star Music Resort 1801 West Buena Vista Drive Lake Buena Vista, Florida 32830 407-939-6000 Check-In Time: After 04:00 PM Check-Out Time: 11:00 AM Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $36.00 Subtotal: $36.00 Taxes and Service Fees: $11.74 Total Charges for Original Reservation: $47.74 Total Charges for Add. Night Res.: $47.74 Then I got greedy and decided to bid again to get June 8th. I ended up with AmeriSuites. Well...At least I get free breakfast there. I'll add another post for those details.
  14. I'm going to a convention tomorrow and I really waited too long to bid for a hotel in this area. Now many of the convention area hotels are sold out. Here was my strategy: 1. Universal/Sea World zone, 3*, $40 Rejected 2. Add Sand Lake (free rebid), $45 Rejected 3. Add West Disney (free rebid), $50 Rejected 4. Add Winter Garden (free rebid), $55 Rejected 5. Drop to 2 1/2*, $35 Rejected 6. Add Winter Park (free rebid), $45 Accepted Radisson Barcelo Hotel (Ewwww.....) :) 8444 International Drive Orlando, FL 32819 Offer - $45 Taxes/Service fee - $12.94 Total - $57.94 I'm disappointed in this hotel as most of the reviews have been poor, but I'm desperate and had to have a cheap place to sleep. It's only one night, so maybe the bed bugs won't have a chance to get too friendly. In retrospect, I should have paid more and tried for the Peabody.
  15. We stayed here August 12-14, 2005, and I was shocked at how much had changed since my last stay. Long before discovering Priceline, I used Travelweb's weekly specials to stay at this hotel. I used to be able to consistently get a rate of less than $129. (Ouch! Glad I discovered Priceline!) Anyway, it's been several years since I stayed at the hotel. Our room (#970) was in the lower tower. It looks as though it needs to be updated. The ceiling has bubbles, discolorations, and peeling paint. The bathroom door shows past water damage and the wood is splitting at the bottom. However, my biggest disappointment was with cleanliness. There was food on the floor in the bathroom, crumbs on the nightstand, and debris on the floor. (Not surprisingly, we had lots of ants. One bed had many crawling on the comforter. I hate ants! Needless to say, we slept in the other bed after removing the comforter.) We only had one coffee mug for the two of us. I asked housekeeping for another and she told me she didn't have any more. I asked again the 2nd day and the housekeeper told me again that she didn't have one, so I asked if she could get me one or if I should call guest services. She returned within 5 minutes with a mug. The safe had been locked by a prior guest and not left open, so I could not use it. I could have called maintenance, but I decided I would just live without it. It' still a convenient hotel and the restaurant has a great breakfast buffet. I would never choose to stay here again, but since I'm now a Priceline girl, the chances of me getting it again are good. I would never pay full price!
  16. I started at $30 for a 3* in this zone and went to $42. (I stopped because I noticed that someone recently got the Sheraton Safari for $45 & I knew that I didn't prefer that hotel.) So, I started over and rebid for a Resort. I started at $55 and was declined. I added a free-rebid zone and I raised my bid to $62 and I got the Wyndham. I think that I probably overbid by a couple of dollars. Upon checking in to the hotel, I checked my folio on tv and found that my "deposit" was $137. The fee I paid to Priceline was $145 including taxes and fees. Of course I still had to pay the $12/day (plus taxes) resort fee each day.
  17. I'm so happy HelloKitty posted her bid! I've been bidding for weeks in the $85-$100 range and was not successful. The best rate I found for the Renaissance FallsView was $224 (US) with free breakfast for 2 when I called the hotel directly. That's out of my budget, so I'm glad Priceline came through! Renaissance Fallsview Niagara Falls 6455 Fallsview Boulevard Niagara Falls, Ontario L2G 3V9 905-357-5200 Check-In Date: Thu, Aug 4, 2005 Check-In Time: After 04:00 PM Check-Out Date: Fri, Aug 5, 2005 Check-Out Time: 11:00 AM Your Offer Price: $105.00 (US dollars)
  18. Got this hotel on the first try! (Darn, maybe I could have gotten it cheaper!) But, since there are no free-rebids for 2 1/2 star, I was afraid to go lower. Offer: $42 Taxes & Service Fees: $12.56 Total: $54.56 The best rate I could find at this hotel was $89 with my mom's AARP, so I'm pleased. I'm going to a scrapbooking convention at the fairgrounds and know the area is pretty rough. Last year I bid in the Brandon zone and got the Baymont Inn. While the hotel was acceptable, we were shocked to find "ladies of the night" working in front of the hotel. Eikes! The reviews of the Hilton Garden Inn on www.tripadvisor.com were good, so I'm hoping mom & I will have a better experience this year! :-)
  19. I'm going to a scrapbooking convention in Downtown Orlando. I bid up to $75 for a 3 & 4 Star Downtown, but was unsuccessful (probably due to lack of availability.) Began new bid for 3* in Universal zone. $35 bid was declined, but was offered to rebid again with a $9 increase. Declined offer and added Winter Park as a free rebid while upping bid to $41. It worked! And it's closer to Downtown than most any other hotel in the zone. Sheraton Studio City Hotel 5905 International Drive Orlando, FL 32819 Subtotal = $82.00 Taxes = $17.02 Total = $99.02
  20. I know, I'm a copycat! I've been bidding for my April vacation for weeks, so when I saw MartinElk's post, I decided to try again. I did exactly the same thing. I bid $55 for a 3* CC/CH zone and was rejected, but offered a $15 counteroffer. I declined and added Springfield as a free rebid and increased offer to $63. I, too, was accepted. Your offer Price - $63 Number of rooms - 2 Number of nights - 7 Travel Insurance - $70 Subtotal - $952 Taxes & Fees - $134.70 Total Charges - $1086.70 **This was the first time I've purchased the travel insurance, so I may have just wasted $70! I thought I would better be safe than sorry. ** Our family is planning a reunion in DC this April, so I really needed to know where we were staying as soon as possible. I think I could have saved $10 -$15/night by waiting until closer to my travel date to bid, but I just couldn't wait. Now I can cancel my regular reservation at Loews L'Enfant Plaza which was costing $1194.24 for 1 room for the same week. The Hyatt Regency at Hyatt.com is listed as $359/night - Ouch!
