  1. Ameneties Listed: Fitness, Restaurant, Business Centre, High Speed Internet, Spa I used the HOTWIRE link above.
  2. Thought I'd follow up on my stay at the Intercon Barclay. Overall, the hotel was very nice. The room was small - no surprise for NY - but relatively clean and well done. Considering it is a non-smoking hotel, i am curious as to where the strong cigarette smell was coming from. Bathroom was nice - not sure where all the tripadvisor complaints about the bathrooms come from The only downside of the room (besides smell of smoke) was the bed - I have had more comfortable beds in $70 airport motels. The matress support was completely collapsed and they tried to compensate and give the felling that it was nice by putting a thick featherbed pad on top of the matress. The food and other services at the hotel were stupidly expensive, but there are lots of cheap laces to grab breakfast or lunch across the street and within a 2 block radius. Internet access (if you dont have a laptop) is much chepaer at any Fedex Kinkos, the closest being 3rd and 47th - 2 blocks away, and apparently free at all NY public libraries. The best part was the view. The whole west side of the building looks onto a wall, most of the north side looks onto the Waldorf and most of the south side looks onto the JPMorgan building. Having booked at a discount, I had assumed that we woudl get put in a crappy room. Was very pleasently surprised when we were put on the South Side of the South East wing (facing 48th) of the 13th floor (14 floors total) with an amazing view of the Chrysler Building. Given the suroundings, not many rooms in the hotel have a view of this, so it more than made up for the bed! Was great to sit there with beer in hand after long day, looking at the lights of what, in my opinion, is one of the most beautiful buildings in NYC. Given the price, I didnt see much lower than that after I booked, so quite happy with the value.
  3. That's a great deal for the Hyatt - and it is in a really good, central location. No long weekend up here, ours was last weekend, and apparenlty not too many Americans up here this year with high CDN $ and gas prices - I think there will be many deals to be had this summer north of the border.
  4. In the interest of maintaining sanity I went ahead and booked. NYC (MTE) Intercontinental The Barclay 4* $213 06/14/08-06/18/08 Fitness, Restauarnt, Tennis Nearby, Internet, Business.
  5. Thanks for the input. I tried Priceline for MTE (incl new zones) and MTC for 4* up to $219 (3 rebids from original 189) and it didnt come back with anything, so I think the 216 is probably the best it will get.
  6. Two summers ago - booked about a month ahead. Amenities - Breakfast, Pool, Fitness, Laundry facilities, Internet Access
  7. New to forum - have a few past bookings to add - this was last summer - I think I booked about 2 weeks ahead. ameneties: Fitness, Pool, Restaurant, Golf nearby
  8. This board is great - the pinned list of hotels is invaluable! I will be in NYC for 4 nights June 14-18. I would like to stay in MTE/MTC preferably. Hotwire is currenlty showing, what I believe based on descrition on pinned list, the Intercontinetal Barclay for $216 (and on the IC website, the rates are currently discounted to $271 once you pick your room, so it makes sense its this and not the Grand Hyatt) and the Helmsley Parklane (as opposed to same description Sofitel) for $253. I realize that June is still on the expensive end of the scale, compared to July/August. My question is simply - am I likely to do better (both price and selection) than this as my time in NYC approaches - i.e. try to book in another week or two, or is this pretty good for mid June? Thanks! Edit: the 4* MTC/$253 is now not showing, but was this morning - that may answer my question.
