I booked this hotel for May 10-17. Listed as a 3.5 star property. Amenities: Hotel, near beach, restaurant, pool, fitness center, tennis nearby, business center, laundry facilities. By comparison, Expedia was about $124/night for this hotel. The Sheraton's site was anywhere from $179-199. Hotwire came to $76/night plus taxes. Last time I stayed here was about 6-7 years ago.

Post-stay update: For the second consecutive summer, I booked The Tremont Hotel through Hotwire. The hotel lacks most major ammenities but the price is outstanding and the area is beyond comparison. I would stay here again without question but know in advance that you get few extras. In fact, a stack of Wall Street Journals left at a table near the elevator entrance of each floor and morning coffee in the lobby of the hotel are all I can recall. Last year, there was free pastry, fruit, etc. for morning consumption but that is apparently discontinued. The TV channel selection is subpar; I would guess about a dozen channels are available, but there is a Sony CD/radio shelf system that booms. The hotel is a few steps from Michigan Ave. and State Street and the beautiful lakefront is a brief walk, too. The staff here is professional and helpful.

I got The Tremont Hotel (Chicago) for $85/night for the last week of July 2004. It is listed as boutique with restaurant and fitness center. I stayed at the hotel through Hotwire last summer, too, so this is a return trip. Location is superb, hotel is fair, but the cost is excellent for the time of year.
