If you like an ocean view and mild hills consider riding south on Pacific Coast Highway - PCH 1 - head to Corona Del Mar then Laguna Beach then Dana Point and back to your hotel in Newport Beach - end at Sabatino's (near Lido Aisle) for a cold beverage an the absolute best homemade fresh spicy Italian sausage in the world! :)

Tremendous Hotwire win for very respected, serviced & maintained lodging 15 min drive from SJO airport - 15 min drive to San Jose Central - Spaniard ownership/property managment team - stayed there 2 years ago for the 2nd time in 15 years - staff young, intelligent and serviced with excellence for the most part - rooms were tight square footage wise - lively local music, dance and casino makes up for it though - hotel used to have scheduled bus service and promos to their sister property Playa Tambor in Guanacaste - not sure if it still runs or combo discounts avail but I highly reccomend both properties. Just won same hotel on PRICELINE for $85 a night (before taxes/fees): 4/9 thru 4/12. This after multiple failed attempts to obtain Resort Marriott Diamond Head those dates. That said, having lived on Oahu we're very happy with the 4* Hawaii Prince. Central Waikiki beachfront marina location with very friendly staff, lots of local culture, awesome sunset views and a short 5-10 min walk to fantastic shopping and restuarants.

Turned out to be Pineta Palace for $471 total -- I'm not happy considering the noise comments and questions regarding whether it's really a 4* :) :)

I was thinking the same about Red Lion but noticed once again that the star rating was incorrect on Hotwire (3.5 vs. 3.0) -- I was hoping it was The Davenport since amenities matched but that hotel truly is a 4* I'm going to pass on the Red Lion and the DT for my upcoming Spokane trip. This travel product is still ranked #1, or at the top, on several review sites and used to run $400-$500 just a short while back. Garmin GPS products also seem to have a strong third-party following which allows numerous international maps to be purchased and uploaded onto this device making it nice for traveling abroad. This isn't the greatest deal in the world but given that I've been bidding unsuccessfully on PRICELINE for (4) weeks now on a minivan for this summer's family trip back to the Midwest and the lowest advertised price has been $99 a day I'm going to be happy with what I received. :) Costs: $53 daily x (3) days = $159 + $43.75 taxes/fees = $202.75 TOTAL

Here's a decent direct buy via Hotels.com and I also noticed that PRICELINE.com has this same price as a direct buy on their website too. The Marriott ($209 + taxes/fees) and Intercontinental ($180 + taxes/fees) have always been "the" places to stay in San Jose but over the years they've nearly doubled their prices (both use to be $100 per night consistently). I've been to the The Barcelo San Jose Palacio before and it's one of three 4* hotels in San Jose, Costa Rica (actually only ranked 3.5* by Hotels.com) and it's a great place to stay with large clean rooms and a nice pool. Here's what I paid: $117 per night for (4) nights = $468 + $76.72 in taxes/fees = $544.72 TOTAL Now with the money saved my fam and I will skip the hotel food and enjoy the finer restaurants in town! :)
