  1. I needed 1 more night in Riga and decided to get a 4 star. I was hoping for something closer to the Old Tow (like one of the hotels they showed in their "hints") I noticed they have now shown a different list of hint hotels. Still., this looks like a pretty good deal. Foreign listing do not seem to show amenities like Hotwire listings in the states do. Wellton Gertrude Hotel 4 star $54.00 one night $19.44 Taxes and fees $72.44 Total
  2. Hi I am travelling with 4 ppl needing 2 rooms for 2 nights for a wedding in Chicago. We agonized about whether or not to stay downtown with the other guests or head out to the suburbs. I had a cancelleble reservation at the STAY INN in Lombard while looking for other options, thinking I might go with HOTWIRE because of the predictability. Then I got one of those emails with a PRICELINE $5 bonus cash offer that I just could not pass up. There seem to be a number of 2 - 2 1/2 star hotels with budget prices that could be had in the Chicago suburbs, but not always with the best of ratings. All 2 1/2 star hotels are not created equal. That is why I thought I would control things by going HOTWIRE. It looked to me like the Holiday Inn Express was showing up on HOTWIRE aat $44 for the same time frame, but since I only had a 24 hour window for bidding did not want to chance bidding at $38 or $39 thinking that would be close to their accepting point. I wonder how much of the $5 really comes from PRICELINE'S concession of fees, or how much is a "sale concession" that the hotel has to bear just to participate. I am guessing that they might split the concession down the middle... Which is how I arrived at my bid of $41. Add $2 or $3 of true PRICELINE fee concession to my bid of $41, and you get to $43 or $44 matching the HOTWIRE deal. Anyway, I am happy, and am very thankful for the all the good information here at BETTERBIDDING. The HOLIDAY Inn Express offers a hot BREAKFAST buffet too, which further adds to the value! :D
  3. I got the 2* Extended stay-style Studio at StudioPlus for starting a trip on Saturday night (6/30). And I used the Betterbidding PRICELINE links to bid and make my reservation.
  4. This one is not on "the list" so it is good to know that the Best Western Airport on Snow Rd plays in the Priceline arena. I have been using the links frequently, but am not sure if I used the link when I "won" this. I feel it is important to include the price including taxes and fees since Priceline gets a fee for these transactions (I think around $5). So I consider this $34 deal equivalent to a $39 deal direct from the hotel (would also be around $46 incl taxes). Still pretty terrific esp since this Best Western includes the DIY waffle breakfast!
  5. I needed one night near the airport aith a complimentary shuttle. All the hotels 2.5 * and up appear to have a shuttle so I am please with how that worked. 2.5* Ramada Suites Orlando MCO $32 2/4/11
  6. One more piece of Followup. I found a site that listed this for less:$63 per night and did manage to get HOTWIRE to make good on their Double -difference guarantee. Of course , the fact that $63, $64 and $65 rates are floating around in abundance for this property really has me concernd. Plus there are reviews that allege that the posted photos really are not of the GRANT PLAZA at all. HOTWIRE claims that they evaluated the 2 star rating as recently as yesterday (12/25). I have asked for them to provide the details of this evaluation. I have also asked them about their policy should these pictures turn out to be fraudulent. I want to avoid a disaster. Some of the reviews sound really bad, and some of the positive ones sound like they may have been posted by hotel employees. Any suggestions?
  7. Sorry I forgot the amenities listed: Business Center, Tennis Nearby I would be interested to know if anyone has any first hand experience with the GRANTPLAZA hotel.
  8. I was hoping this would be the Baldwin, the only other 2* listed to date for HOTWIRE. The rate of $64 was not much better than the current cancelable Internet Special for this hotel of $65 per night. Hopefully it does not turn out to be a hole in the wall. Rooms sizes appear to be limited to 2 twins or a single full size. It is in a great location, and other hotels in Union Square East are mostly 3 and four star with price tags of $180 and up.