  21. I read mixed reviews on other websites about this hotel and I wanted to add my point of view. I actually stayed there twice in a 2 week period. My first stay found me in a 1st floor room near the lobby. It was a quiet location, but I found the room to be untidy. The bathroom floor had hair in the corners and the kitchen floor had noticable grime. The lighting was poor over the bathroom vanity and in the bedroom closet. The door leading to the patio looked as though it needed to have it's frame repaired. Since it looked as though it had been damaged by forceable entry, I had difficulty sleeping all night. Adding to my sleep problems was a worn out bed that had such a sway I had to fight continuously to keep from rolling into the center. Finally, when we arrived at 4PM, there was a used room service plate and silverware outside the door of our room. I moved it to a hallway chair. The next day when we checked out, the plate was still in the chair. Some staff were pleasant, some cold. I spoke to a very nice front desk clerk the morning before our departure. I inquired about the availability of towels at the pool. He told me they were available, so I got ready to swim and headed to the pool. When I arrived I found out it was closed until 10:30AM. On the way back to the room I saw that front desk clerk. I said, "Why didn't you tell me the pool was closed?" to which he responded, "You didn't ask." True, but if someone is inquiring about pool towels, chances are they are going to the pool. I did use the fitness center and found it to be adequate with a couple of stationary bikes and a treadmill, plus a tv to watch while exercising. There were dry saunas in each locker room at the center too. Two weeks later, I was back at the hotel. This time I had a "dry" check-in clerk. I told her I was uncomfortable in the 1st floor room because the exterior door frame looked so damaged and asked if I could have something higher. She told me the hotel was almost filled to capacity and that she could not process any special requests. However, I did end up with a room on the 4th floor. That room was SO much better. It was cleaner and the bed was normal. This time I had a sliding glass door to the patio, but the door lock was broken. But, since I was upstairs I didn't feel so bad about the security issue. However, there was no patio furniture! So we decided to stay inside. But when we walked out onto the patio to look around, we saw what appeared to be a hand-rolled cigarette (we're pretty sure it was marijuana.) We left it as it was and decided to stay off the patio. Also, while this room was cleaner, it was missing the cookie sheet in the oven, the plate in the microwave, and had a fridge that didn't get very cold. But the lighting on the bathroom vanity was much better. The hotel is located in a nice area of town. It's next to a large shopping mall and close to other upscale shopping areas and eateries. (We ended up eating at PF Chang's twice!) Parking at the hotel is tight unless you park in the garage. I lucked out and always found a parking space around the hotel, even if a few times it was far in the back. The hotel has a nightly buffet, but we didn't try it out, and a bar. I did visit the bar when our room was on the 1st floor as the staff said I was to fill the ice bucket with the bartender. Upstairs there was an ice machine, so I didn't have to worry about irritating the busy bartender. We saw complementary coffee in the lobby and we received USA Today each day of our stay. And during the 1st stay, we found 2 bottled waters waiting outside with our morning newspaper. That didn't happen when we were upstairs. The suite had a living room with a tv, sofa, chair, coffee table and end tables plus the dining table and 4 chairs were adjacent. The bedroom had a nice armoir with another tv, bed, and 2 night tables. The vanity area was positioned between the bathroom and the closet. The kitchen had a full-size range and refrigerator. It was also equipped with a microwave, coffee pot, and toaster. I found it easy to cook breakfast in the room. But I did take my own skillet and spatula (after reading other posts.) The room had dishes, glasses, and silverware, which were stored in the dishwasher. The upscale Harris Teeter grocery store is only about 2 blocks away. (It's much nicer than the Harris Teeter in Jax, FL.) So overall the hotel was fine. It was nice to be able to cook some meals and store some snacks in the room. Hubby really enjoyed having 2 TVs. The hotel does offer high-speed internet for $10/day, but we didn't buy that luxury. I would have liked to have used the outdoor pool, but I like to swim in the morning and it always opened at 10:30AM, which I find very late. I would stay there again with the same Priceline rate of $40, but I would keep my fingers crossed when I bid for a 3* and hope for the Hyatt down the street. While it doesn't have a kitchen, it does have a friendly staff, clean, comfortable rooms, and an indoor pool with "normal" operating hours. Plus the last time I stayed there I got it for a $28 bid, which was icing on the cake!
  22. Winning bid was $40 for 3* Doubletree Suites Charlotte South Park for 2 nights 7/7 - 7/9/04. I started at $28 (saw this winning amount on another board for Hyatt) for 3* South Park area. When it was rejected, I raised the bid to $32 and added Piper Glen zone (1st free rebid) and it was rejected. Then I raised bid to $36 and added Mathews zone (2nd free rebid), but it too was rejected. Finally I raised bid to $40 and added North zone (3rd free rebid). It's more than I wanted to pay, but much better than anything I could get without Priceline. Details: Doubletree Suites Charlotte 6300 Morrison Boulevard Charlotte, NC 28211 704-364-2400 Offer: $40 x 2 nights = $80. + taxes and fees $17.79 = $97.79 for 2 nights. Best rate I found for this hotel, for these nights was $90/ night, so I got it at about 50% off.
