  1. I guess that' a good deal for november, since Hotel Palomar is no.3 on Tripadvisor rating and Dupont Circle has been in my plans from the start. I only hope I have the same luck when it comes to NYC hotels around the same expensive time of the year!
  2. In fact nyc in autumm is more expensive. Last year I have payed a priceline price I found very expensive for Novotel by november, while in March I got better deals easily. Back in the day, when I travelled with more tight budgets, I have used YMCAs and had decent stays, better than many 2* hotels around. The bathroom outside the room was an issue, but they were big, clean and you could lock them while you use them, what prevents you from any collective experiences. Plus, the YMCAs have very good locations, one at Central Park West and 62th st and the other in midtown east.
  3. I have just been unsuccessful in rebidding at priceline for a rome central 5* hotel for 14th to 20th march 2009. I have gone up to US175, and I did not go further because I am aware that I might get The Intercontinental Rome, which Hotwire offers for US199. I have already used both sites, but I could not remember if hotwire`s taxes are lower than priceline taxes. What do you suggest? I am also looking at non-opaque sites. Are agoda and skoosh reliable sites? Thank you. P.S.: I have used your PRICELINE links, as usual.
  4. That was a hard one and it's not a dream come true. But since I was almost desperate with the crazy prices I've been seeing around and the useless rebiddings before that one, I'm happy afterall. I think the location is fabulous and I don't think it's a bad hotel. The price is more or less 30% cheaper than at the hotel site. :)
  5. Won a bid, but I'll make a new post. No need to answer this one. Thanx
  6. In unbelievable! I've tried for two times for two days and no luck in rebidding. I guess it's a highly rated period that I wasn't aware of. It was so easy last time in hotwire in march, I got The Hudson for $170. Now it's all very expensive, and I have searched everywhere in the non-opaque sites. Does anybody know if theres anything big in NY in that time? Even in London, famous for being so expensive, I have just got a nice 5* in my preferred area for $215 for the adjacent prior period. As to stay in a bad hotel is something I woldn't like to consider, I ask if someone could give me some light, please? :) Until now my two best options through non opaque sites are The Pod for $260(double non shared) and the same rate for The Excelsior(Because of Trip Adv good reviews and also because I have good memories of a Beacon stay, which I guess has similar standards and location)
  7. Winning bid :) $215 5* Grosvenor House Thanks for your help, i went there through your PRICELINE links. Now I'll solve my nyc, that apparently is a little hardes for those dates
  8. I live in Brazil and my cards are brazillian, andI got stuck, as many people from Canada and other countries, when I tried to bid at priceline. The strangest thing is that they have a list of countries elligible for business, which includes Brazil. I even sent an email and got a dubiuos answer saying they accept non-us cards but that I must have an us biiling adress. How could I have that? I guess phony zip Beverly Hills 90210 is the answer and maybe that was even between the lines of their message. But I confess that I am very tempted by the rates, but, on the other hand, afraid that my bid is accepted, my card is charged and then, when in my next vacation destiny, I may have trouble in the hotel check in, which is something that would really annoy me. Any suggestions or opininion, PPPPLEASE? :)
  9. Thank you. That hotel is really not what I had in mind. I'll definetely try PRICELINE.
  10. The areas are important for me, indeed. As a newbie, I was reading some priceline topics and I think I'll try PRICELINE for the first time. Maybe I'll get a nice 4 or 5* at soho for 200 dollars max, which is my goal. I'll try the rebbiding techniques and if it does not work, I'll swing back to HOTWIRE. I was going straight to hotwire because I have recently used it, even before I knew betterbidding and got(maybe out of luck) a nice 10 days stay at NYC Hudson Hotel for 170 dollars last march. But of course now I'll use your links and post my winnings. Thank you again.
