  1. I didn't do this right at all. I should have clarified on rebidding. I didn't start with a Resort because quite honestly I didn't like any of the locations and they all seem to be off the beaten path a bit (maybe i'm wrong).

So knowing this is a holiday weekend I started a little bit higher.

I checked 4* South Beach at 85, then added Dade 95, then N Miami 100, then Miami Lakes, 105, then southwest miami for 110 and was rejected on all bids.

Seems to me that is pretty telling that no four star is going to be available in that price range.

On hotwire there is a 3.5 star with "Selected amenities include: Boutique Hotel, Near Beach, Airport Shuttle, Restaurant(s), Complimentary Breakfast, High-Speed Internet Access, Tennis"

or we may just stay at the Joshua House which is a gay and lesbian B and B which is more expensive but is recommendd.

Open to thoughts whether I have anymore rebids open on priceline.

  2. I'm not worrying as much about being cheap on this trip. I want something nice for my birthday.

I'd like to use Priceline and Hotwire to get a good value on a centrally located hotel.

I've deduced what hotwire is offering using betterbidding.com.

    South Beach

This hotel 3* South Beach $90 plus tax :Richmond Hotel http://www.richmondhotel.com/ (this place has bad reviews and is boutique)

3.5* $123 plus tax per night http://www.doubletree.com/en/dt/hotels/ind...ctyhocn=MIAOFDT (mixed reviews but higher chance of getting two double beds, though appears to be sold out during our dates, so it could be a different hotel)

    Miami Beach

3.5 Stars. 128 per night Clarion Claridge hotel (which i have to say is gorgeous and good reviews) http://www.claridgefl.com/

    Recommended on Flyertalk :

http://www.rubellhotels.com/albion.html $145 a night, non priceline booked , I actually called them and could confirm 2 double beds.

    Review: http://www.gayot.com/newhotels/MiamiSouthF...?tag=MIHOT03564

http://www.clintonsouthbeach.com/discover.htm , $203 per night, 2 Queen Beds, according to FT close to the clubs. Lots of great reviews.

So It seems like a good strategy might be to start with $80 or so for a three star and go that way.

(ps i like on betterbidding how you can be a bit more conversational on your posts..)

  3. Hello, I've read through some of the threads and have a decent idea of what to do..

I'm going to LA from 9/23 to 9/27/04 and am interested in just staying in West Hollywood. My friend Rob read the list of hotels and said the only one I really don't want is the Century City one, and the hyatt which everyone seems to be getting is fine. I guess the Ramada (which shows up under 2stars) and some of the other ones are right near all the gay clubs and stuff, which would be great.

If I want to "lowball it", what's a fair number to start at? I was thinking of bidding $40 for the 3 star category West Hollywood/Beverly Hills for those 4 nights?

    Is my thinking right?

    Thanks,

    Chris

  4. My friend bid (Don't quote me exactly on his bidding steps)

$65 for a 4 Star in MTE and MTW

70 for a 3 star MTE and MTW

    75 for a 2 1/2 star

    All rejected.

Then I went back in and tried $90 for a 4 star in MTE..rejected

Then $100 for a 3 star and got the 4* Avenue of the Americas Hilton succesfully as an upgraded 4* bid.

We only wanted Midtown east and we were VERY happy with this win. Probably not the best strategy, but we used 2 people to bid to get what we want. Also worth noting this was a same day bid, bid at noon that day.