  9. The dates of the Stay are Sun 7/18 - Tues 7/20. The cumbersome calendar is not in reference to the Calendar of Wins. It is the Calendar for starting the Hotwire or Priceline transacton. It is the link you want everyone to use to begin their bidding. It is cumbersome to use, but I will suffer through ti once in a while because I find the info you have here very valuable.
  10. This Holiday Inn Express doesn't appear to be reported either. I won the 2.5 star Holiday Inn Express in Aurora for $38/night. 2 day total $94.20 And yes, I used the PRICELINE link to book this stay. Even though the calendar feature here is cumbersome compared to the ones HOTWIRE and PRICELINE, etc use. I know you guys need to support this website and it does provide real value. It seems unfair to browbeat people who take the time to create logins and add info to your database, when many many others remain anonymous guests and don't even contribute, taking advantage of your website like the Little Red Hen's lazy friends.
  11. 6 nights @ $52 per night right between 2 events I am attending in St Louis That week. I knew that it was going to be the Crowne Plaze with the amenities listed (not 100% sure, but the prediction did turn out to be correct) Amenities: Restaurant, Pool, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Laundry The only 3.5 star in Downtown that lists a laundry.
  12. I got $79 4 Star Downtown Cleve Renaissance 5/7-5/9 . The room ws a bit small, but other than that the location and amenities were fabulous.
  13. 3* Hyatt North Columbus $36 - I was thrilled to get this in Columbus for this weekend. A very nice 3 star for less than a 1 star.
  14. I had seen those reviews, and reasoned that we will be getting in late. After an 8 hour drive, I will be able to sleep anywhere, knowing I have a much nicer 3 star for the next 2 nights. And we will be moving on early the next morning, so the ambiance of a nice hotel would be wasted. The advantage here is that I knew it was going to be the HOJO before I made my purchase, unlike HOTWIRE or PRICELINE.
  15. I had been trying to get my 1st night in to a 3 night stay in the NYC area at a lower price ($39 or less) to cut total costs. I had already been successful getting 2 nights near Newark airport for $60 (plus $15 parking). My early Hotwire probes were at $39 and I was trying to beat that. Now it looks like HOTWIRE doesn't have anything in Parsippany under $49 . Priceline bids were not getting me anything $39 or less. I started worrying that it was going to get worse not better. Then I found that there are several listings on eBay for hotel night in major destination for $25-$30, including Newark and JFK. You have to check for availability with the seller . You can not get multiple nights. So I ended up getting the Newark Howard Johnson for $25 plus a $15 parking fee.
  16. I just realized that I assumed that I wouldn't have to pay for parking. $8/day isn't much for parking with in/out privileges. But between that and paying for internet and no included breakfast of anykind, I realize I am going to be nickeled and dimed with other costs during my stay.
  17. I have been planning a trip to NYC to a concert in Uniondale and some sightseeing with my 15 year old and her friend. Needing to stay 3 nights, and with the help of Betterbidding and other websites, I avoided making some really bad decisions. Holland Motor Inn was going to be my cheap fall back at $109/night with AAA discount. I have been very successful with HOTWIRE in the past, but I wasn't getting anything interesting no matter how I searched. I finally decided on a strategy of staying in Parsippany the Friday night we arrive at around $40 and then staying somewhere nice and safe in NJ and drive to a PATH station and park for a modest fee. The Holland at $109 was what I was trying to beat with the convenience of waling to a PATH station. My strategy was also to stay Sat and Sun night, because it looked like I might get a better deal from places that target the business traveler. So I started out shamelessly bidding $47 for a 3 star in Jersey City / Newark. I was going to start at $55, but I thought , I am just starting. I got the news that my bid was rejected... no surprise...THEN.. a little HINT IN RED.. If I bid $13 more I might have a better chance, or something to that effect. Gee. I am being told to bid $60! I realized that I would be delighted with $60 and that it would more than make up for the extra hassle and parking near a train. Hilton Newark Airport $60.00 2 nights (7/26 - 7/28 Sat Sun) Subtotal: $120.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $27.51 Total Charges*: $147.51 I noticed someone else posted a winning bid for Hilton Newark Airport at $60 so that must be their current magic number.
