  1. Hello, Sorry for the delay in my reply. I unfortunately looked at all these rates in Canadian dollars the rate was $135.64 CAD which should be about $118 usd. I see a 3.5 warehouse that looks similar to the blakes amenities now for $130 usd a night. Here are my amenities Free Internet Boutique Hotel Fitness Center Restaurant(s) From the photos the fitness center looks pretty decent. Nice going for a run in the morning with a view. Still sort of pissed about only saving 13%... if only there was a way to priceline a room guaranteed with 2 beds, roll away or otherwise.... edit: I also noticed you list the blake as having a pool. From what their website list there is no suggestion of a pool. Google streetsview still has banners of "Parc St. Charles Hotel" where the blake should be, perhaps the old place had a pool?
  2. I of course started my purchase through betterbidding.com HOTWIRE quick quote and ended up with a hotel right smack on the border of warehouse vs downtown zones. Hotwire offered $871.54 usd tax in for the 3 nights and 2 rooms. Booking through the hotels website would have cost $1038.82. I usually use PRICELINE but it was important we have 2 rooms and 2 beds per room [4 adults 2 "children" ;) ] and Hot.wire was the best bet for that. Modest savings at about 13%, can't say I'm totally happy, probably should have gone with the 4*, oh well it's time to party in NOLA! Hopefully this hotel gets added to the hotel list as there is only one 3.5* listed in warehouse. This hotel used to be listed as a 3* oh well.
  3. Hello All, A friend of mine recently asked for my help getting him a nice room in Chicago. Of course my first stop was betterbidding using the calenderofwins and of course launching ALL my searches from the referral box. For about a week and a half we were bidding from $220-$245 for a 5* in Chicago with no luck, HOTWIRE was showing 5*s for slightly higher than our bids but PRICELINE is just so much more fun :P Finally after reviewing the hotel list here on bb I realized the Park Hyatt is the only known 5*, my friend is there with his GF and I told him 4.5* should be pretty good. Not sure I really trust the star system anyhow. We made a $240 offer on area 8 North Michigan Ave - River North Area and it told us "one time only offer, up your bid to $258 for highest chances of winning" we decided not to fall for that and tried bidding $240 for Millennium Park, Loop & Grant Park Area and our offer was accepted. We won the Omni Hotel which has a great location and it came out to $850 usd tax/fees in. Hotel is ranked #34 on tripadvisor so I think it was pretty good, right on the Mag Mile. Rack rate on the room was $1044 usd. About a 20% savings. hehe my friend and I have been impersonating Shatners 2 finger thingy he does when negotiating deals since we booked it. Hope this info helps and thanks for betterbidding!
  4. Hello All, 07/29/11 to 08/01/11 I ofcourse started at betterbidding.com and used the PRICELINE link to book my room. I appreciate the advice here so wanted to make sure to give credit. After seeing 4* hotels floating around the $112-$115 range I figured I would give priceline a shot with some low ball bids. The calander of wins had a few for $95. Primarily bidding on 3 areas only on 4* Millennium Park, Loop & Grant Park Area North Michigan Ave - River North Area Lincoln Park Tried $75 in all three areas - rejected Tried $85 in all three areas - rejected Tried $95 in all three areas - rejected but an offer to increase bid by $25 but on the same area (no thanks) Tried $100 in Millennium Park, Loop & Grant Park and bid was accepted. Turned out to be $356.25 USD (great for us Canadians with the exchange rates), hotwire was looking to bill us in CAD. Very satisfied with the deal as hotwire would have been $400. We were also worried about getting the Hyatt since we heard the rooms are small. We were also hoping for an indoor pool which the Hilton does have. Parking is also $35 a day for self park and has in/out privlidges!, last hotel we stayed at Sheraton on Wacker didn't have a discount for self park. I'm not much of a valet kind of guy so this is a great deal (theres probably cheaper lots in the area, but I value in/out and I imagine Monday will be pricey since it's a business day. Thanks again for the help, I'll never bid without checking / clicking via betterbidding.
  5. Hello All, Check in April 9 check out April 11th. Searched Washington DC via betterbidding link. Bid $120 on a 4* zone 8 (Dupont Circle - Woodley Park) rejected Bid $125 on a 3.5* zone 8, bid accepted for Marriot Wardman Park website rate $229. I read some mixed reviews about the hotel being a large conferance type hotel, but thats fine with us as we are looking for a place to crash after partying in Adam's Morgan. Compared to the rates hotwire wanted, I am satisfied with this price. We were looking to stay in this area only, hotwires rate was $177 for a 3.5* in this area and rates were $200+ on any regular travel site.
  6. Hello All, Love betterbidding, great info so I am here today to share my last minute bid for a a Chicago hotel. I of course used the PRICELINE link provided on this page to make sure the author of this website gets credit for this valuable forum! Bidding for hotel October 10 - October 12 Friday October 9 2009 around 3pm eastern I bidded $140 for a 4 1/2 * hotel in Chicago areas; areas 5 & 6 Millennium Park, Loop & Grant Park Area & North Michigan Ave - River North Area. Bid rejected. Later tried same bid for a 4* hotel @ $170, bid was denied but priceline suggested I rebid an extra $25 without changing search criteria. Since hotwire rooms were about $215 I decided it wasn't worth it. Finally searched for North Michigan Avenue 4* @ $175 accepted and booked at 4* Chicago Sheraton, 301 East North Water Street. $419 with tax, called the hotel, room was set as 1 king size bed (first time this has happened) they moved me to a deluxe room 2 beds. I tried chatting up the receptionist for an upgrade (not specifying if paid or free) and she said the club floor was full, but if something opened up she'd get me a room there. I told her we were celebrating a birthday. Anyways, love the site, I'm happy I have something to contribute since I don't travel for business just pleasure. Checked shearton.com, $690 usd with taxes for 2 nights in a 1 king bed on the same dates. Some great savings, thanks Shatner / Priceline / Better Bidding Thanks for the great tips!
  7. Hello All, I am trying to book a hotel for some older friends that are visiting miami, we were thinking of booking a room in Miami downtown to be close to the Bahamas consulat (some euro friends need to get a visa for a cruise). Is miami downtown safe? or is miami beach a better bet? There won't be any partying. How long is the walk across the bridge to miami beach? Thanks in advance.
  8. Hello All, I've been lurking these forums but finally have a win to share. Previously only used priceline for rental cars and saved a good 30%. I checked out doubletree's website and they want $160 a night. I got $82.60 a night taxes in thanks to PRICELINE. That is cheaper then 2 people staying at a hostel (6person dorm) in Boston. I also called the hotel and they pulled up the reservation with no mention of priceline. Priceline booked 2 beds in a non smoking. They had no problem switching me over to a smoking room. The calenderofwins is very helpful, thanks again betterbidding.com! You and priceline helped make my vacation a little nicer. *Note* hotel doesn't have it's own pool, has access to neighboring YMCA, I don't really care though :) Doubletree Hotel Boston - Downtown 3-star Copley Square - Theatre District 821 Washington Street Boston, Massachusetts 02111 617-956-7900 See Hotel Website View Map and Directions Check-In Date: Sat, Jun 28, 2008 / After 03:00 PM Check-Out Date: Mon, Jun 30, 2008 / 12:00 PM Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $65.00 Travel Insurance: $10.00 Subtotal: $140.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $25.20 Total Charges*: $165.20
