  1. As it turns out, this is the old Governor's Inn which dates back to the 1970s and is currently undergoing a major up fit, which is both inconvenient and rather like putting lipstick on a pig. No way is this a 3.5* facility, DO NOT STAY HERE! The lobby reeked of bleach trying to mask old food smells, but I had no choice since I had prepaid on Priceline. The pneumatic "comfort-bed" Radisson was trying to brag about in the room literature is nonsense. My side of the bed did not inflate or deflate and was hard and uncomfortable. My wife inflated her side of the bed only to wake up in a hot dog bun with a backache the next morning because the air had leaked out. The "down" pillows were probably original to the property as they had all the support of a sack of feather dust. On an uncommonly warm evening the A/C didn't work and the room was stuffy all night. The hot water is unstable as I tried to dodge the spurts of cold water in the morning shower. Better off bidding on 3* properties in the Research Triangle Park - there's a Marriott Courtyard, Hyatt Place and Sheraton Four Points nearby that have to be better.
  2. Started at $45 for 3.5* from previous bid wins in this forum, failed. Added RDU as a 2nd area and raised bid to $50 - a winner. An awesome deal, thanks better bidding.com
  3. Amenities listed: Hilton Garden Inn, Wilmington East, NC Pool - typical medium sized oval hotel pool with lounge chairs and tables. Laundry - washer and dryer in ground floor ice room. Business Center - printer and PC in small room behind front desk, didn't use it. Fitness center - new machines, treadmill, bicycle, multifunction weight machine. High Speed Internet access - wireless and wired in room, FREE, good connection easy to use. Restaurant - breakfast, lunch and dinner with small bar in lobby, also provides Room Service.
  4. Started bidding at $60 for 4* and was rejected, and rebid by adding zones (4* only in downtown and southpark area) until I was successful at $75 and the hotel was the Omni right in downtown Charlotte where I needed to be. Tremendous savings over kayak rates.
  5. This is a posted special on HOTWIRE, no bidding required, $68/night plus fees but you don't know the hotel until you buy. Hilton Garden Inn is located in Mayfaire Town Center, halfway between Wrigtsville Beach and downtown Wilmington. New hotel, nice rooms centrally located, grocery and restaurants nearby. My previous bids on PRICELINE at $50, $55, $60 and $65 for a 3* had failed. This was a good deal.
  6. Finally success on Priceline for Austin, after expanding my acceptable areas to South-Airport Austin area. And of course I used the betterbidding.com PRICELINE link, whose cookies conveniently remember my dates and city to make rebidding each day easier. Started bidding at $60 for 3.5* in Austin South-Airport, rejected Added downtown and increased bid to $65, rejected Next day bid $70 for Austin South-Airport, rejected Added downtown and increased bid to $75, accepted Marriott Austin South Austin South - Airport (AUS) 4415 South Ih 35 Austin, Texas 78744 512-441-7900 Check-In Date: Thu, Feb 12, 2009 / After 03:00 PM Check-Out Date: Mon, Feb 16, 2009 / 12:00 PM Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $75.00 Subtotal: $300.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $56.55 Total Charges*: $356.55
  7. Hi there all, Following the older winning posts for Austin, I started at $60 for 4* in Downtown Austin on priceline, upping the bids in $5 increments and changing the bid to 3.5* for 2/12-2/16/09. Then a more recent post won the Omni in downtown Austin at $90 for the exact weekend, 2/13-2/14/09. My last bid at $95 for 3.5* downtown Austin was rejected. Any ideas? Thanks, dr.odd
  8. Started at $90 for 4* only in Downtown Vancouver on 8/11, rejected, went up in $10 increments, knowing there are no Priceline 4*s in these regions, adding North Vancouver, Surrey and Langley to $120, still rejected. Next day (8/12) started at $125 and got the Hyatt Regency Vancouver.
